I have just bought a new macbook pro, my Macpro hd is the same 10.7.4, but, it has all the apps, firewall and mail etc that I would like on my macbook pro. Is there a way to just copy my macpro hd onto my macbook pro? Other than migration

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm THIS close to putting an SSD in my optical bay, and using it for the OS and applications, and will leave all of my data on my HDD. The problem is that my HDD is 600Gb that's about 400Gb full, and I'm looking at a 128 or even 256Gb SSD. Since the SSD is smaller than the HDD, I can't just do a full recovery to the SSD then move data files to the HDD.
My question is, what is the right way to migrate all of the OS files and applications to a different drive, while leaving everything else on the HDD?

My MPB's sound just randomly stopped working today. The speaker icon on the top toolbar is grayed/faded (as if not turned on) but the sound is all the way up. I can't move the sound up or down, and when I press a sound button, there is an x under the speaker.
I have tried restarting and I made sure that the preferences were on the correct output setting.
I have an plastic (white) Mac Book with a 500gb hd and a pre-uni-body Mac Book Pro with just a 250gb hd. because of the large number of apps and settings I do not want to start from scratch and called Apple and was told I could just take the hard drive out of the Mac Book and place it in the Mac Book Pro without issue. I would have to run some updates but it would work (and the software on it) would work just fine.
Does this sound strange to you.
I have considered buying a 750gb Western Digital drive and starting from scratch and then migrating but I really want to know what you think.
On the Western Digital drive. It's 12.5mm and I know th drive in the Mac Book Pro is 9.5. I have read of user installing this drive without issue. Has anybody here tried this. (the drive is a WD7500KEVT WD Scorpio Blue)
Ok, so I want my menubar to have what I want in the right order. In this case that is not working. I read about the command click thing but that only works on my defualt menulets. I can't move around my added menulets.

I have always used FireWire Target Disk Mode to transfer files between Macs. My old MacBook has FireWire 400 my new MacBook does not. How can I connect these 2 computers together directly to easily transfer files? Maybe a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter on the new MacBook would do the job?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running out of space on my Unibody MBP (June 2009 version). I just bought an OWC 120gb SSD, with the intention of putting it where my disk drive is, using their data doubler (which makes it fit).
I want to use the SSD as my startup disk, but have heard that if you use the drive which is connected where the old disk drive used to be as the start up disk, there are problems with the computer waking from sleep, unless you turn off hibernation.
So instead, I want to move my current hard drive to the disk drive slot, and put the SSD in the main slot.
If I were to do this, would I need to do any "extra" configuring besides setting the SSD as my startup disk?
After moving my harddrive to the disk drive slot, will it boot up normally, and then I can just add the SSD?
I just bought a used macbook pro, 15" 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, and I have previously been using a 13" macbook, on which I recently upgraded the hard drive. I'd like to pop that hard drive in my new MBP, since it is bigger, and has all my data on it, but I'm not sure if this is a safe thing to do - if there are hardware specific aspects of the OSX environment that will be unhappy in a new machine. Currently, I have a 160GB Intel G2 SSD in my 15" MBP. When Intel releases the 320GB version soon, the 160GB will move to my wife's 13" MBP.
Except for the few titles, the software we use are identical (The software we have is all "multiple copy" versions).
To avoid reinstalling Snow Leopard and the programs again, I would like to just install the SSD to the 13" MBP and make some changes (e.g., changing accounts in Mail, loading different set of Firefox bookmarks, etc etc). It seems like the name and the password of the Admin account can be changed under "user accounts" as well.
How can I move the time and date to the origin? As the Time and date suppose to be on the right and eventually it moved to middle as shown above for the picture. Any ideas ?

When i updated from Lion to Mountain Lion I had my applications in two separate folders on the same Hardisk. One for my apps from Apple, and one for my downloaded apps.
