Software :: Hardware Test Error Codes - Extended Result
Nov 12, 2008
Today I ran AHT version 3A134 on my MacBook Pro Penryn 2.5GHz (early 2008) it came out with error codes:
4MOT/1/40000002: Right side-2893 on 1st extended test result,
4MOT/1/40000002: Right side-3017 on 2nd extended test.
When I initially ran the short test no error code was resulted from the test, only by the extended tests the errors occurred. I have my machine's limited warranty until June 2009. Could you please tell me what are the error codes refer to?

Ran the extended test a couple times and got an error result: 4MEM/9/40000006:B:OC:OR:2. Is this telling what my problem part is? Location? I decided to run the test because I've been having startup issues, no startup chime, sometimes no monitor startups, etc. Hence, I keep machine running 24/7, until software updates. From search, it definitely sounds like a stick of memory, but which one. Do I have to pull a pair and run the test each time to find out the culprit? I think I bought from OWC a couple times, and one other time from a another vendro (kingston ram).

I'm running one on my mid-2009 15" MacBook Pro with 4Gb RAM. It appears to be taking forever as it tests memory. It's been on Pass Number 2 for around 30 minutes now. The progress bar is either completely stalled or moving VERY slowly. Is this normal for the extended AHT? This is the first time I've run the extended test. I ran the quick test just prior to this one and it returned no errors.

So I just recently purchased a Mac mini and I started putting my music all into the computer. I logged into my Apple ID and it works fine, but every time I try to update my apps, I get an error code 5002. I thought to myself, "well, this is a Mac, so I know its not a firewall blocking the internet or anything in particular". So I went ahead and tried updating my iTunes Match account while I Googled for the error code 5002. When I updated iTunes Match, it looked as if it was gathering information when all of a sudden, it stops and gives me an error code -50. It said "Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occured (-50). So then I immediately started to worry. I plugged in my iPhone 4S (for the first time) and decided that once in sync mode, it will just update my apps so I don't have to worry about downloading it on my Mac. Well, that is when I received an error code 1008. It wanted me to authotize my computer and when entered my credentials, it said it couldn't authorize it and when I cancelled the process, it gave me the error code 1008. So... I am stuck in a rut since I've spent almost an entire week trying to figure this out with no solution. I have tried signing out and signing back in and nothing. I also restarted my wireless router and no luck. I can't afford to create a new account since I've always had the same Apple ID and I have a BUNCH of media that I have purchased through iTunes, so creating a new Apple ID is out of the question. I can't sync my iPhone, I can't update iTunes Match, and I can't update my apps. I am currently using the 800 dollar Mac Mini.

I have a Mid 2010 15" Macbook Pro, core i7 processor, 1.5TB HD, and 8GB of RamÂ
In November it started having problems with a gray screen with folder and question mark. I defragged and re-optimized the volumes of the hard drive and everything was fine. I have tried reinstalling both ram chips twice. It worked fine for a few weeks and then I started getting beeps and error codes. I can startup fine but after using for a minute or two the screen freezes and three beeps start. Othertimes a panic code will come up too.Â
I've attached the panic codes in images.
Error Code – panic cpu 2 caller 0xffffff000b2dca29 Â
***Are the Ram chips bad? Or is there an issue with the Logic Board

So I've been having problems with video in quicktime. I get green dots and other such errors in the video. When I play the same video in VLC I don't get an error. I was told that this is probably the video card, so I ran the hardware test. I got the error code '2ATI/1/4: 113-A13601-120' I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it actually meant, and whether I'll have to buy a new video card, or if there's some other way to fix the problem.

I recently bought 2 4GB sticks of RAM that someone recommended on here, the brand is G.SKILL and I got them from newegg.
The thing is, since installing them I have had 2 kernel panics (gray screen of death) that I wasn't having with my 4GB before.
The thing is, I have run Apple Hardware Test and with 8GB I get this error: 4MEM/62/40000000 0x84de1318
So I take out both sticks and stick them in the reverse slots, and I get: 4MEM/65/40000000 0x84e0d318
So I am thinking it must be one of the sticks of ram. So I take them both out and put 1 in the bottom slot, no issues. Stick the other one in, again no issues. So I put one into the top slot to see if maybe a slot has a problem and I once again have no issues when running the extended tests.
So, I decide that maybe I just need to retry putting the ram in again and I get this error, slightly different this time.4MEM/66/40000000 0x84e11318
I really don't know what is going on here, nothing is plugged into the computer, and the RAM modules seem to be fine on their own. I guess for now I am going to stick the Apple RAM back in and see if it throws a similar error.

