Obviously, the Momentus XT will be faster because of its Hybrid structure with the 4gb SSD cache, but how much faster in reality compared to the 1TB drive. I'm coming from the stock 250GB HDD in the 13in MBP (Mid 2009) and am looking to upgrade. Just don't know which to get as I would like speed and more space.
View 4 RepliesI just got my new MBP and it has a Toshiba MK5055GSXF 500gb inside. My old one has a WD Scorpio Blue 500gb. I know the Scorpio Blue is supposed to be fast for a 5400rpm. Does anyone have an opinion whether it would be worth it to switch them? Is the WD superior?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter I got my MBP, I upgraded to the Seagate Momentus XT, and everything was fantastic.I know this may sound crazy, but today I upgraded my RAM to 8GB, and ever since, the XT is SO much louder and I can really feel the vibration. Do you think I may have shifted it while replacing the RAM? Is there something I can do to make it quieter again?

I am using a rocketfish adapter to connect MacBook Pro to a Toshiba TV with HDMI. I can see all icons and apps on the Mac but only the typical Mac background screen on the TV (you know the stars and northern lights). No apps are showing on the TV. So, there is a connection because I can see the trademark Apple background on the screen, but none of the apps are showing while I work away on the Mac. I did the same thing with my Sony TV tv and I was able to see everything on the Sony screen. Is there a compatability problem with the Toshiba or is there something I need to do to reconfigure the Mac ?

I am replacing a MacBook Pro HD with a Seagate Momentus 500gb HD. The Apple one is reconized but semi corrupted, the Seagate one isn't even reconized. The onl difference between the two that I notice is the side slot on the far right of the Seasgate. I have a moshi Mini DP to HDMI adapter, HDMI cable (Monster Digital Audio and Video) and a Toshiba 26SL400U LED TV. According to what I have read about my MBP it supports audio out through the MiniDP (under the System Profiler Audio(built in) it shows HDMI / Display Port Output) Following the instructions for the Moshi adapter (sold at the Apple Store) I hook everything up MBP>Adapter>HDMI Cable>TV. Turn the TV on and I should be able to select the HDMI option for audio in System preferences and I should be able to select the display as well.

I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my MBP, and I'm stuck trying to choose between the ones listed above.
The 2407WFP is a couple of years old now I guess, but it's the rev A04 version, which supposedly fixed the (few) problems with what was otherwise meant to be a great screen. It's an sPVA screen.
I've heard good reviews of the G2410, with its LED backlighting. It's still a TN panel and I hear so much bad stuff about them.
The 2209WA is an eIPS panel which I like the sound of, but it's smaller and lower resolution.
The F2380 is a cPVA panel, the image quality looks better but I've heard bad things about blacks on this panel.
I had returned the unibody Macbook I bought last December primarily due to the low quality screen. I'm wondering if anyone has comparison photos between the two (especially at different viewing angles), as I'm seriously considering purchasing the 13" again.

I went to genius bar yesterday because some problems with the privies hard disk drive. They gave me the toshiba as a replacement. I wasn't required to sign any paper after that. Before when I got a replacement iphone or macbook charger, they both asked me to sign a paper. I don't know why this time is different. Also I heard that Toshiba hard drive is worse than Samsung's.By the way, I didn't erase my documents in previous hard drive, will anyone be able use or read them? Well, I saved many account passwords in that hard drive.

I know there's been plenty of discussion about how hot the new MBP's are running or not (I've been through all the threads, and really appreciated Scott666's posts abt his i7 MBP) but I still havent seen any exact head to head temperature comparison between the 15" i5 2.4/2.53ghz and the 15" i7 2.66ghz, with both running the same programs/being stressed equally while the readings are taken.
I know it's a hassle, but it's a huge investment for me and i'd ideally like the i7 as I edit video but can't always have access to a desk to prevent crispy fried legs I keep hearing sweeping statements like 'the i5 should run cooler' but no real comparison has been done...
What is the battery life like running on windows 7? I'm going to primarily use the an air under windows but will it really lower the battery life? Can't seem to find this info in any of the reviews so far.

Yes, performance is very good but it only remembers your most used apps. I want consistent speed across the board no matter which app it is. Also, the main reason I am returning is I did not think the vibration was too much until I threw my 5400 Hitachi stock drive back into the machine.It's night and day difference. So I'm going to Optibay+X25-M it. Sucks I have to deal with returns and bite the 15% restocking fee on the Momentus XT (and about $12 for cancelling the order for the optibay alternative+ SATA SuperDrive enclosure) in addition to returning the item, but now I know.
