currently i try to move all my files from old hitachi 250gb to new momentus via time machine , yet it fail after 6 percent. so i decide to do a fresh install of mac Os 10.6 but then it no responding at 27 minutes remaining . i try to use both DVD and external Hdd to install but still the same result . i tried to update the momentus Firmware via [URL] yet still same result?
View 4 RepliesI have a MacBook 13" with a 1.83capsule GHz Intel Core Duo and the internal hard drive quit on me. I can't even get disk utilities to see the disk, much less mount it. Fortunately for me, I have a Time Machine on an external HD, and another external HD that I was able to install OS X 10.6.8 (using updates) so I can use the computer. I am looking at a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 250GB 2.5 Hard Drive-SATA 3GB, 8MB Can I do this? As the original HD was 60GB, will there be any problem using the 250GB drive? Also, I need to know how to install it (Actually, because my hands shake, I am going to ask a friend to do the actual work).

After I got my MBP, I upgraded to the Seagate Momentus XT, and everything was fantastic.I know this may sound crazy, but today I upgraded my RAM to 8GB, and ever since, the XT is SO much louder and I can really feel the vibration. Do you think I may have shifted it while replacing the RAM? Is there something I can do to make it quieter again?

I installed Leopard on my G4 laptop fine.When I tried tried to install on my G5 I got a fail to install due to a source problem (?)In any event I restarted from the Tiger hard drive and it's totally screwed up my computer. It tries to start and I get initial Apple logo for about 2 seconds then it locks up and I get a bunch of computer code.

I reinstalled my OSX a few days ago and it's back to 10.5.2. After running software update, it has Mac OSX Update Combine (737MB in size). So I clicked install per usual. However, after I finished downloading the file and it offered to restart and install, the installation failed. Meaning during installation, it stops 1/8 of the whole "installation bar" for 8 hours or so and it didn't budge a bit ever since. I'm not sure what to do now. Should I try to download the combo update from Apple website (729MB in size, not sure why the one in software update version is bigger in size) instead? And try to install that one instead?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSome days ago I went to upgrade my mac mini 2010.I downloaded the combo-updater, as this is my preference. I sometimes have trouble with the normal updater from software update.When running the install I get this message of error above. I tried doing it different ways, downloaded the updater numerous times to try again.I even REINSTALLED OS Lion from the original installer and started over with the same result, even allowing the installer to dl the update, as it asked to do so.So I completely started over with a clean re-partitioned drive and had the same result. I tethered it to my macbook pro 2010 in FIREWIRE TARGET mode and tried installing it that way, same result. I have also just let the Software Updater utility run and allow it to install the downladed update. That activity returns a "cannot expan" error message...End result: It will not for any reason install this update. This is a problem I have never encountered (in 25 years of using macs).

First I follow the boot camp assistant step by step, and my windows7 disk is connected to my mac.However, after it reboots, my screen turns black and the ''Non system disk, press any key to reboot'' appears.Now there is no respond when i press the keyboard, I have to reboot my mac by holding the power button.I have tried times and times, installing refit, using another disk but still cannot fail.

1st method.
i make a recovery drive with recovery disk assistant on macbook air 13 inch which is shipped with lion 10.7 . and i connect my recovery drive with macbook pro 15 inch on which OS is snow leopard 10.6.3, for upgrade/install OS X lion on my macbook pro 15 inch by recovery drive.
when i hold down option key i can see my recovery drive . i can boot through my recovery drive but when i try to install os x lion the computer says "you cant upgrade this version of mac os x "
2nd method

Yes, performance is very good but it only remembers your most used apps. I want consistent speed across the board no matter which app it is. Also, the main reason I am returning is I did not think the vibration was too much until I threw my 5400 Hitachi stock drive back into the machine.It's night and day difference. So I'm going to Optibay+X25-M it. Sucks I have to deal with returns and bite the 15% restocking fee on the Momentus XT (and about $12 for cancelling the order for the optibay alternative+ SATA SuperDrive enclosure) in addition to returning the item, but now I know.

But when I'm doing anything from typing to playing back HD video in FCP, it lags and stutters, then catch up to itself. I did the firmware upgrades to the hard drives, and I have 6GB of RAM. What on EARTH would be causing this? It's driving me crazy! I ordered a Hitachi standard 7200RPM drive to swap into this to see if it's a hard drive issue or a RAM issues, but I'm guessing it's the Momentus.

I am fully aware that this may void my MBP's warranty. I've decided to go with either the 500gb 5400rpm WD or Seagate. I'm just wondering which drive is more reliable and faster. Also, when installing the hard drive, is it ok to use a magnetic screw driver. Someone told me that there's an application called Superduper. It clones the original hard drive to make the upgrade easier. Is this a good application, or are there better options?

NewEgg just dropped the price to $125 shipped for 500gb. I'm thinking about getting it. It's either that or a Scorpio Blue 750gb.Now, what do I do with my laptop? I play Steam games (at times, as they usually run horribly slow), I surf on Chrome, I use Mail, Excel, and iTunes. I also DJ using Traktor Scratch Pro.I bootcamp to play MOST of my games. I know this is a factor for the caching etc.I'm not in DIRE need of space. I have 50gb left, and multiple seasons of different television shows on my hdd. Not to mention several movies. I am a virtual pack rat of sorts, I guess, and I like to carry my media with me. I often use my laptop hooked up to an HDTV for viewing TV shows and movies.

I am torn between the Momentus XT 500GB version, which is on sale at newegg right now for like 69, or going with the Scorpio Black. The differences that have me stuck is the 32 vs 16 cache, as well has the added speed of the seagate compared to the laundry list of problems people have reported with the XT. This will be my first HDD upgrade, and was looking for a little direction.

I finally got my 500gb seagate Momentus XT I've been drooling over only to find out it's a complete nightmare. Upon searching through forums I have yet to find conclusive or consistent problems, I read about some I had but I had many others. I installed the drive in my macbook pro with the hopes of getting it to run faster, which it did but only in certain instances. The pros were fast boot times, applications start fast but many problems persisted. Please follow up if you've had any of these problems. 1) Clean installation of Snow Leopard got stuck at the 10 minute mark 2 times. Each install attempt took much much longer then it has in the past.
