MacBook Pro :: Freezes On Startup - Hardware Test Shows Error
Jun 3, 2012
After my MaBook Pro2,1 - Intel Core 2 Duo - 2,33 GHz & 2 GB Memory - with 10.6.8. Freeze on startup every time, only running in "Save Boot" mode. I choose do perform a hardware test with the version 3A116 on a earlier Mac OS Install Disk. The test (3 times) shows an error code (after 1. test I switched memory cards), I am not able to interpret this:

My August 2007 MacBook runs OSX 10.4.10. It has performed flawlessly since my daughter bought it in 2007, and perfectly after I purchased it from her last september. The other night I was surfing the web while flying on a commercial airliner. (GoGoNet or something similar) Performance was kind of slow but I attributed that to the in-air wifi, which I had never used before. Then the browser started to hang with the spinning pinwheel. Option apple escape WOULD NOT force quit safari. After a few shutdowns using only the power button, the mac hung up on startup. I hear the chime, see the apple icon, the gear turns but it never goes past that point. It may be significant that the plane was flying through scary turbulence when my problems began.
When I boot up using the mac install disk 1, I can get it to start cleanly using the C key, the D key and NO keys. But when I run the hardware diagnostic, both short and long test, the mac comes up 100% clean. But i cannot see any test for the hard drive. When I try to run disk utility, the colored pinwheel arrives and it never goes away. When I go down the road of re-installing the system software, I cannot see the target drive.
When I put my ear on the deck, just to the right of the track-pad, I can hear the hard drive quietly spinning away with regular - not random - clicks.
I see that Apple is quietly replacing these hard-drives, but the affected computers seem to have a folder/question mark on the desktop on startup, not the apple/spinning gear.
I really would like to be able to recover my photos and some files if the hard drive is going to be swapped. But I am resigned to the situation that these un-backed-up files will be forever lost.

I got this problem with my MB, it freezes in the startup. I went to the Macstore and asked a technician for help. He said it could be the Mac OS or the harddrive. He said I should try the Apple Hardware Test and see if's anything wrong. I got this error message: 4SNS/1/40000000:TCOD-102.125 I've searched Google with no positive result. Does anyone in here know anything about the error message?

I have a 17" unibody MBP (early 2009, specs below). It was running hotter than usual the other day, so I F2 booted into AHT to run a diagnostic. The status box within AHT showed 1 second into the 1st pass, and never got beyond that. Several seconds after that status message was displayed, the cursor froze. The time counter never advanced after that, and although I waited a long time, nothing happened. The test froze.Â
I've tried it several times more. It once worked, but every other time has frozen. Checking the "extended test" box, or trying to run in loop mode has made no difference - still freezes at "1 second".Â
I've had this machine for 3 years, OS's Leopard through Lion, and this has never happened before. I last ran a test, successfully, in January. I've not changed any components or suffered any damage since then. Memtest (ver 4.22) says my RAM is fine. (I ran this because the first portion of the AHT is the RAM component.) Aside from the aforementioned overheating episode, which disappeared, my machine's been fine.Â

Sorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

I recently bought 2 4GB sticks of RAM that someone recommended on here, the brand is G.SKILL and I got them from newegg.
The thing is, since installing them I have had 2 kernel panics (gray screen of death) that I wasn't having with my 4GB before.
The thing is, I have run Apple Hardware Test and with 8GB I get this error: 4MEM/62/40000000 0x84de1318
So I take out both sticks and stick them in the reverse slots, and I get: 4MEM/65/40000000 0x84e0d318
So I am thinking it must be one of the sticks of ram. So I take them both out and put 1 in the bottom slot, no issues. Stick the other one in, again no issues. So I put one into the top slot to see if maybe a slot has a problem and I once again have no issues when running the extended tests.
So, I decide that maybe I just need to retry putting the ram in again and I get this error, slightly different this time.4MEM/66/40000000 0x84e11318
I really don't know what is going on here, nothing is plugged into the computer, and the RAM modules seem to be fine on their own. I guess for now I am going to stick the Apple RAM back in and see if it throws a similar error.

I have a MAC OS X 10.4.11 IBook G4 1.1. It's acting up on me. Crashes often and freezes as well. The only CD I can find is the Mac OS X Tiger Install DVD. Is this the Hardware test cd as well?
If yes, how do I get the hardware test started. I tried the "restart while holding "C"" and "restart while holding the "option key""... Doesn't work... Don't see a hardware test option. If no, Can I download the application

I have a mid 2007 20" iMac that I just rebuilt with a new 1 TB hard drive and 4GB of ram. Afterwards I upgraded to Yosemity 10.10.1. Today (3 days latter) it froze up, tried everything but had to hold power button in to shutdown. After restarting I tried doing the hardware test thats in my operator's manual holding the "D" key during power up. It was bypassed and opened straight to my desktop. Can I perform a hardware test with the new operating system?

Recently my Mac has been extremely unstable. It keeps freezing up and hanging for no reason. Initially a 3 beep would sound off, I ran some tests like the apple hardware one and realised that one of the rams was bad. I bought 2 new sticks of ram and replaced it. Following which, the mac still freezes up and a 3 beep alarm sounded off again.
Currently, I'm trying to turn it on, no 3 beep signal is sounding off but the Mac either keeps freezing and showing a highly pixelated screen or a black screen surfaces. There is some sound coming off from the laptop as well. Each time I switch on the system, it just shows a black screen with no display.
The Mac is a 15'' 2.66 MHz i7 which was manufactured in the mid 2010s.
The 2 new sticks of ram are Strontium 1066Mhz 4Gb x 2 sticks.
In the initial stages: kernel panics were common as well.

I have an old macbook, its about 5 years old, one of the first aluminum models.
It has always served me well but now it has broken.
When I try and start it up it shows the grey loading screen, I see the little stripes rotating, to show that something is loading and then... it turns off.

Ran the extended test a couple times and got an error result: 4MEM/9/40000006:B:OC:OR:2. Is this telling what my problem part is? Location? I decided to run the test because I've been having startup issues, no startup chime, sometimes no monitor startups, etc. Hence, I keep machine running 24/7, until software updates. From search, it definitely sounds like a stick of memory, but which one. Do I have to pull a pair and run the test each time to find out the culprit? I think I bought from OWC a couple times, and one other time from a another vendro (kingston ram).

So I've been having problems with video in quicktime. I get green dots and other such errors in the video. When I play the same video in VLC I don't get an error. I was told that this is probably the video card, so I ran the hardware test. I got the error code '2ATI/1/4: 113-A13601-120' I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it actually meant, and whether I'll have to buy a new video card, or if there's some other way to fix the problem.

Today I ran AHT version 3A134 on my MacBook Pro Penryn 2.5GHz (early 2008) it came out with error codes:
4MOT/1/40000002: Right side-2893 on 1st extended test result,
4MOT/1/40000002: Right side-3017 on 2nd extended test.
When I initially ran the short test no error code was resulted from the test, only by the extended tests the errors occurred. I have my machine's limited warranty until June 2009. Could you please tell me what are the error codes refer to?
