I am running out of space on my Unibody MBP (June 2009 version). I just bought an OWC 120gb SSD, with the intention of putting it where my disk drive is, using their data doubler (which makes it fit).
I want to use the SSD as my startup disk, but have heard that if you use the drive which is connected where the old disk drive used to be as the start up disk, there are problems with the computer waking from sleep, unless you turn off hibernation.
So instead, I want to move my current hard drive to the disk drive slot, and put the SSD in the main slot.
If I were to do this, would I need to do any "extra" configuring besides setting the SSD as my startup disk?
After moving my harddrive to the disk drive slot, will it boot up normally, and then I can just add the SSD?
Currently, I have a 160GB Intel G2 SSD in my 15" MBP. When Intel releases the 320GB version soon, the 160GB will move to my wife's 13" MBP.
Except for the few titles, the software we use are identical (The software we have is all "multiple copy" versions).
To avoid reinstalling Snow Leopard and the programs again, I would like to just install the SSD to the 13" MBP and make some changes (e.g., changing accounts in Mail, loading different set of Firefox bookmarks, etc etc). It seems like the name and the password of the Admin account can be changed under "user accounts" as well.
I'm trying to move a 60 GB file from my external drive to my MacBook. I have 100 GB left on my MacBook. When I try moving the file to my MacBook, after over an hour of it "preparing to copy" 2 Million files, it tells me that there is not enough space. This is ******** because I have almost double the amount of space left on my HDD. How can I fix this problem?
View 12 Replies View Relatedjust bought a new hard drive from OWC 500 GB 7200rpm, want to install it in my 15in unibody macbook pro june 2009. Bought the kit that came w/ the inclosure so i can turn my old drive into an external.
Here's my question
is there a way i can move all my data to my new hard drive before putting it into the computer, so once its in its ready to go? I don't have the leopard disc w/ me. I left it at home and didn't bring it back to school w/ me.
I've got a MacBook Pro and a PowerBook 15" Al 1.67ghz.The hard drive in my PB has just gone bust, and I don't have the restore disks for OS X 10.5.Seeing as my MacBook Pro has 10.5, would it be possible to move (via CCC or the like) the OS X from my MacBook Pro onto the new hard drive I've just replaced in my PowerBook? If so, how would I do this? Is it possible to boot from an external hard drive on a PowerBook?By the way, just so you know, I have paid for both Mac OS X licenses.

When I import photos from my iPhone to iPhoto I created a folder for photos that I want to move to my external hard drive. I hooked up my external hard drive to my MacBook Pro and tried to copy and paste the pics from that folder to my external hard drive and its not letting me copy anything to the external hard drive and I have no idea why. How come I can't cut and paste to my external hard drive?

I recently got myself a MacBook Pro and I'm having problems transferring files from my old Windows XP based laptop. I downloaded the Windows Migration Assistant onto my old laptop but everytime I tried to run it I got various error messages telling me I needed to upgrade this and that. Now the laptop has decided to give in totally and won't switch on at all! I do have all my music etc backed up onto an external hard drive but when I connect it to my MacBook it just doesn't want to know, I assume as all the data on there is formatted as Windows.

I was recently anxious to buy a game from the Mac App Store, being 40 gigabytes in size. The only problem is my free space. Having a 128 GB SSD, I have 36 gigabytes not in use. If I was to download the app, and get the grayed-out icon appeared in Finder, could I simply drag that icon to my hard drive and let the download continue there, or would that potentially corrupt files/break the download?
I am using a Mid-2012 MacBook Air, running OSX Mavericks 10.9.3.
I have a Dual 1.8 G5 and my hard drive has started to make a clicking sound every now and then. I believe it may be on the verge of dying anyday. Since i have space to put in another internal hard drive i am planning to get a WD Black Caviar 1TB and put it in.
Now my question is how do i move all my application from the old internal drive to the new internal drive. From what i have researched it seems that using a enclosure is the way to go but all the info i have seen is referring to replacing the drive rather adding a new one.I would like to move everything to the new drive and make that a master. What is the best way to perform this task?
My iTunes library got too big so I moved it to my external hard drive and now that I have space for it on my macbook, I want to move it back but cant. It keeps stopping saying that it cant move certain files then it stops the transferring process altogether. I've tried moving it several times but it keeps failing on me. Anyone have an idea as to why it keeps stopping the transfer on me?
View 2 Replies View RelatedRight now I have an i5 MacBook Pro with a 320 GB hard drive. I want to move that hard drive to my Time Capsule via a USB enclosure and use a 60 GB OCZ SSD hard drive in my MacBook. Do you think this is a good idea speed-wise? Also, does anyone have any experience with using iTunes or viewing videos with a hard drive plugged into a Time Capsule that's a few rooms away? I'm probably only going to use the wireless hard drive to listen to music and maybe move files to it once in a while. Would that be too slow? I would unplug it from the Time Capsule and plug it into my Mac to transfer big files or install software that's on the external drive.

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 17 Inch with 750 GB of space on its hard drive. About a month and half ago I bought a 3 TB Time Capsule and I know that Time Capsule, together with Time Machine, basically takes periodic snapshots of your hard drive and will rearrange/clean/delete files on your hard drive. What I want to know is that since I'm about to run out of space on the internal hard drive can I move a good chunk of the data into the Time Capsule and free up that data on internal hard drive. Videos take up about 75% of my MacBook Pro's hard drive so video's are my biggest problem. If I can't do this with the Time Capsule I guess that's a con of the Time Capsule/Time Machine.

If you want to do modify or upgrade a Macbook you Should first back up your music, documents, photos etc to an external hard drive. That much I did know. And lucky for me because a few later I spilt wine on the keyboard. (Computers are not wine oriented). Lucky for me it was saved by a Mac expert. The iTunes library which also includes non-Apple purchases is sitting in an external LaCie 1tb Rugged external hard drive. And what I want to do is transfer/import the iTune library Back into the Macbook. Sure it probably sounds easy to a vetran computer person or even to someone who grew up with computers but to me it's like speaking Cantonese.

I currently have a 2007 Mac Pro (intel). I hope soon to buy one of the latest 2009 Mac Pros. My question is: Can I move my existing system drive (10.6.2) to my new mac? Will the 2009 Mac Pro boot from it? I know this would not work on a windows machine as chip specific drivers get added at install time, but I was hoping I could get away with it with a Mac.
