MacBook Pro :: Startup Screen With Loading Bar Then Unexpected Shutdown

Jun 25, 2014

I was watching Netflix two days ago when all of a sudden the image froze (the audio continued). I figured my internet was slow or something and waited a little for the image to keep moving, but nothing happened only the audio kept going. I tried to press esc to exit full screen mode, but nothing happened, I pressed more keys, still no reaction, even the audio and screen brightness keys didn't work. So I held the power button to do a force shut down.

After a couple of minutes, I pressed the power button again, startup sound played, then the white screen with the apple logo and loading gear appeared together with a grey loading bar. I figured that meant it had to repair something and waited. After two minutes it just shut off. I decided to leave it closed for the night. The exact same thing happened last night and tonight as well.

I have a MacBook Pro, I think its from 2010, with iOS Maverick installed. I also have MacKeeper on there, which I just read is apparently not a good thing. I tried finding an answer in the discussion forums, but I could only find that you should do a safe boot, which is supposed to make the grey loading bar appear, but that already showed up before and even when I tried holding down the shift key, the same thing happened.

MacBook Pro :: Blue Screen Appears On Startup And At Shutdown

Feb 19, 2012

A few months ago, I bought a macbook pro and it was doing fine. But recently, every time it starts, a blue screen appears for a split second then it goes to log- in. Then, every time I shutdown, it will also show up for a split second then shutdown. It doesn't affect the computer but I'm just wondering how to stop it.

My iMac is the latest model, however when I try to shut it down I get a grey screen with the apple loading spiral and it doesn't shutdown. I have version 10.7.4 OSX Lion, all updates have been downloaded. I have resorted to leaving it on. I do not want to hard shutdown because this could damage the system, my old iMac broke after the hard drive was damaged with the same style of issue.

The accounts work fine until I log off the user with "cmd+shift+q". Every second or third logoff the MBP reboots with an error. Where can I find the log files or crash reports to solve the problem?

MacBook Pro :: Startup Screen With Apple Logo And Grey Loading Bar Then Unexpectedly Shuts Down

Jun 26, 2014

I have a MacBook Pro from 2010 I believe with iOS Maverick installed. (MacKeeper is also on there, which I just found out is apparently malware)

So three days ago I was watching Netflix, the image froze, but the audio kept going. Figured my internet was slow, so I waited a little, nothing happened. pressed escape to leave the full screen mode, but nothing happened. None of the keys would do anything, not even the sound or brightness keys. So I did a force shut down by holding down the power button.

I waited a little, then decided to turn it back on. Start up sound played, white screen with grey apple logo and loading gear appeared together with a grey loading bar. I figured that this meant it had to repair something. But after about a minute or two it just went to a black screen/ shut down. I left it off for a day, tried it again, same thing. Next day I tried booting it up while holding the shift key to do the safe boot (I knew it wouldn't work since I already had the grey loading bar anyways), same thing happened.

MacBook :: Won't Shutdown / Restart / Sleep Or Startup Properly

May 6, 2010

During start up I get the apple logo and everything boots although it takes forever, the apple logo goes away screen goes blue, and sometimes it loads to the login screen about 10 mins later, and sometimes it just sits there. - During restart, it shuts down makes all the appropriate sounds, screen goes dark, and all you hear is a residual humming from the inside under the keyboard, and then never restarts. (You have to force shutdown) - Same story as above with both shutdown, and sleep.

The only way to get it to load successfully is in safe mode, but even then it still wont do the above problem correctly, it just at least starts.

- Resetting the PRAM, Holding power button for 5 seconds until repeating flashes, I've tried reinstalling snow leopard 5 times, I've checked for updates, I've repaired disk permissions, I've repaired the disk, I've even tried stepping the OSX back down to 10.3(The original operating software for this MB)

MacBook Pro :: Showing Apple Logo And Progress Bar On Startup Then Shutdown

Feb 19, 2012

I forgot to switch on the power socket at the wall so when I came back it had powered off. When I switched it back on it showed the last screen visible before sleep mode kicked in and then showed the apple logo with a progress bar underneath. The progress bar starts to move slowly but after about a minute starts again. It slowly starts to move again but stops after about two minutes and the macbook powers off.

