My headphone jack was working just fine until this morning when I opened my computer. It's plugged in, but the sound keeps going through the head speakers. I have done the system preference check to make sure it is not muted.

When I plug a set of headphones on my macbook pro, it no longer recognizes that headphones are plugged in. I have tried three different sets of headphones just to make sure that they are not the problem. In Sound/Output section of system preferences, it still says internal speakers even when the headphones are plugged in all the way.
Is there a fix for this I can do myself or do I need to take it in to an Apple Store?
I bought my unibody MBP back in late July from the Apple store here. It's been a great machine. Except all of a sudden my headphone jack won't play sound. I realized this last night as I tried to listen to music on it while surfing the web. I've plugged headphones into it maybe 10 times total. And they worked every time before. If I unplug the headphones and plug them back in repeatedly I can get them to work after about the 4th or 5th time. When they do work, the sound is great. Anyway, I made an appointment with the genius bar this afternoon to show them and see if there is anything they can do. Obviously, after paying $2,500 for a laptop I would expect it to run completely flawlessly. But at the same time, I'm hoping they don't offer to replace it with a refurbished one. In fact, I would prefer to not even get a new one. I love this one, I guess I just hope it's fixable.
View 12 Replies View RelatedSound is working fine on my MBA - but when i plug anything into the headphone jack i hear a millisecond of sound then nothing, as soon as i take it out again, it is still playing fine through built in speakers. I think it started happening after i downloaded and installed the latest update but i'm not 100% sure. Tested headphones, stereo etc. and nothing, working. (stereo & headphones work fine through iphone etc. so it's not the cable or the jack) It also does seem like it takes longer for the MBA to recognise something is plugged in? could be a software bug on the new update?

I have been using the line-in on my MBP to record with my guitar/bass for about 3 years. I use Logic Express 9 to record. All of a sudden, the line-in no longer works and I get this awful clicking sound the entire time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedTwo or three days ago, the topmost line of my keyboard (contains esc, brightness, expose, dashboard, play/pause, mute, eject, etc.) suddenly stopped working. Strangely, some of the keys have switched functions: expose opens a search bar, keyboard dimmer refreshes the webpage, keyboard brighter selects the web address, play/pause is now shows Spaces, skip forward is expose, and sound increase is dashboard. I reset my keyboard, but nothing changed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy internal speakers work fine. When I plug in headphones, the left side has normal audio for about one second, then becomes barely audible. The right side is barely audible all the time. If I unplug them, and re-plug them, the same exact thing happens. Everything looks good in the sound properties page. I know the headphones work because I tried them in another device.

It was working fine then the sound level increased and the quality became distorted (like a "fuzz base" but affecting all sounds)I was in the process of digitizing records, and believed the record played broke. So I got a new record player (audio-technica AT-LP120-USB). The same thing occurred with the audio in-put port, so I switched to the USB port and the audio was fine. I also checked with music already on my HD and it played fine. Consequently it has to be the in-put line port and/or a software issue.

I installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...

I plug my laptop into external speakers for better sound. Now for some reason they are not working. Its not the speakers because I tried some headphones also and got no sound as well. I just downloaded itunes 10, but the speakers were working fine yesterday so I don't think that is it.

When I adjust the audio setting (apple icon--> System Preferences --> Sound --> select "Input" tab --> highlight " Line in; Audio line-in port") I can only hear sounds through the headphone but the mic portion does not pic up. If I hit the mic portion I see the bars move, that would indicate some sound being picked up. However, when I try to use the mic, through Mac Office Powerpoint 2010, the sound (if received through the mic) does not pick up.Â
Why is this happening? Do I need some extra external component for the microphone part of the headset to work or do something extra in the System Preference area?

I tested many different headphones and speakers, and none of them work. I am suspecting a hardware issue, because when I plug it in, i head the static while it is being plugged in. However it does not switch the audio. The only thing is, if it was a hardware problem, wouldn't it be stuck in the headphone mode because the switcher is stuck?

They replaced the logicboard(2nd time in 4 months) and the battery. Now after taking it hope and plugging in my external speakers into the headphone jack I get this weird thump sound. It happens twice and I'll watch the audio strength at the top right. Each time it goes from like it's working to a gray color as if it's not or locked. If I try to play something like music with the jack in my entire screen freezes and I have to restart my computer entirely for it to work. Btw there is no red light in the headphone jack. The last time I had the logic board replaced it was a sound problem.

I noticed today that the headphone jack on my 13" MBP is not working. I recall it working within the last few days but now nothing. I see no immediate evidence of external damage or foreign object intrusion, and the MBP has not even moved from the desk where it was last used.Suppose I have to go back to the Apple Store to have it fixed, which is a bummer because I literally just had it in there like a week ago to get the optical drive replaced.If the headphone jack does not work, is it required to replace the whole logic board, or is it a part they can typically replace individually? If the logic board needs replacing, do they have to order it in, or do they sometimes keep those in stock? I'd like to know as this might require me to leave the laptop there for several days again which might need some planning on my part.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been connecting wirelessly to the same router for about 4 months now, using DHCP, and having the settings on the automatic connection. I left the computer on, but closed, so sleeping, for about two days. When i opened it, the battery did not yet run out but the internet has not connected since.
I have full connection in internet connect to my network. Status says connected. If I have the IPv4 using DHCP, the status says that i am connected but my computer have a self-assigned IP adress. When I put in the IP manually, the Network setting give me a green light on airport and says that I am connected to the network thru airport. Needless to say, no browsers (Firefox, Safari, Netscape, or Internet Explorer) have been able to connect to the internet.
I have tried running Disk Utility for any errors, but there have been no changes.

My 2.4 Aluminum MacBook has a very serious problem, but only with the line-in port. The headphones work fine through the line out. When I plug the microphone, the built-in mic still works,]. I tried everything, it just doesn't work at all, i plugged in the microphone and changed the system preferences manually and did everything with all the applications, but still, nothing is working. I have had this MacBook for 2 weeks now. I wish I waited couple of days for the pro.
