On every MB I've used since they first came out, you could hook the audio and video up, close the lid, and if it went into sleep mode, the Apple Remote would trigger a "wake up" for mediacenter purposes on a TV/stereo. My SR MB w/ 10.5 doesn't do it. As soon as the lid closes, it's asleep no matter how I toggle the view between screen and external port. Front Row doesn't wake it anymore. Anyone else having this problem? I wanted to find out before calling and asking.
I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).Â
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).Â
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

I upgraded to Lion and sadly, Front Row is not supported. I somehow found the Front Row app in my systems folder and moved it to my Applications folder. Front Row now shows up in my applications folder, as well as Launchpad. However, when I go into Front Row, it does not recognize any of my media from iTunes. I tried out this website: [URL]..blog/frontrowenablerforlion to no avail. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to make Front Row work in OS X Lion.Â
I am wondering that is it essential to connect power adaptor all the time while operating in closed calmshell mode? When I unpluged the cable it didn't work. Is there some way?
Any news of Front Row in Lion? Apple is selling the mac mini without any new interface? Apple really needs to offer us something over front row which I don't think has been updated since 2007. So Apple how about it?
Does front row work with the new MacBook pro with the latest lion software cause on using my apple remote on the laptop it doesn't give me front row option
alright so everything with my late 2008 macbook pro had been fine up until about three weeks ago when it started to randomly crash (while watching movies online and using vuze). so tonight i decided to reset the PRAM since i had seen that as a possible solution on some of the other threads on this issue. did that but now the front power LED doesn't come on when the computer is on. so far no crashes yet but who knows
What do I do if the front camera on my MacBook Pro does not work, but the green light next to the camera is on? I've tried use photo booth, facetime, skype to test the camera, the green light was on, but there is no image. It means my front camera's gone?
I have had some problems for about the past year with the front USB port on my 2009 13in Macbook Pro 5.5.
As you know, there are 2 USB ports on the left side on a 13inch Macbook pro. The one closest to me (the front one) works fine when I use it with a flash drive. But when I connect my external 7200RPM external drive to it, after about a minute, it ejects then re-recognizes the disk.
I video edit with FCP and use the external as one of my scratch disks.
At first I thought maybe it was the cord or the drive that was messed up. But then I connected my other external drive to this port and the same thing happened. But when I connected it to the back USB port, everything works fine. I haven't had any trouble. So i make sure it's connected to that port when using the external.

With external monitor attached, Macbook goes into sleep mode when I close the lid, even when its AC attached. Any idea how to disable that so I can run with lid closed on VGA monitor?
I have a late 2008 unibody macbook connected to a brand new Samsung monitor via a displayport to DVI cable and everything works great until I shut my macbook. The external monitor continues to work fine but my wireless seems to lose connection, my desk is approximately 15 feet from a wireless repeater and Airport appears to have a full signal but it will act as if there is a bad connection until I open my macbook back up and then the internet works fine.
I was talking to a friend and he mentioned that some displayport to DVI cables do not have sufficient shielding therefore interfering with the wireless signal but if that was the issue it should be effecting the wireless signal at all times, not just when the macbook is closed.
I am using my MacBook with the lid closed, mainly as a desktop. I plan to run Handbrake to rip DVDs. It takes hours and fan is on constantly. Will the heat dissipate better with the lid closed or open? The vent seems to be on the back and I can feel the heat venting out with the lid closed.
Cause heat problems? I am using my MBP with the cover closed for space constraints , connected to an external display along with keyboard and the mouse is BT.Over all am I looking at causing damage if I do this for long term.I'm contemplating selling it and downsizing to a Mini.
I just connected my 15" MacBook Pro to an external monitor and purchased a keyboard for my MacBook. I also attach a mouse to my MacBook. When I close the lid completely the MacBook stops displaying on my external monitor. Is there a system preference or something else that I can change to prevent this from happening? I'm hoping to use my MacBook as my desktop too.
I started downloading a trailer on iTunes at my College, then my Calculus professor showed up. So I closed my MBP, and it went into sleep mode. After class, I opened the book back up to notice that the download had finished! Is it possible that it downloaded this while it was asleep? That would be useful during our finals. I could get Portal for steam using the schools internet while taking my tests.
I have the 2011 MacBook pro i7 model. I used My MacBook pro fine saturday morning and closed the lid when i was done like always and put it away, i came back to it later and it won't turn on. I thought maybe the battery died so i connected the charger and that just blinks orange and green. Does anyone have any ideas as to what as happened? Before this happened there was no sign of system failure it was working fine.

I have connected an external monitor to my MacbookPro. I wish to close the lid on the notebook but the display goes out (monitor and notebook) and I am unable to find the setting to keep it on.
My MacBook Air was closed (which I assume means asleep) and in my bag. Today I suddenly heard a weird hum from the bag and realized that the Airport was incredibly hot and blowing all fans full speed. Of course it was inside a padded bag so there was no air to move around and things got very hot. I have no idea how long it was in there but it could have been days (it was attached to charger cable).
1) is it likely to be damaged? any way to know?Â
2) any way to figure out why it woke up while closed? is there a log anywhere of that kind of thing? yesterday we had a power outage; could the Airport being cycled off/on somehow woken it up via wifi??Â
3) how do I prevent it from happening again - how do I shut off any possible options that might lead it to ever wake up while the lid is closed? I heard there's something called Wake on Demand and there is also some mode where people use them (with an external monitor) with the lid closed. I'd like to disable both
I have a mid-09 13" MBP. I just bought a display (dell U2311H), wireless apple kb and magic trackpad, with the intention to use just the external display and kb/trackpad, and stow my MBP away to save some space. Everything works fine when my MBP's lid is open. But once it is closed (or nearly closed), WiFi disconnects. I don't think it has anything to do with my wireless router, but more to do with some MBP setting.
Is there a way to show login screen only when I close the lid of MBP but not when it goes to screen saver mode? So far I only found the setting including both in "Security" section in settings.
So I have a friend with a MBP that puts the wiping cloth that came with the computer over the track pad and keyboard before he closes the screen. I just got my first MBP and starting doing this myself, but not over the keys just folded over the track pad. I do this because easy storage of the wipe...I guess. Anyways, will this cause screen damage, overheating, or anything else that I should know about?
This is my first mac notebook and i'm pretty puzzled on whats going on. First night with my new macbook air 13".. installed basic apps and parallels for a windows vm. I was having issues connecting to my NAS so i rebooted.. appeared to be taking forever to reboot so i closed the lid. An hour later opening the lid.. no response.. power button.. no response.. any ideas what's going on? Is there a way to hard reset it? I tried it on power and on battery with no luck..
edit: of course.. as I post this.. i try once again to press the power button.. it powers up fine.. still curious if this is a common issue..
I have an older MBP (1.83 Intel Core Duo) When I push the power button, I hear a little electric noise, then a fizzle noise. It won't turn on. However, if I close it almost all the way and turn it upside down, it powers up fine. Once it's running, no issues. Any idea where to start with trying to correct this problem? I don't know what part could be making this happen. And yes, it has to be both upside down and almost totally closed.
