Sep 3, 2014Starting abnormally, Like when I start my MacBook pro which is almost new. A bar runs on the white screen and then when it reached half way system shut down. Any way to reset my computer.
Also, when I am going to option, the system doesn't allow me by saying hard disk is locked.

Sep 1, 2009I started getting the little 'x' on the battery symbol a couple of weeks ago and the computer would just shut off randomly. Now it's happening WAY more since I installed the latest updates. And for some reason, when everything is working, I can see all sites except gmail, which will not load no matter what (my most important site). What gives?

Jun 26, 2014I have a MacBook Pro from 2010 I believe with iOS Maverick installed. (MacKeeper is also on there, which I just found out is apparently malware)
So three days ago I was watching Netflix, the image froze, but the audio kept going. Figured my internet was slow, so I waited a little, nothing happened. pressed escape to leave the full screen mode, but nothing happened. None of the keys would do anything, not even the sound or brightness keys. So I did a force shut down by holding down the power button.
I waited a little, then decided to turn it back on. Start up sound played, white screen with grey apple logo and loading gear appeared together with a grey loading bar. I figured that this meant it had to repair something. But after about a minute or two it just went to a black screen/ shut down. I left it off for a day, tried it again, same thing. Next day I tried booting it up while holding the shift key to do the safe boot (I knew it wouldn't work since I already had the grey loading bar anyways), same thing happened.

Jul 5, 2012I have a late 2010 MacBook Air.Unfortunately, I'm in a country without an Apple store or any kind of official Apple support (no phone number to call).
2 days ago, I plugged in a little USB modem device (wireless is rare here) and my laptop shut down suddenly. It refused to restart at all until I did an SMC reset and then it was working fine (including with the USB modem plugged in).
However, the next day, the same shut-down occurred (when I plugged in the modem again) and now SMC reset is not doing anything. I've held down the start button for a very long time and there aren't any signs of life. The light on the charger shows that it is charging when I plug it in.

Jul 7, 2009I have a mac mini intel and I was in the middle of working with my blogs, then there was an annoying spinning wheel of death, so normally, I would hold the power button for few button to restart and I did. then when the desktop was loading, everything was back to the "new" desktop with alot of stuffs missing, so I restarted it again using the apple menu, then the startup screen took so long and out of nowhere, it shutted down by itself. I tried to power it on again and again, unplugged the cords, still didn't work.

They told me i can still use it on the power cord. However when i started it up the screen has a spinning wheel and a loading bar underneath the apple logo, which it never had before, and when the bar is 1/3 done the computer just shuts down every single time at the exact same place.

Mar 10, 2012Fairly new MacBook Pro with OXLion. When I try to turn on the computer, the startup noise and screen appear (grey loading screenwith apple icon). A loading bar at the bottom of the screen fills about a third up, then the computer shuts down again.

Jun 28, 2012I have two external hard drives attached to my MacBook Pro (running Lion) using a powered USB hub. What is the best procedure to use when shutting down the computer at the end of the night, and when turning it on the next morning. I didn't turn the computer off much when I used Snow Leopard so I can't really say that it has something to do with Lion, but I'm using Lion now and I am shutting down every night. Every morning when I turn the computer on the external hard drives don't load. I have to disconnect all the wires from the hub then first reconnect the hub to the computer, next the power to the hub, then the hard drives one at a time as they load. I would like to turn the computer on and have the external hard drives load automatically.

Dec 7, 2014Today something strange happened to my macbook pro. I turned it on, and when I went to check for updates the new update was available, so I clicked it.
Once it completed at the app store, it restarted and a whire screen with the Apple logo appeared and a bar.
Literally the bar only completes like 25% of its shading and then it shuts off.

Nov 21, 2007I've got a strange issue with my PowerMac dual 1.8GhZ and I can't figure out where it's coming from.Last Saturday I experienced a Kernell Panic while using Safari and the Dictionary (MacOS 10.5.1).Since then, whenever I try to start my computer, it shuts itself down while the grey screen with the Apple logo is on screen. However, this isn't always the case:I can use my computer 'normally' if I press the option key at start-up and manually choose my startup disk.
I can boot from a Panther or Tiger installation disk, but not Leopard.If I try the hardware test the computer shuts itself down in the middle of the test.TechTool works and didn't find any issues with my computer. Nor did Disk Utility.I tried to erase both my internal hard-drives and do a clean install of Tiger, but the problem is still there (I have to press option at startup).I tried to reset the PRAM and Cuda/PMA. Doesn't resolve the issue.When I tick 'Restart automatically after power failure' in Energy Saver my Mac will indeed restart, meaning it thinks there was a power failure.Any idea what it might be? And why it only happens in certain situations?Do you think it's a hardware or a software issue?

Jan 25, 2010This is a new problem, started immediately after moving the computer gently a foot to the left...
When computer goes to sleep it shuts down.
Then when I press the power button I hear the mechanical click but it doesn't power back up.
Then if I unplug and re-plug it'll start back up. Happens every time like this.
I've, reseated the RAM chips, repaired permissions and reset SDC (SMC? whatever you call it when you hold the power button in for five seconds after unplugging).

Feb 25, 2008My comp. has worked perfectly, Then I installed some updates, Itunes i think? And the comp. Shut down, and when it restarts it works for a min or two, then freezes, and i get the beach ball, that just spins around and around forever.
if I don't try to open anything, or do anything when i restart it, it will just shut down, and restart, then when it comes to the Grey screen with the apple and the little circle below it, the circle looks all pixilated, and just freezes
that is the version its on (Taken two days ago, and sent to a buddy for other reasons completely)

Feb 1, 2009This has been a great computer - bought new in 2004. Recently started to click "off" as it was just powering up. I thought there was a bug - so did a clean and install for OS X - but still does it. The only way to start computer is to hold the Options & Alt key and P and R key at start up until I hear 6 dinging noises of start up (why six is the magic number I don't know. But it is the only combo that works!). Once it is up and running no problems.

Aug 13, 2009My Mac attempts to start up and automatically shuts down on it's own. It continues to start and stop for several minutes and finally boots up. Once it's up it works OK. I've had it in to the Mac store and they tell me it's probably the power supply, but after leaving it on all weekend it seemed to work OK so they didn't do anything. After I brought it home it is still acting in the same way. It's only on trying to start up that it cycles through the start - stop action. Once I turn it off it's the same problem on trying to start again. Does this sound like a power supply problem?

Apr 18, 2008My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.
When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

However, it loads at startup, and I have no idea how to prevent it from doing so. There's no option to configure it not to, I have tried looking for an entry in StartupItems and Login Items of my Accounts preferences. It is located in the Preferences Pane, its not really a standalone program.

Oct 25, 2009So, when using bootcamp today I was installing Republic commando for PC. While it loaded, it froze. So I turned it off and back on, but the windows parition wouldn't start up while loading. Neither did mac, unless I used the safe boot. It wouldn't detect my mouse, and I had to replug it. And finally, I discovered my sound didn't work. It shows that its at top volume, and its locked, with a transparent volume icon. So I can't listen to anything, use my windows parition, and I have to use safe boot (which takes about five minutes) to start up my mac parition. Is there any way to fix this?