My son's 17" imac PPC G5 was not booting up. After a trying a couple of things I got it to boot using Disk Warrior and reparing the file directory. At that time I also ran DW's hardware test which said the drive was fine. My son hard restarted it shortly after I fixed it and it wouldn't start up again. Just a gray screen, no apple logo. When I tried to use DW again it told me there were problems with the hard drive and it couldn't fix the problem. I tried to fix the hard drive in target disk mode using Disk Utiltiy and Drive Genius. No luck. So I pulled a working drive out of my Mac Pro and reformatted it and swapped the internal drive of the iMac with it. There were no DIP switches to set. Started up the imac with a Leopard retail disk thinking I would just install a fresh system onto the replaced internal drive of the iMac. Disk Utility on the leopard disk didn't see the hard drive. Now I'm beginning to think it's a logic board problem but I can't find the original disks to do a Hardware test with. Is there some other way to test a logic board? Or some other idea that I'm not thinking of that could be wrong with the machine?

I have an Apple Power Mac G5 Dual Processor model M9747LL/A (Early 2005) which fails the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) v2.5 with the Logic Board error code "2SVM/1/2: CPU B AD74717 AD3". This appears to be a problem with the thermal module voltmeter sensor for CPU B. The problem is, this machine is working just fine. The fans don't run abnormally and everything works. It could be that this failure is real and will eventually lead to other failures later, but I did find another thread in this forum where a user of the same system that had the exact same problem that turned to be a bad copy of the Apple Hardware Test DVD:
[URL] This user was given another copy of AHT that worked fine. I have already reset the NVRAM, PRAM and SMU -- all with no effect. Like the instructions on AHT said, I have removed all peripherals and run the test again, also with no effect. This machine is not under AppleCare and Apple was not all that helpful on the phone. They referred me to an Apple store, where I was told that replacing the CPU would cost "$500 or $600 plus labor", but they did not even write down the error code or check anything specific to my machine.
Does anyone know if there is some way to confirm this is an actual hardware error, as opposed to just some problem with the version of AHT I have?

Recently, my daughter experienced massive Finder problems (continual spinning beachball with freezes, Force Quit unresponsive) on her iMac (Intel Dual Core 2008 Model). Eventually, she got nothing but a flashing question-mark on a restart. Before reinstalling system software, I ran an Apple Hardware Test and it reported "No Problems". Disk Utility reported "Volume OK". Archive and install failed twice. I was able to retrieve and copy her home folder slaving the sick iMac to my operating G5 using Target Disk Mode. Following that, I did a complete erase and install of the OS.
However, AFTER reinstalling the OS, I ran Hardware Test again and it reported the following error "4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1330". I suspect this may mean that her 1GB ram chip is going bad, but I am not sure. Does anyone know what this error means?

if you recall a thread I started trying to get help on why the Mac Pro was crashing... I finally narrowed it down. After speaking to about 4 different people at apple.... they had me run the Apple Hardware Test off the boot CD.I took out EVERYTHING except the 2nd DVD burner (Apple Branded Superdrive from my old 2.5 Dual G5)... and ran the test. The Hardware Test ACTUALLY FROZE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAM TEST.I thought I had bad aftermarket ram... as it wasn't playing nice with the Apple ram when I added them together.Looks like I had fine aftermarket ram... the Apple ram was bad.I REPLACED the Apple Ram with the Aftermarket Ram... and the Hardware Test completed fine. So, now I'm going to be calling them again in the morning and letting them know what happened. I wonder if they'll just let me RMA the bad ram, or if I'm going to have to lug this dang thing down to an apple store.I WONT BE HAPPY IF I HAVE TO DO THAT.Oh, and no more lockups since switching out the ram... and all the other quirks (not able to burn CDs in Windows, sloooow Internet page draws, etc...) are all but gone now.

I have a 17" unibody MBP (early 2009, specs below). It was running hotter than usual the other day, so I F2 booted into AHT to run a diagnostic. The status box within AHT showed 1 second into the 1st pass, and never got beyond that. Several seconds after that status message was displayed, the cursor froze. The time counter never advanced after that, and although I waited a long time, nothing happened. The test froze.Â
I've tried it several times more. It once worked, but every other time has frozen. Checking the "extended test" box, or trying to run in loop mode has made no difference - still freezes at "1 second".Â
I've had this machine for 3 years, OS's Leopard through Lion, and this has never happened before. I last ran a test, successfully, in January. I've not changed any components or suffered any damage since then. Memtest (ver 4.22) says my RAM is fine. (I ran this because the first portion of the AHT is the RAM component.) Aside from the aforementioned overheating episode, which disappeared, my machine's been fine.Â

Well, I use Spotlight religiously on a daily, hourly, maybe minute basis. I have a ton of organized folders under my Documents and when I search for any of those folders in spotlight no results are yielded. Not even if the whole folder is typed out, or even just partial. I tried typing in many different folder names I have but nothing.
Then I tried typing in spotlight the names of Pages files, Excel Files, Word, etc...you name it. But nothing.

I need to have a question answered about searching in spotlight. Whenever I search for anything, I find what I need but after I open the "app/filename". Spotlight continues searching and it will continue to search until I "x-out" of the search field. Is this how spotlight works or can the search be turned off after selected a search result?