Mac Pro :: Screen Darken - Unexpected Shut Down

Mar 19, 2009

I have a refurb 2008 model Mac Pro, 2.8gHz quad that I bought only in January, and ever since it keeps crashing. I'll just be doing day to day tasks which don't strain the computer in any way, and the screen will darken and a message will pop up saying something to the effect of "You Mac Pro must be restarted, please hold down the power button for 5 seconds". This was an annoyance before but I just lost a couple of hours of Pro Tools work so now I'm really angry at it, I never have these problems with my Macbook Pro so I know its not a normal thing. The error report says this:

OS X :: Imac G5 Startup / Shutdown

Dec 3, 2009

It's been having trouble shutting down when it's gone unused. Then it won't turn on unless I turn the surge protector off and back on. (I thought it was tied to my backup drive being on, but now I just turn it on when I need it) Even then it doesn't start up automatically, I have to push it a few times. Just now when I held down the start up button it made a loud whooshing sound, started up, maintained the sound for awhile and then normal but I still hear it running louder than usual. I dread it may not start up again one of these times. Side issue, maybe unrelated but firefox is driving me crazy with proxy issues, aol mail issues, and just now I couldn't post in this forum it was "forbidden" when I hit submit. so I used Safari instead and found my post was actually posted.

PowerPC :: Screen Not Working Fine At Startup / Screen Stays Black On Startup

Apr 5, 2007

My brother's iBook G4 (I think it's a 2003 model) has a problem with the screen. When the computer is turned on, the screen stays black, although the backlight is on (the apple glows). Sometimes, on start up, the screen works normally for a random amount of time before going fuzzy and then black again.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it likely to be a problem with the hardware in the actual computer, or just the screen? Or is it a software thing?

OS X :: Lots Of Text At Startup And Shutdown?

What exactly is it and how do I stop it from happening ever?

Mac Pro :: Randomly Freezes At Startup And Shutdown

Jun 23, 2014

I have got a problem with my brand new Mac Pro. It randomly freezes at start-up and shutdown. I sometimes am able to work around the problem by turning on the monitors last or switching them off first but it does not always work and is a pain anyway. While waiting for Apple or another manufacturer to release a decently priced 4k display, I am using 2 HP 24' monitors inherited from my previous desktop.

One is connected via an HDMI cable (HP2405) and the other via a thunderbolt to HDMI cable with a DVI adapter (HP2448).Would I be better of using a Thunderbolt connection for both displays ? Or any other connection?

MacBook Pro :: Startup Screen Is Zoomed In On Startup?

Jun 19, 2012

6 month old MBP 15", been running 100% fine, plugged it into a projector the other day and it auto changed the screen resolution. I unplugged the device, went into settings and changed my screen resolution back to it's factory size as well as command & the minus key to make sure I wasn't zoomed in on anything.

I then did a system update for the following; Airport utility, Safari, Ricoh Printer, Digital Camera Raw, java, Itunes.

Restarted the computer as the updates had finished, then when turning back on the loading screen with the grey background, apple symbol and rotating loading symbol was zoomed in as much as the resolution would allow. So i restarted a couple more times, still the same thing - every time i turn the computer on the loading screen is massivly zoomed in, once it's done loading and moves to the log in screen it is fine.

I've tried plugging into the projecter again and editing my settings, that did nothing. It's like because i updated while the settings where wonky it's saved it somehow?

MacBook :: Stuck At Shutdown Screen

Jun 11, 2012

I just installed and updated some new software on our MacBook, and restarted it to enable all of the features.  However, when I restarted it, the desktop picture showed up with the loading icon at the bottom.  I believe this is what it does to prepare the MacBook for reboot after new software has been installed, but it has been stuck in this mode for about 25 minutes.

Is this normal for a MacBook to do for some software?  And should I just wait it out or should I hold down the power button to force shutdown?

In case it is important, the software I installed is Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition.

