I just installed my new xt today and to format it I did the disk utility and did erase and let it format to the default file type, is that the correct way and will that let it use the drive to full advantage?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm going to use a fast 300GB WD VelociRaptor HD in an e-SATA enclosure connected to my MBP via a Merax e-SATA Xpress XpressCard/34 for moving large audio file drum software during live play. I know FAT32 wont work because of it's 4gig file limitation and stability issues (file corruption). I could use the more modern and stable NTFS but that would require using something like NTFS-3G or Paragon to allow OSX to recognize it but I'm worried about slower performance going that route. Would using the OSX native HFS+ format give me the performance and large file size usage I need?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I attempt to change the default program to open a file, it automatically reverts to whatever was selected previously. I work with a lot of .ai files and my default Illustrator version is set to Creative Cloud. CC crashes constantly on my machine, however CS6 runs smooth as silk. I'd like to be able to double click an .ai file and have it open in CS6, not CC. When I right click > Get Info > Open with and change it, it reverts as soon as I click "Change all..."Â

After I got my MBP, I upgraded to the Seagate Momentus XT, and everything was fantastic.I know this may sound crazy, but today I upgraded my RAM to 8GB, and ever since, the XT is SO much louder and I can really feel the vibration. Do you think I may have shifted it while replacing the RAM? Is there something I can do to make it quieter again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just ordered a 1 terabyte WD external drive, and I'm planning on creating one partition for music/movie storage, and a second smaller partition for a superduper clone. So my first question is, what format should each partition be in? I'd like the movies/music partition to be Windows compatible...will choosing FAT32 make any difference in my use of this partition when used with my OSX machine, and what benefits would I see by using Extended Journaled instead? Then, what format do I want the Superduper backup partition to be? Finally, when I initially format and partition the external drive, is there anything I should do to prepare it first, or just go right ahead, divide it in two (approx. 650gigs for music/movies, the rest for superduper) and then format each partition on its own into the formats they need to be in? Also, do I use GUID partition format?

Just put together a CV using Open Office, it's currently saved as a .odt. I'll be sending this out to a few companies and I'd like to know what the best file type is to select that will be readable by everyone? When I go to 'save as' I see a long list of options and I'm not sure which one to pick so that PC users can view.
Or can they load the .odt file just fine?
I was wondering how I can sort by file type? I have a bunch of .moi and .mod files in a directory and want yo delete the .moi files. If I could sort by type, then it would just be a matter of highlighting those and deleting. I tried sorting by kind, but since they are seen as Unix Executable files by the OS, it sorts them but not by .moi or .mod.Â

I see that under the overview section on the website, it says that this specific version is for the PC and there is a different mac version (I must by the PC version- please don't ask why.... long story). *So, Will this be compatible (for read and write) with my Mac AND PC by default or will I have to format the hard drive in disk utility to some different format?

I've burnt a CD full of pictures with jpg format but after opening it in iphoto 09 (version 8.1.2) I recieve this error " The following file could not be imported, the file is in an unrecognized format". I can't format my WD Elements external hard drive. I used to use it a lot on Windows and now I'm using a MacBook Pro late 2013 with retina display. I tried using the disk utility to simply erase it and it didn't work. Now whenever i try to plug in it, it says disk not read able. I tried the disk partitioning too and it didn't work.Â

Wondering if anyone knows of a piece of software that will determine the type of AVI file I have. I guess tells me what type of encoding it is.

Based on performance, reliability and 5-year warranty, I've been attracted to the Intel 520. I've also read good reports on the Samsung 830. One review indicated that the 830 maintained performance over time while the 520 experienced a significantly greater drop.

this is driving me insane. On Tiger I was always able to select the default application to open a given file type, but I can't do this in SL. I want the XLD app to always open my .flac files. So, I click on a .flack file, select "get info" and select "Open with - XLD", and then I click CHANGE ALL. Fine. Next time, I just click "open" on a .flac and it's back to some other application being the default for opening the file, and not XLD! It keeps doing that, no matter how I keep trying to get XLD to be the default... what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to get it to work?
