I am looking to download and install VMware, however it will probably be not original as I'll download it off the internet. So my question is, will my protection plan be affected? I mean if I give my laptop for repair then is it possible they won't repair it or something. Cause if that's the case I might as well just buy VMware.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iMac hard drive died and I got a new one installed from Apple and my dad's friend installed Leopard for me and he started to download and install the updates from Apple and I don't know if he stopped the install midway but when I tried to download and install them NONE of them install. I called Apple and they told me to try something in Disk Utility with "verify disk" and it didn't work still and then they sent me something about trying to Archive and Installing but it seems really complicated. Is there anything else I can try?

Decided to install Mavericks onto my 13' Macbook Pro, which is currently at Lion right now. First tried the default download and restart to run, but ran into the problem of it saying, when trying to install OS X, "There is not enough space on this disk". I was trying to install on Macintosh HD, which had 372 gigs free..Â
The other two options had the same message, being titled "OS X Install ESD" and "disk0s1". After tearing my hair out at how incredibly non-user friendly this was, I tried the USB method, following a guide to correctly put Mavericks on a 8gig USB. Same issue, though said to try and customize it, or something. a simple download and install method doesnt work for this sort of thing. Why would t be saying 370+ gigs is not enough to install?Â
I purchased Call of Duty Modern Warfare, a large 7gig download, the download was interrupted and I had to re-boot. In the App Store under Purchases it lists the purchase but not installed. When I click install, box changes momentarily but then nothing happens. There is no option to resume, or re-download. Perhaps the download was complete before the interruption but there is no indication anywhere under launch or in Finder. What are my options? Is this common? I am already regretting buying such a large program.

Because of software compatibility limitations (see Avid Media Composer), I need to find a download of the base Mavericks install, so the first 10.9 install. Avid will only support up to 10.9.2, so I'd like to install 10.9 and then take it up to .2.I can find the 9.2 combo updates, but not the base install.

I'm new to the Mac world and am thinking of installing Windows 7 on there (not sure why, but think I might need it at some point!) - the question is..
.. can I download a copy from MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network I think it stands for) to my Mac, then rip it to a DVD and then install it? I assume I'll need something like parrallels, or boot camp?

I have a MacPro 2009 with OS X 10.9.5 installed. I just added a PCI-e card with a SSD on it. Can I install a fresh copy of OS X 10.9.5 on the SSD and use it as a boot drive too? I plan on using my MacPro for audio production and the requirements are quite stringent to be able to provide good performance. So, my hope is that I can boot to my existing HD while using Office, Safari, etc but when I want to use it for audio production be able to boot to the SSD and have nothing on it except my audio software (Cubase, Wavelab, & associated plug-ins) on the working system. I also plan on upgrading to Yosemite for my "regular" HD boot drive but leaving Mavericks on the SSD for the time being as the audio production software is not yet compatible with Yosemite.Â
I don't want to just move from my existing HD to the new SSD as I don't want all the associated software to be copied over as well. Just a clean install of Mavericks on the extra internal SSD. There is nothing on the SSD at this time. Only initialized. I believe I can use a keyboard short-cut on boot to tell which drive to boot from but I have not been able to find a way to download Mavericks to do a fresh install of it on the new SSD.

I didn't expect to have compatibility issues with this combination, but I am stuck. I was experiencing some small problems with Safari after upgrading: downloads would launch a new empty tab rather than an actual download, and I would get graphical glitches loading pages from top tabs - so I uninstalled Safari and downloaded a new copy. However, on re-installing, I get a message informing me that I need at least MacOS 10.5.8 installed...
Has anyone else found this? I did an upgrade install of Snow Leopard, and other than a few 3rd party apps being caught out, all is well, and I am enjoying an otherwise noticeably nippier system. As Safari was working previously (unsurprisingly), perhaps this problem stems from an OS compatibility flag within the Safari installer itself, similar to that found in 1Password recently, that could be altered within the installer package to allow installation - But I am guessing, and I don't see why I am having this issue in the first place given the amount of testing of Safari leading up to Snow Leopard.
When downloading small files online they will download through Speed Download. Before I installed Speed Download it would just download through the regular downloading client. How do I change it back to using the regular one as standard? I use firefox btw
