MacBook :: Headphone With Mic Not Working In Audio Input

Mar 23, 2012

This headphone/headset that is equipped with a mic does not work properly when I connect it to the audio input opening. The headphone/headset is only equipped with one plug (is this the proper term?).

When I adjust the audio setting (apple icon--> System Preferences --> Sound --> select "Input" tab --> highlight " Line in; Audio line-in port") I can only hear sounds through the headphone but the mic portion does not pic up. If I hit the mic portion I see the bars move, that would indicate some sound being picked up. However, when I try to use the mic, through Mac Office Powerpoint 2010, the sound (if received through the mic) does not pick up.

Why is this happening? Do I need some extra external component for the microphone part of the headset to work or do something extra in the System Preference area?

OS X :: Headphone Plugged In - Audio Port Not Working

My built in speakers work fine all the time, even when I have headphones plugged in. I looked under the output devices in the system settings and the only option is for built in audio output, a.k.a speakers, there is no option for an alternate audio output, a.k.a headphones. When I plug in my headphones nothing happens, sound continues out of the internal speakers like nothing happened.I have Mac OS X version 10.4.11.. iMac7,1.. 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 1b 667 mgz DDR2 SDRAM

I've read other threads similar to mine but none of them seem to be exactly what I'm having trouble with.My internal speakers work fine but when I put my headphones in, or any kind of external audio device, it doesn't work. When I press the volume buttons it has the "no sign" underneath the audio gauge. Oh by the way this is a macbook from 2008.

Power Mac G5 :: Digital Input Route Through Headphone Jack Output?

Oct 30, 2007

I have my Xbox 360 sound out-putting through an optical digital cable to the digital input of my Dual 2.3ghz Power G5. My mac recognizes the signal but I was hoping I could somehow use the incoming sound to output through my headphone speaker jack on the front of my mac. Both my mac and xbox 360 use the same monitor.

I noticed it doesn't work that way. Is there a way to switch the incoming digital signal to route through my headphone port on the front of my mac? There has to be a way.

OS X :: How To Listen To Audio Input To My MBP Through Audio In Line?

Jul 27, 2007

I have audio that is being sent to my MBP through an audio in line that I would like to monitor for audio quality. The only way I know how to listen in real time to the audio is by way of Audio Recorder, but it seems a little unnecessary to have a recording application open simply to listen to my media that is being sent in. Is there a feature already part of OS X that allows me to turn this on? I looked in system prefs, but couldn't find anything to enable this. I will resort to audio recorder if I have to, but would be very happy if this was already a feature.

MacBook :: Audio Output - Headphone Jack

Jul 9, 2009

I was using my 13" White Macbook (Spring 07) all day today, listening to music on headphones while working. I brought my computer over to a friend's house and attempting to line out some audio from Garage Band to speakers through the headphone jack and suddenly all audio began to have skips & spaces every second or so. I can still the hear songs but they are constantly interrupted. I tried Itunes & audio from the internet, and two different pairs of headphones I know work. Same problem every time. The strange thing is that the audio works perfectly out of the internal speakers. Has anyone had this same problem? I haven't seen anything on the web that was similar. I tried the Q-Tip/Toothpick trick suggested on a bunch of other threads. But I don't think it's an issue of the computer not adjusting to the headphone setting. Also tried to resetting the battery, but that didn't work either.

MacBook Pro :: No Audio Input Or Output On 15 Inch?

May 15, 2012

I recently had a cracked panel on an old Macbook Pro 15 inch (A1260) and just replaced it with a new one.  Ever since i replaced it i have had no sound.  Now i consider myself an experienced mac user so i have checked under my sound prefences and it doesnt list anything under sound input or output and things are grayed out.  I also had the guy who replaced my panel, who is also my friend, check everything out and he hasn't been able to figure out why there is no sound.  he gave me a usb midi device that shows up and works but when unplugged theres nothing.

Another thing that has started is, video online will stop every 11 seconds, and thats with me clicking on the bar when it stops playing after the first 11 seconds.