MacBook Pro :: Its Shutdown Quickly And There Is A White Screen Now

Jun 2, 2012

I went to a website yesterday, one that I go to every day, more than once. I was using Safari and saw a warning posted from the site owner about malware. It read this was happening with Chrome and Firefox. Everything was fine until I went back there maybe 15 minutes later and I got that warning page that he was talking about and now it was on Safari. You could click "ignore" or "continue" I think. I'm not sure cuz I don't remember. I thought it best to click out of the window. I opened a new window and a couple of weird things happened.  I was scrolling down the the "page down" key and it would not stop. Then the screen started slowly moving up to the top left and disappearing in the process. It was weird. I hit Safari and and it came back.  Then it seemed ok. I was as the library cuz I have no internet at home now. Then I went home and a little while later I was watching a download and all of a sudden it shut down quickly and the screen went white. The mouse was not "lit up", and I freaked - nothing worked - just a white screen. I did not know what was going on.

All I could think of to do was hold down the power button to turn it off. And I was afraid to do that - that it may never start up again. This morning I started it back up and the same thing happened. The start up sound lasted only a few seconds and then it was the white screen again. I looked at the battery underneath and all the battery lights were lit AND the power cord was plugged in. The light on the far left was blinking. I unplugged the power cord and the lights went off and then pushed in the button on the battery and all the lights went on for a few seconds like they are supposed to and then went off. My macbookpro was working fine and now it's not. It does not work at all. I'm using an older iBook and am at a local cafe wifi spot.

Just recently I've been getting messages that my startup disk is full and I have to delete stuff. Okay I understand I was riding on the edge of my disk space so I guess I will have to delete stuff. However after restarting my computer all I get is an empty screen and a default blue wallpaper. Finder and my Dock do not load. I am only able to access that top menu bar because Skype gives an error message when the computer starts up. I was able to start firefox from the apple menu/ recent applications. I am completely lost. Also it seems like cache files for any programs I run have been dumped.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Restart/shutdown Black Screen & No Keyboard Backlight

Mar 30, 2012

My 2009 MBP would have problems shutting down or restarting. On a shutdown, it would appear to off, black screen and no lights, but if you tried pressing the power button nothing happened. I had to hold the power button to turn it completely, then press it again to startup.Restarts had the same behaviour, it would get to a black screen and I would have to hold the power button and then press it again to startup.I ended up taking this MBP back for another problem, and they replaced it with a 2011 MBP (since I had recurring logic board that failed a few times).Anyway, I swapped the SSD from my old mac into the new one, and I have the exact same behaviour!!Seems to be some corrupt settings or something. So I booted from a Mac installation disc, wiped my hard drive and reinstalled the OS, then I restored from Time Machine, and unticked the option to restore settings.I want to also add, that my backlit keyboard isn't working either.I tried resetting the SMC, but the power light on my charger didn't cycle orange/green, so I'm not sure if it worked. I tried multiple time, following Apple instructions.I also reset the PRAM, which did work.

MacBook Pro :: Getting Blue / Black Or Gray Screen And Force Shutdown

Aug 29, 2014

Macbook Pro 15 inch

OS X 10.9.4

2.4 GHz Intel Cor i7

4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

I have had my macbook pro for just over 2 years. About a week ago it started randomly giving me a blue striped, grey, or black screen. The fan pins up and won't stop and either the laptop shuts itself off or I have to force it off. When it restarts it is very slow and sometimes the fan kicks on and won't stop and the screen just stays white after the initial apple and spinning wheel screen, so I have force shut it down and try again. Other times it eventually loads and lets me in but everything responds slowly and takes some time to open.

MacBook Pro :: Will Not Start After Shutdown - Purple Vertical Lines Flickering On Screen

Jun 3, 2012

I was sitting with my MacBook Pro, when out of no where, purple vertical lines began flickering on the screen. I tried getting them to stop, then eventually just shut down my laptop. When I went to power it up again, it first popped up with the white apple screen and chime, then a gray screen dropped down with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.".

I tried the Power button option first, but the computer does not come back on. When I press the Power button again, it does the same thing all over again. I do not know where the "Restart button" is, so I haven tried that. I have also tried pulling the battery and restarting, restarting in safe mode by holding the shift key at start up, and trying control-r and control-s functions. None of which worked.
