May 31, 2012I'm trying to do a restore of my lion 10.7.3 over the internet and I'm getting this message. Can't download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X, anyone have any ideas on how to fix this

Mar 5, 2012My Macbook Pro would not boot into Lion boots into bootcamp no problem, with Lion it tries than the MBP shuts down, so I decided to try and clean install Lion, I tired both with internet recovery and with a bootable DVD I made with the Install.dmg file. Both methods gets to the end where I get an error saying cant install additional components.

Nov 11, 2008Does anyone have instructions for the new macbook Air 128Gb ssd, how to do a clean install, if you follow the procedures from the first model, you can omit the printer driver, other languages etc. but the applications are on a second DVD called Application DVD (unlike the 1st Macbook Air where it was Mac OS system disk 1 and 2) and its all or nothing, I didn't check the box and all the apps were installed, I don't need Garage Band, IMOVIE or IDVD etc, has anyone come across this and a solution for it, maybe not insert the applications DVD to save the additional disk space?

Sep 1, 2009My iBook died a while back and i fitted a new motherboard but the hard drive was faulty so i put in another hd and the ibook works fine. Except that i cant install Mac for word as i have not got the user password. This is not the master password. How do i get around this? I have another mac with wordmac can i copy that onto a disc from applications and load it?

Aug 25, 2009I got my first Mac (15" MacBook Pro) in late June, so I will be receiving my Snow Leopard disc within the next week or so. This will be my first reinstallation of OSX. I will not do an upgrade however - I'm still going to do a clean reformat/reinstall. So, is it necessary to do additional driver installations once you have finished installing OSX? I know on a Windows machine, after you install the OS, you really need to go through and install drivers for most of your hardware. I'm wondering how this works with OSX.

So I'm wondering, assuming I only need the OS install and the third-party application takes up minimal space, and I will not be installing anything other than whatever comes with the truckload of windows updates, what is the suggested partition size for Win7 (x64)?

Oct 14, 2010Last week my friend gave me their macbook for free and told me it had a fried logic board. I took it just because I wanted the learning experience. I'm a freshmen learning engineering, so if soldering/de-soldering is needed I should be fine. I'm wondering how to figure out what is wrong with the logic board, ie. if it got water damage because I was thinking maybe I could try to get replacement components for the logic board. Also it came with a 60gb hard drive, but I was wondering if I could upgrade that. I know I need a 2.5 sata drive, but I was wondering if iIhad to get the hard drive from apple or if I could just go on newegg and buy any hard drive that has 2.5" sata connection.

Jun 3, 2012I have a broken MBP that wont boot, repair is too expensive so I will be buying a new one. I plan on changing out the hard drive (because it has 500 GB capacity) and also the ram (total of 6 GB's) and putting them into my new notebook of the same year and model. However I am curious: if there is a problem with one of these components (hard drive, ram) is there a chance that it can infect the new computer? I don't know much about computers in this regard and I don't want to transfer and issue from my old MBP (Which repairer's said could be a bad video graphic card but they are not sure).Â

Jun 5, 2010alrightyyy so basically my unibody 2008 macbook crashed a short while back, needed to re-install OSX, files were saved, applications were not. I had been using iLife '09 off a copy that my mother got with with her 2009 polycarbonate macbook. After the crash I upgraded to 10.6 and attempted to install iLife '09 again. It told me thus: 'Alert: this software cannot be installed on this computer'. And that's it. I can't access any of my pictures in iPhoto or upload any(3 wedding albums :3), and I can't access any of my old Garage Band files, simply because they were created on '09 and since the reboot I'm stuck with '08. Major bummer. Bottom Line: is there any way to get iLife '09 on my computer without wasting $100 just to access files?

Oct 28, 2009Apple this week is equipping developers with a new beta of Mac OS X 10.6.2, the second maintenance and security update to the company's new Snow Leopard operating system that will perform upgrades to nearly 150 components. The latest beta, labeled Mac OS X 10.6.2 build 10C535, comes one week after the Mac maker issued build 10C531 to address issues with Snow Leopard's Dock, ColorSync, QuartzCore and graphic driver components. This week, Apple has asked developers to continue to provide feedback on graphics drivers while also tasking them with focusing their evaluation efforts on TrackPad preferences and the ability to create virtual machines, people familiar with the matter say.
As was the case with last week's beta, documentation accompanying build 10C535 reportedly lists no known issues. And while Apple has temporarily ceased its practice of providing a running list of bug fixes that will come baked into the impending release, it did identify 148 components that have seen tweaks. Among those components are AppleBacklight, Battery Menu, Dictionary, Expose, FileSync, Family Controls, Fonts, Front Row, HFS, Inkwell, iPhoto, MobileMe, OpenCL, Parental Controls, QuickTime, Screen Sharing, Spell Checker, Spotlight, Time Machine, and USB. In bare bones Delta form, Mac OS X 10.6.2 currently weighs in at roughly 480MB. It's expected for release sometime next month.[View this article at AppleInsider.com]
