My iMac is networked via ethernet.
My MBAir is networked via wireless.
I move files back and forth between the two.
Is there an advantage to using a Thunderbolt cable between the two?

If you want to do modify or upgrade a Macbook you Should first back up your music, documents, photos etc to an external hard drive. That much I did know. And lucky for me because a few later I spilt wine on the keyboard. (Computers are not wine oriented). Lucky for me it was saved by a Mac expert. The iTunes library which also includes non-Apple purchases is sitting in an external LaCie 1tb Rugged external hard drive. And what I want to do is transfer/import the iTune library Back into the Macbook. Sure it probably sounds easy to a vetran computer person or even to someone who grew up with computers but to me it's like speaking Cantonese.

so i installed windows 7 on bootcamp, i noticed that the keyboard backlight keys to adjust the keyboard backlight arent working. then i switched over to the mac os, and it also stopped working there!
whenever i press the keys, the transparent box shows up but the bars do not move, it is currently off, and it also has that crossed out circle symbol.
Microsoft files (e.g. excel) when forwarded as attachments and received by MacBook Winmail, get converted to winmail.dat files. However, MS Office products cannot open these winmail.dat files. Does anyone have a solution for this "bug"?

When i updated from Lion to Mountain Lion I had my applications in two separate folders on the same Hardisk. One for my apps from Apple, and one for my downloaded apps. Now I want to move my downloaded apps back into the original application folder, but they just copies instead. Earlier i have just CMD dragged the application, but now, in mountain lion, this seems not to work anymore.

I used a command in Terminal (can't remember what it was - I found it on these forums) to move the tabs in Safari 4 back to where they've been in previous versions. But I've decided I want to try the tabs on top for a while. How do I do that? I thought uninstalling and reinstalling Safari would be enough, but it wasn't.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my Mac HD's private folder to the trash not knowing that it stores thousands of crucial UNIX folders (one of which that stores the admin password). I haven't yet trashed it, but I can't move it back to its original location because when I try to do that Leopard asks for the admin password but the password doesn't exist anymore because it's been moved to the trash. Is there anyway I can remove the private folder from the Trash and put it back? Maybe some kind of Terminal command?
View 3 Replies View Relatedso, i messed up trying to move iphoto to an external hard drive, after some help the ex hd is wiped clean just like new and i have managed to ensure my photos are stil on my imac, hoorah! but in the process i disconnected iphoto from the application, but i got them back together again, so iphoto is in finder like new. only now i would like it back in the dock where it belongs. i am sure i knew how to do this once but have since forgotten. part two of my question is that iphoto now has no backups for browsing on time machine.

I can't move any files on the desktop or put them in the trash.When I try to move the file it shows the circle with the loine through it. When I try to trash them it asks for a password, after I type it in it makes the typical trashing sound but it doesn't go into the trash. I am using lion.

A few days ago, I started being unable to move files from one folder to another in Finder or on my Desktop, using a drag and drop motion. I can move the files if I copy and paste them from one folder to the next, but that is incredibly laborious. I moved my documents folder to my desktop and it disappeared and then i found another folder for my documents and moved it to my dock. And then a icon for my documents ended up on my desktop. When I delete the documents folder on my desktop the format for all my .rar files change to .vlc format. And if I keep the documents on my desktop the files are alright and I'm still able to use it. I tried changing the type of format but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to delete the documents folder off of my desktop and keep the format the same??

I recently got myself a MacBook Pro and I'm having problems transferring files from my old Windows XP based laptop. I downloaded the Windows Migration Assistant onto my old laptop but everytime I tried to run it I got various error messages telling me I needed to upgrade this and that. Now the laptop has decided to give in totally and won't switch on at all! I do have all my music etc backed up onto an external hard drive but when I connect it to my MacBook it just doesn't want to know, I assume as all the data on there is formatted as Windows.

I have some files in my download folder, in my macbook's hard drive, but the problems comes when I am trying to move files to my folder called ''Documents'' and the system's requesting my personal password. 1. The only way I can move from win 7 back to osx is to hold esc and drag the cursor down through the bottom of the win 7 window. Is this how its supposed to work?
2. I have set up a shared folder on osx and set it up on virtualbox but cannot mount it as instructed through the command menu.
3. Virtualbox doesn't recognise my pen drive but osx does.
4. Would it be advantageous to use win 7 lite as I only have 160 hd?

i am considering running a Raid 0 configuration on my Powermac 2x300gb drives. Right now i have duplicated everything onto a 250gb drive and have successfully booted with this drive. Does anybody know what steps i need to talk to Raid the two 300gb drives and move everything back onto them?
