How many out there use their SD card slot on a consistent basis? I know I don't.How many would like to see an additional USB port or the express 34 slot, again?
View 24 RepliesI would like to have two firewire devices connected to my MBP but would prefer not to share bandwidth. If I purchased a firewire express card would that provide me with a 2nd dedicated firewire bus. It seems based the express 34 bus architecture that this would work however.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver model M8667LL/A, Dual 1.0 Ghz, that I'd like to see about adding an additional USB port to the back of the unit. It only comes with two, one is being used for the keyboard-> mouse, the other I have an external hard drive plugged into. I recently bought a cradle for my Fuji digital camera that comes with a USB cord, I'd like to hardmount the cradle and plug it in but don't want to swap with the hard drive every time I use it or run the cable to the spare keyboard port, that looks like hell. Is this a feasible option to do, and if so, how? Mind you I'm not a computer expert so I'd either need a very basic set of instructions or an technician to do it locally, but first I'd like to know if it's even possible.

I have a question for you about the ExpressCard slot of the new MacBook Pros.. I'm going to buy (maybe today) my first Mac and I'd like to buy the 17", since I need a portable desktop replacement... one of the reasons why I'd like to buy the 17" (apart from the very nice screen resolution) is that it has an ExpressCard slot which enables you (I hope) to expand the capabilities of your MBP in the future... My question is if the ExpressCard is version 1 or 2, because I'd like to buy in the future an ExpressCard with USB 3 ports and only the ExpressCard 2 can support the specifications of USB 3 (5 Gbps), is it right? Do you think there will be USB 3 ExpressCards for the MBPs?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about purchasing one of the early releases of the MBP 15", before they replaced the expresscard slot with the SD Card slot. As a filmmaker, the expresscard slot allows on-site ingestion of Sony's and Panasonic's SxS and P2 cards - a nice utility. I also don't use point-and-shoots, so the SD card has zero utility for me.I just wanted to make sure that, before I buy the previous revision, there is nothing I will be missing by purchasing the older edition. I remember that they widened the color gamut on the MBPs by 30% with the update, but this is really insignificant as their color accuracy isn't thaaaat great anyway.

I bought this refurbished Macbook from Apple on November 26, 2008 (model MB061LL/B).
I have a Linksys and just switched to using an Airport Express for the wireless network. In order to use Desktop Connection (VNC) on my iPad I need to open the ports 5900 (Mac Pro) and 3389 (PC). In 1st pic is my Linksys setup that did this. In the 2nd, is this where I enter the ports (under Host or Tunnel) and what syntax for Address and Length? Or if this is the wrong place how do I do it?

However, I need it to smoothly run Final Cut Express (I do some video editing for work) and Logic Express (I'm a full time musician). I travel a lot with my computer and my current 15" 2.16GHZ MBP has always been a bit bulky and heavy, and lags a bit when using Final Cut.
Will I get smooth performance running FCE and LE with the 13", and will it be a capable computer (keep up with updated software) for the next 4 years or so? I'd probably max out the RAM and maybe get a faster processor if I was to settle on the 13". If not, I'm looking at having to get the 15", any suggestions on which 15" model would be the best for me in terms of what I need it for? Would I be set with a lower end 15"?
I have just ordered a new MacBook Pro and it does not have enough USB ports for my needs.If I have a USB 3.0 hub and I mix USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 peripherals on it, will the whole hub/computer USB 3.0 port be slowed down to USB 2.0 speeds?I am thinking back to Firewire, if you have Firewire 800 and 400 devices on the same chain, the whole chain slowed to Firewire 400 speeds.I don't think this is the same with USB but wanted some reassurance..

I currently run my MacBook in clamshell mode with an external monitor, keyboard, etc. I have researched usb to VGA or DVI conversion kits but all of the sources seem outdated. I don't need HDMI because my sound output goes through my MiniPort Display, out through speakers connected to my primary monitor. I am aware that a usb connection will come with lag, but it isn't that big of a deal.

I am having issues with my Dual Band 1TB time capsule for some reason the damn ports won't forward I have enabled the correct settings with the ip address and the ports, but when I use a program to test if the ports are open they are always closed, regardless on pc or mac. Does anyone have a solution to this? I even reset my Time capsule to see if it would work, but no luck.

Here's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter.
I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.
I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.
PLEASE don't say to go to portforward.com because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]
I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.
