I recently moved my music library to an external library by changing the pathway in Edit/Preferences/Advanced and then consolidating the library. Everything worked for a while but now when I open itunes it is not able to find all the files. Bizarrely for a lot of albums it can find one or two of the songs but the rest all get the "Unable to locate original music file" error message. The music is all there on the hard drive but I don't want to have to manually locate each one. Does anyone know what is causing this or have a script to locate the rest of the music automatically?

its 1000s of songs . Originally I used the time machine as a networked drive but it can cause the songs to pause so I'm thinking it would be better to have the songs on the internal imac drive
how can I move the songs so I can re-open iTunes and the playlists (with plays in the 100s) find the song in the new place?
utilizing memory on iMac. 320gb almost used (7gb left). Think this is due to extensive iTunes music library. How can I move this to an external drive to free up memory on iMac?

I need more space on my hd. A lot of space is being taken up by family photos in iPhoto. How do I move those photos to an external hd to free up space on the the Macbook?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust to let everybody know, I found a pretty straightforward way to do this without having to mess with every single app's preferences. I have a 13 mbp and I replaced the HDD with an intel SSD. The original HDD went into the optibay instead of the superdrive. At first I just moved my whole home folder to the HDD, so that iTunes, iPhoto and everything else would have worked on there not filling up the SSD with unnecessary stuff. But then I felt like my HDD was spinning most of the time and I read that, as I thought, it is better to leave the ~/Library folder on the SSD to avoid this, since every running app basically reads and writes to this folder all the time. So here's what I did:
1) I moved the home folder back to the SSD, copying my ~/Library folder from the HDD in there (this is its default location so you don't have to do anything if you never changed it.
I just upgraded my SSD from 256GB to 1TB and plan to move all the iPhoto library in the external HD to SSD. I use iPhoto '09 ver 8.1.2.

If you want to do modify or upgrade a Macbook you Should first back up your music, documents, photos etc to an external hard drive. That much I did know. And lucky for me because a few later I spilt wine on the keyboard. (Computers are not wine oriented). Lucky for me it was saved by a Mac expert. The iTunes library which also includes non-Apple purchases is sitting in an external LaCie 1tb Rugged external hard drive. And what I want to do is transfer/import the iTune library Back into the Macbook. Sure it probably sounds easy to a vetran computer person or even to someone who grew up with computers but to me it's like speaking Cantonese.

I would like to have all of my music and pictures available to me on my 64 GB iPad but I can no longer keep these growing libraries of music and pictures on the hard drive of my MacBook Air because I've run out of space. External HardDrives are an option, but will it allow me to sync and keep the current data on my iPad along with future music and pictures? Are there any other alternatives that are much more ideal for this situation?

How do I transfer my I Tunes Music Library from my Old I Mac to my new Mac Book Pro? I also have an Ipod and I pod Touch that are connected to my Library on the old I Mac.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.2), The I Mac is snow leopard osx 10.6.
- I pasted a folder (named mymusic) full of music files (mp3) and movie files, to my Mac Book Pro (MBP).
- I opened iTunes for the fiirst time and asked iTunes to search for media files and orgnaized the library with "Reorganized files int the folder iTunes Media".
- So Now I have two folders containig the same files. One is in the iTunes Media Folder, and the other one is the original folder (mymusic).Â
Can I delete the original 'mymusic' folder? If I delete mymusic folder, will all my music remains safe in the iTunes Media folder? If Yes, then what about the artwork (album cover image)? I put album covers images in mymusic folder. If I delete the folder, will the cover image stays safely in iTunes Media folder?Â

I'm a first time user for Mac and I've never ever had a laptop with a 256GB storage. So here are some of my concerns:
Musics
Do I have to sacrifice my music library?
What if I transfer my musics to the external storage and download it into Itunes?
Does it mean I have to connect the external storage everytime I connect my Ipod?
Or I can only choose a certain amount of songs to put in?.
Using migration assistant (via ethernet) to transfer files, some apps, and most importantly my itunes music library. Old system is 2010 MacBook with SL, new MBA with Lion. All transferred that I wanted except no itunes library. Support help says (after long discussion and level up person got involved) if I have ripped music from CDs library will not transfer using migration assistant.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm just got my new iMac and started moving my iTunes library from my PC to Mac.
This is how I did it.
My iTunes library is already organised in my PC, i.e. all music in the iTunes folder.
So I just copied the my entire iTunes folder onto an external hard drive and then to my mac.
Then I use the "add to library" function on itunes so my mac can organise all my music.
The "keep itunes music folder organised" and "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library" check boxes are ticked on both my PC and Mac.
I look at my itunes library on my mac. Everything is good with artists and albums and song names looking good and organised. My playlists and other data is missing - no big deal, since I can make new playlists (BUT if anyone can tell me how I can get my old playlists and data on to Mac iTunes that would be great). However, the biggest problem is that all the .wav files have lost their artist and album names! How can I get these back?
My problem-
I've Mroogled, googled, and searched high and low for an answer- and i could only find old info (itunes 7!). Is there a way to move my library (itunes 9.0.3) over to PC (Win 7) without losing anything? I have lots of playlists I would love to keep as well as play counts.
*itunes manages and adds songs to my library when i add a song~*
my roommate got a new PC and she would like to know what is the best way to move the iTunes library to the new PC. She was on XP and now is on Vista. (didn't listen to me when I said mac) She ripped some of her cd's but mainly bought stuff from the store itself. There are few she got in mp3 form already but not much. So, anyone knows how to transfer this to the new computer and have the library, playlists etc the same?

I just upgraded from a iPhone 5 to 5S. I upgraded the storage and am trying to move all my songs from my iTunes library on my mac to my phone. When I go to play them on my phone, they're all in there, but have the cloud w/ the down arrow and won't play. I try to download them, but it says my iTunes match is expired. I have them stored on my computer, have tried syncing all, checked all the individual songs, albums, and playlists, and tried dragging them over.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my iTunes library to an external HD in order to free up space in my computer. Unfortunately, that HD is unreliable, so I'm moving things to a new HD. The catch is that I discovered that iTunes has been syncing music to the unreliable external HD but syncing iPhone apps to a separate iTunes library on my computer that I didn't know about until today. How do I get the apps into the external HD's library (so that I can then move it all to the new HD)?Â
I tried consolidation - apparently that only works in regard to music, movies, books and other media, because it didn't move a single app.

I'm about to get a new iMac. My old G5 iMac is 5 years old now and showing it's age. I understand you are promted when you first turn on your new mac if you want to transfer any data from your old computer. So I assume this includes all the music I keep on my G5 imac's iTunes? I also plan to get a new ipod touch(the one with the camera) when they come out, and I want to transfer the music I had on my old one onto my new one.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhenever i'm in finder and i double-click on a song to play it, when itunes opens the song it removes it from the folder it's in and puts it in a new one called music...this is getting VERY frustrating, as i have all my music neatly organized the way i want it...how can i get itunes to stop this? other than that, i'm very happy with my macbook pro, and definitely glad i switched over from pc...but this is an absolute killer
