I purchased a used Mac mini server and can get past the startup screen for the setup process. There is a little spinning wheel in the lower left hand corner of the initial server setup screen.

I am a frequent poster at places like Slick Deals, but seems that they are pretty anti-Apple. If anyone sees any great deals on Mac Mini 8GB Memory upgrades.....could they post them? I want to upgrade my Mac Mini, but as a single working mom on a serious budget, I can't frivolously spend cash on the Mini.....it's bad enough that I bought it. View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2010 Mac mini connected to my TV for use primarily for Internet radio and video and I also recently bought a mid 2011 Mac mini to replace my 2007 iMac after its LCD panel went south. The 2011 system report shows 1333 MHz DDR3 memory whereas the 2010 shows 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. I am thinking to upgrade the 2011 from 4 GB to 8 GB and swap out the 2 GB in the 2010 for the 4 GB from the 2011. Will the 1333 MHz DDR3 memory from the 2011 work in the 2010?

I've just ordered an i5 Mac Mini and while it's destined to be used as a media-centre/ streamer connected to my TV via HDMI, initially I want to hook it up to the display on my 2011 iMac. Can one of you clever bods point me in the direction of what cable I need, and also what do I need to do to the iMac to make it behave as just a monitor? I play mostly WoW, LoL, Civ, some FPS, Diablo 3- now that it's out, and a handful of others... I was planning on upgrading my HDD to 1TB and possibly doing a raid configuration for speed, as well as upgrading to 8MB ram. I realize the graphics card is going to be my biggest downfall- and to my understanding, not upgradable. Â I guess my question is, Is the memory and HDD upgrades viable even though I probably won't be able to do anything with my graphics?Â

I am after some advice re the matching of IMac Mini spec to Aperture2. According to Aperture 2 specs, the new IMac Mini with 4GB/320GB is sufficient but it does not mention the 'NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 128MB or 256MB of DDR3' as an acceptable graphics card. Any advice from Aperture 2 users on this and if the proposed Mini spec is sufficient. I am an amateur photograher, on a limited budget, and I process mostly RAW photos. Do I need to go to IMac 2.6/2.9 to get realistic processing power?

I'm looking to upgrade my Mac mini's ram and to an ssd. Currently I've used up to 250 gb on my HDD. The ram upgrade is easy, 8GB. But the SSD is another thing. Money isn't too big of an issue. I would like plenty of storage. For best performance should I get a 500gb ssd(yea I know over $1000) or a smaller SSD, say 80gb as boot disk and use external HDD for more storage. And is there any places I can get my HDD replaced for cheap?

I haven't looked at the specs on the Mac Minis and iMacs in awhile, but I dont remember them having the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 M graphics last time I looked. I just looked at the Apple store and both the mini and iMac have this chipset.

I thinking of buying the new mac mini 2GHz �499 model (which I can get student discount), and carry out the upgrades myself to save myself some money. I was thinking of getting a imac, but as you all no the new base rate model is a lot more expensive than previous models, and maybe over my budget.
I would upgrade the hardrive to a 320GB western digital (cost �55), upgrade the memory to 4GB (cost �52).

Couple of questions about this setup:
1) Will this monitor be better quality than the new 20" imac screen?
2) I work on cs3 to do some freelance in my spare time at weekends - indesign, editing in photoshop, and e.g. vector logos in illustrator etc to design flyers, banners etc. I will need all the cs3 programs open along with itunes and neoffice. Would this upgraded mini run well on it with this kind of multi tasking? I don't do any 3D editing.
3) Will the minus 0.66Ghz less processor compared to the new imac be that noticeable for the work I do?
4) The pros beat the cons as far as I can see -
This mini setup can save me �180 over the basic new imac.
Gives me a bigger screen, + maybe better.
2GB more memory.
Can use the 120GB replaced hard drive as a new external with a caddy
It's Lacking 0.66GHz in processor speed compared to the imac
I know they were giving free upgrades to Lion on refurbished units purchased from apple. I just bought a mac mini with snow leopard and see no mention of a free upgrade.

I am wondering how much memory I can upgrade with my MacBook Pro Late 2011. I went on Apple.com and they only offer up to 8GB of Ram for my model when I looked around and saw that on OWC ( MacSales.com) which is a very excellent reliable source for all your Apple Products. After installing 2 Corsair 4GB memory sticks (for a total of 12GB) my less than a year old IMac (mid-2011) started crashing like crazy. Everything indicated that they were installed properly, ie, About this Mac, Activity Monitor, etc...
As soon as I opened up any application or even a single browser window--CRASH.
I run parallels a fair bit for research and my MBP is pretty slow. Took it to genius and he said to get a memory upgrade to 8GB. However, I'm reading everywhere that it can handle 16GB and the Crucial says it is compatible (only £100 ish for this so seems a pretty good deal). All well and good- but will this invalidate Apple care as the max Apple state it can handle is 8GB? Or.....is 8GB going to be enough anyway?Â

computer is connected to cable modem & router. There are 2 other computers on the same router, they other computer connect fine. I have swapped the working connections with the mac mini in question. Restarts don't always correct the problem. cleared safari history, reset cache, repaired permissions,etc. Computer will work for anywhere between 5 minutes to 1 hour, then lose the internet connection. Using same computer to manage iphone4s (if that matters)

Then I tried the cmd+alt+r way, which didn't work either. I cannot get the Internet Recovery to work either. I'm using a bluetooth keyboard, which I think could be part of the problem (?). Another thing: when I try to erase my disk (via Applications-Utilities-Disk Utilities) I can't do so (my display settings have somehow become messed up; that's the reason in the first place to restore my mac mini. I'm further connected to a wireless network.