MacBook Pro :: Headphone Audio Distortion - Whining Noise

Oct 13, 2008

I recently got my MBP and I noticed there's a issue with headphone audio distortion. When I plug in my earphone or headphone without any sound playing, there's a clear whining noise like zi zi zi sound which is really clear, sounds like old 80s radio noise. When I play the music, of course it was covered by the sound of music but it really bugs me out knowing that I cannot listen the pure sound of my music. The volume of this distortion noise would not change while I turn up or down the volume of my MBP. I asked someone professional, he said it's a famous issue of screen frequency disturbing audio in macbook pro.

But when I plug in headphones or an external speaker, everything works fine. I can once again adjust the audio and get sound

There was a red light eminating from the audio out jack for a while (last couple of days) but today, there is no longer a red light. Still no audio from the speakers.

It was expressed to me that this new one jack could support audio out and in as labeled by apples tech specs. I tried hooking up my synthesiser to the port yet garageband did not recognize an audio in port, nor did the computer.

MacBook Pro :: No Sound Input From Audio Line-in Port (mic)?

Jun 29, 2012

I'm trying to plug in and use an external microphone to record a screen capture. Sound gets through the headphones great but, looking at Input Sound in the Sys Pref, the Line In device does not pick up any sound when I speak into the mic. If I switch it back to the Built-In Internal Microphone device it picks up my voice fine. In the Audio MIDI Setup, the Built-in Input device is selected as the device to be used for sound input. There is a switch on my headset to mute or unmute the mic and I've tried it in both positions. There is a volume dial on my headset (presumably for the headphones) and I've fiddled with that too. I've moved the Input volume for the Line In Audio Line-in port device all the way up and still it hasn't picked up a thing. I have a Mac os x Lion on a Macbook Pro and using a 3.5 mm mini-jack headset with two cables, one for the headphones and one for the microphone.

MacBook Air :: Does The Headphone Socket Support Audio In Via IPhone Headphones

Nov 21, 2009

I could answer this myself tomorrow morning by trying it out on my fiance's new MBA but it's in the bedroom and she's asleep. Chances are I'll forget by tomorrow so I figured I'd ask here.

My Unibody MacBook Pro (Rev A) can use the microphone in my iPhone headphones when they're plugged into the audio out port. The volume controls on the headphones also work. Is this also true for the audio out socket on the MBA?

If yes then it should be pretty easy to make a mono audio input source by hacking an old set of iPhone headphones. I'll probably just get some kind of USB audio in adapter but this could always be an option.

MacBook :: Audio Device Freezing And Delicate Headphone Jack?

Apr 9, 2010

I am using a unibody MacBook (non-Pro). I have 2 issues, the first one is that whenever I plug in an audio device such as headphones or speakers while iTunes is playing, the song will freeze for about 30 seconds. The computer gets very laggy and iTunes freezes. Not even the media/volume buttons on the keyboard work. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and iTunes 9.1 (79). ALSO i have another problem I have been having since I got the MacBook I'm sure. I plug in a device into the standard headphone jack, and it just kind of sits there half plugged in (like not clicked in all the way). And so i have to push it to make it actually work, but here's the thing, if I'm listening to music in bed for example or on a slightly non-solid surface the headphones will just "pop out"! ... Like not literally but they will come out a slight bit and then the audio starts playing through the internal MacBook speakers. I'm pretty sure (but don't quote me on it) that Apple earphones do not pop out. If this is some sort of technique Apple is using to get me to buy their headphones then forget about it. I love to listen to music so I need my nice headphones. BTW the headphones I am using DO NOT "pop out" of any other audio device I own. In fact I can hang my iPod Touch from them without them coming out or loosing connection. Most audio devices I plug into the MacBook have the same problem, except the Apple branded iPod headphones as I mentioned earlier.

MacBook Pro :: Get Audio To Receiver With Higher Quality Than The Headphone Jack?

Apr 29, 2012

I recently got a receiver and surround sound speaker system.  The quality of the audio from the CD player connected to it is far beyond the quality of the audio that comes from the MacBook pro via headphone jack to RCA connection.  This was confirmed by burning a CD from the MacBook, placing it in the CD player then testing the two against each other  -  the same audio piece from the CD player or the MacBook, both connected to the same receiver/speaker set up.  What other options might get better audio quality from the MacBook to the receiver?
