My internal speakers work fine. When I plug in headphones, the left side has normal audio for about one second, then becomes barely audible. The right side is barely audible all the time. If I unplug them, and re-plug them, the same exact thing happens. Everything looks good in the sound properties page. I know the headphones work because I tried them in another device.

The problem now is my headphone jack does not work. I have my MBP closed with externals plugged and only to have the internal speakers working.
When I plug a set of headphones on my macbook pro, it no longer recognizes that headphones are plugged in. I have tried three different sets of headphones just to make sure that they are not the problem. In Sound/Output section of system preferences, it still says internal speakers even when the headphones are plugged in all the way.
Is there a fix for this I can do myself or do I need to take it in to an Apple Store?
I bought my unibody MBP back in late July from the Apple store here. It's been a great machine. Except all of a sudden my headphone jack won't play sound. I realized this last night as I tried to listen to music on it while surfing the web. I've plugged headphones into it maybe 10 times total. And they worked every time before. If I unplug the headphones and plug them back in repeatedly I can get them to work after about the 4th or 5th time. When they do work, the sound is great. Anyway, I made an appointment with the genius bar this afternoon to show them and see if there is anything they can do. Obviously, after paying $2,500 for a laptop I would expect it to run completely flawlessly. But at the same time, I'm hoping they don't offer to replace it with a refurbished one. In fact, I would prefer to not even get a new one. I love this one, I guess I just hope it's fixable.
View 12 Replies View RelatedSound is working fine on my MBA - but when i plug anything into the headphone jack i hear a millisecond of sound then nothing, as soon as i take it out again, it is still playing fine through built in speakers. I think it started happening after i downloaded and installed the latest update but i'm not 100% sure. Tested headphones, stereo etc. and nothing, working. (stereo & headphones work fine through iphone etc. so it's not the cable or the jack) It also does seem like it takes longer for the MBA to recognise something is plugged in? could be a software bug on the new update?

I have a one month old "late 2011 model" unibody Macbook Pro where the HDMI output just suddenly stopped working with no changes in configuration. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, switched HDMI cables, cold rebooting everything, tried different HDMI ports, different resolutions on the TV and switched audio output settings, nothing works. When I plug the cable in the Mac switches resolutions, recognizes the TV in the Displays preference panel and correctly identifies it as a Toshiba, but doesn't send any audio or video signals to the TV.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a Headroom Headphone Total Bithead mobile Amp., 2.66 MacPro, and Sennheiser HD650's (that are hard to drive). The amp. has a high and low gain switch. The low gain sounds better, but I can't get enough vol. when on low gain. I've got iTunes level up as high as it can go. I've played around with Sound prefs. and the Audio/Midi sound levels. They all seem to actually be the same vol. control.
I also see that iTunes, under "Get Info" has an individual vol. adjustment, but I'm not sure if I really want the sound files to be pumped up for when I use them on my iPhone.
I installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...
I was using my 13" White Macbook (Spring 07) all day today, listening to music on headphones while working. I brought my computer over to a friend's house and attempting to line out some audio from Garage Band to speakers through the headphone jack and suddenly all audio began to have skips & spaces every second or so. I can still the hear songs but they are constantly interrupted. I tried Itunes & audio from the internet, and two different pairs of headphones I know work. Same problem every time. The strange thing is that the audio works perfectly out of the internal speakers. Has anyone had this same problem? I haven't seen anything on the web that was similar. I tried the Q-Tip/Toothpick trick suggested on a bunch of other threads. But I don't think it's an issue of the computer not adjusting to the headphone setting. Also tried to resetting the battery, but that didn't work either.

A problem arose a day before the update was installed wherein my macbook no longer transmits sound through the headphone jack. i have no reason to suspect a hardware failure, there has been no damage to the computer. is there any way this could (please, god) be a software failure? and if so, one that i can fix?

