MacBook Pro :: Fastest Way To Get Retina
Jun 18, 2012
I finally got my graduation money to buy the macbook pro I want. It's the low end pro, 2.3ghz with retina display. ($2200) I checked online and they say there is a 3-4 week before the item even gets shipped. I also tried calling me local apple store twice and got 2 different responses, the first one said they got a shipment earlier today but they quickly sold out nearly an hour later, and the second specialist told me I should just order it online.

How do software that aren't retina compatible yet look on the MBP Retina Display? From my own experience as a developer when using regular sized images and resolutions on the iPhone 4, they come out as blurry. I was thinking perhaps the same thing will occur if the software isn't retina compatible? I e 2x in GUI size and scaled down?

I had decided to get a retina MacBook Pro earlier, but I have grown tired of never finding them in the stores. Now I am wondering if the non retina would be the best way to go.

The 11inch air only has 128GB and i'm getting short on space. Since the mb air only has 2 usb ports and no firewire or ethernet ports I'm stuck with the bandwidth of USB 2.0.
I need 1 or 2 HD's for my audio and video editing so they need to be fast but it couldn't hurt if it looked nice and fits in my back pocket.Any recently Flash drives out there which is worth to take a look at?

I've got two great compact flash readers, but one has firewire, and the other has the wrong usb connector... so they are stuck with the mac pro. Anyone has any idea of the fastest usb card reader? I'm not a fan of waiting for 4 gig cards to unload.. back to back.... Don't make me use my mbp.

I know this comes up a lot but I couldn't find any recent ones that fitted my criteria. Basically I was just wondering what the fastest 500GB hard drive is for a 15inch MBP?? I've heard that the WD scorpio blue is pretty fast but I didn't know if it was THE fastest.

I'm currently using a MBP 2.33Ghz with 3gb of ram. What I want to know is how much faster are the latest machines, I find Aperture slow to load images and Photoshop can be slow to apply filters at times.I'll be waiting for the announcement but how does my machine compare to the current fastest MBP's?

how's the stock drive that comes standard with the laptop? should I even think about spending money upgrading the stock drive to a bigger capacity from the online apple store upon checkout, or should i save it for a third party install?I read somewhere that the WD 500GB scorpio blue 5400rpm beats the Seagate even though the Seagate runs at 7200rpm. True? Any mechanical drive faster than the above two (and I mean one within the reach of the typical consumer, not some new fangled prototype running at 15k rpm)?

I'm wondering about the fastest way to share files (some of them large video files) between two Macs. One is a Mac Pro, the other a MacBook Pro.

Ok I've looked around the net and the fastest dual G4 I see is a 1.8 GHZ upgrade to the 7447 chip that has 512KB of L2. I've seen a single 2.0GHZ g4 updrade but will we ever see a dual 2 GHZ g4? More importantly is freescale or whoever owns the chips now are going to make faster G4s for those still not willing to let go of their g4s (myself included going strong after 4 years) I would like to hold on to my dual 1.25GHZ longer but a 2HZ+ dual G4 seems promising for Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.

I have around 10 RSS feeds, and have NewsFire set to update every 5 minutes, and it didn't seem to want to update all the RSS feeds. So I just cut it back to like every 30 minutes, and it still doesn't seem like it updates. Like it'll alert me with one update in about 2 hours, and then when I manually update it, like 20 things pop up!
I checked each site and they are all updating on the same time slot, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Is just 10 RSS feeds too many? That would seem weird to me...

I need a new external drive for my macbook pro. I need 1.5TB of capacity and found the Seagate FreeAgent Desk. But I am not sure if I should go with the Mac version which features a firewire 800 connection. Is it that much faster? And will the usb 2.0 interface be enough for 1080p playback?

Looking for something that can expand all rars in one click. Like you highlight all the folders and expand them into one folder so that they can be unrared easily? Does something like this exist? Right now i'm using rar expander and i have to select each file manually and it takes forever!

Whenever I run Software Update and download something (or from iTunes), files pretty much download twice as fast as anything else I download. I'm on cable and I get around 1.5 MBs/second for Apple downloads, and I usually get around 500kbs-900kbs for everything else. Has anyone else noticed something similar?

Since I updated to Leopard, some of my video and slideshow programs are lagging on screen. I have done a pretty good search on the forums here, but am getting some contradicting info. What is the fastest video card for my early 2005 G5 dual 2.0 with AGP 8x slot? ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra (what is the difference between the NVIDIA and the BFG cards?) I have an ATI Radeon 9650 with 256MB one single link and one dual link DVI. The ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition has one ADC and one dual link DVI? Do both of those ports support a 30" Cinema HD display? My 9650 only supports one and it is in the 2nd port so it is annoying having my 23" be my main monitor and the 30" be the secondary.
Information:
G5 Dual 2.0 (early 2005) 3GB RAM ATI Radeon 9650 30" and 23" Cinema HD, Macbook Pro 2 GB RAM
Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Looking to encode all my video DVDs etc, for my library. I have an Apple TV, PS3, iMac (2Ghz Core 2 Duo) and iPhone. I have been using Handbrake which is great, use the Apple TV preset which plays on all the devices listed I have. However I'm just wondering if there is a paid for, or free program that is faster or better in any respect for converting? I know H264 is CPU intensive, so is Handbrake going to be the best and fastest anyway?

I'm planning for the next tower and I'd like to have my applications launching as quickly as possible. What is the consensus on this? It seems like some form of RAID would be ideal, but from what I recall, this is not necessarily true for app launching, yes? Also, what about SAS versus SATA? 15,000 versus 10,000 or 7,200 RPM? It seems like the easy call would be to make a RAID out of 15,000 drives, but is this really worth it for app launching? I'm not looking to shave a second or two off launch times, I'm looking to blow it out of the water. I'm sick and tired of CS3 apps taking forever and a day to launch.

My brother and I share folders and various file types through ichat at the moment, but it's so slow, we are both on pretty fast networks (35/35MB and 50/8MB) I can mount a folder of his on my mac (we are in seperate towns) by putting our apple ID's into the apple extreme section (I think back to my mac) and we can share files that way, but I am confused as to why the transfer rates are so slow, we get at best 32KBs. Any recommendations for a faster file transfer method between remote macs.

It seems you can't upgrade the memory after purchase on the new MBP w/ retina display.
SO my question is, is it worth the $180 extra to get 16GB of ram rather than 8GB??