I just got this new iMac that I got used and the sound on the computer does not seem to be working, I have tried doing what the computer tells me and going into System Preferences and selecting the sound option, but the sound seems to have been permanently disabled and shows that there are no output or input devices available, when clearly the monitor has speakers. whats more, is that the volume icon does not show up in the menu bar even when I select that I want it in the menu bar.

I have my Xbox 360 sound out-putting through an optical digital cable to the digital input of my Dual 2.3ghz Power G5. My mac recognizes the signal but I was hoping I could somehow use the incoming sound to output through my headphone speaker jack on the front of my mac. Both my mac and xbox 360 use the same monitor.
I noticed it doesn't work that way. Is there a way to switch the incoming digital signal to route through my headphone port on the front of my mac? There has to be a way.

Currently I have my heaphones jack Line-In routed to my AV Receiver for iTunes music in my room, but whenever I am YouTubing or other stuff while listening to music the System Sounds come out of my Loudspeakers too. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a aluminum iMac, which has been working fine until now. A couple of hours ago I restarted it and went and did something else for a couple of hours. I then came back to find my keyboard and mouse not working, I double checked and they were both plugged in fine (I use the aluminum apple keyboard and a kensington mouse). I restarted my computer but it still did not fix the problem (I was still stuck at the login screen). I thought it might be the USB, so I plugged my iPod in, and it did not charge. While my iPod was still connected to my computer I restarted it again and as soon as the screen turned grey my iPod started charging and my mouse worked (the light turned on), but only until the grey apple logo appeared and it then stopped working again. I have tried every USB slot and none of them work. I'm pretty sure my computer was completely updated as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my 24" 2.8GHz iMac from November 2007 flawless until today, 1 of 3 usb ports on the back simply decided to stop working. my keyboard, when plugged in, does not work, however, I usually use this one port with my iPod, when I plug my iPod in, it turns on, says its connected, then ejects automatically, though in the other ports...it works fine in the other ports.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe camera had been working fine with FaceTime, Photo Booth and Skype under 10.9.4 and then something happened. I run FaceTime and the camera screen comes up, but it's black with no sidebar. I had this happen once before when the serial number hadn't been put back after they replaced the motherboard. It's back in now and was working fine. I did have to install Google hangouts plug in, but FaceTime was working fine after that and I've since uninstalled it after FaceTime stopped working and it still doesn't work.Â
I did have AirParrot and SoundFlower installed which the camera worked with, but uninstalled them as I saw something about a possible problem. I've reset SMU and PRAM, nothing. he mac sees the camera as being there so it shouldn't be a camera problem, but the apps while seeing the camera aren't getting any input [and no it's not blocked. ]Â

Brought them out of storage on a very, very careful move and now some don't work which used to days ago.
- 320 GB lacie - works
- 1 TB elements works
- Samsung 2TB works
- 1TB firewire 400 WD was working, right up to tonight, and now it doesn't (not even on the USB connection instead of Fire Wire)
- 1TB WD (used for time machine) stopped working weeks agoGot a message about a device or such plugged into USB was drawing too much power earlier, first time ever
Turned the mac off, disconnected the power, held power button 5 secs and plugged in and restarted, no goodThe working ones seem to work on an unpowered hub but those not working of course don't Have searched the internet, nothing seems to be giving an answer of late for this.
Other issues starting to arise:
- DVD's won't eject from the iMac now
- Internet (Wireless lan connected to iinet DSL wireless router (BOB) drops out a lot and have to run network diagnostic all the time)These are less important, need to fix this HDD issue so I can back up with time machine and install snow leopard then develop my app)
My friend is telling me the dvd player stopped because the hard drive is to full. Its a nice imac4,1. It needs to be cleaned out and or restored but what software should we use? Or is there a way to do it for free.

After installing the iMac's Target Display Update 1.0 and 10.6.4, I'm no longer able to connect the MBP to my iMac. When I plug in my mini displayport cable, the iMac's screen goes black for a few seconds, then the MBP's screen flashes blue for a second or two, and then back to normal, and finally, the iMac's screen goes blue for 5 seconds or so, and then back to the desktop.
