I've got two great compact flash readers, but one has firewire, and the other has the wrong usb connector... so they are stuck with the mac pro. Anyone has any idea of the fastest usb card reader? I'm not a fan of waiting for 4 gig cards to unload.. back to back.... Don't make me use my mbp.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have around 10 RSS feeds, and have NewsFire set to update every 5 minutes, and it didn't seem to want to update all the RSS feeds. So I just cut it back to like every 30 minutes, and it still doesn't seem like it updates. Like it'll alert me with one update in about 2 hours, and then when I manually update it, like 20 things pop up!
I checked each site and they are all updating on the same time slot, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Is just 10 RSS feeds too many? That would seem weird to me...
I have know you can put compact flash cards in older laptops that use IDE, Could I get one that has 2 slots and rads the cards for a regular ide card?

View 1 Replies View RelatedTried zapping PRAM and resetting SMC. 3 different cards, 3 different readers with same non-read. Same readers are OK with SD. All 3 readers with all 3 cards read ok on PC. 1 out of 10 times Disk Util sees it, but can't repair. Tried to reformat with Disk Util - 'can't write last block'.

I just purchased a new 15" MacBookPro, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB memory and using OS X 10.9.4
I have a SanDisk Compact Flash disk with MXF files on it from my Canon XF 100.
I have had no problem importing the files onto my MacPro. using a Ultra Card reader with USB2
But now I am using a Transcen USB3 Card reader on my new MacBookPro and it does not recognize any of those same files to import.
I get the message, "No importable files selected."
The only difference I can see between the old MacPro and new MacBookPro is that when I select "Import Media" the CANON XF drive shows up as a DEVICE on the MacBookPro instead of a CAMERA like it does on the MacPro.
I have a single processor G5 1.8 running current version of Tiger 10.4.11. I take pictures on my Canon 1D ll and also on a Canon power shot pro 1. When I tried to copy files from my compact flash card to my G5, it corrupted most of the files. When I pull them up, half of the image is distorted or discolored. I am using a cheap non-powered USB 2.0 card reader attached to the high speed USB ports. I have tried all of the ports. My other devices, Keyboard, printer, scanner (all self powered) work fine on the USB ports. I can do the same hookup on my G4 Ibook and it works fine with no problems. I also tried importing directly from the camera into I-photo and had the same problem on the G5.

I have a two year old Mac Pro ( 2GB memory and 2GB RAM) which up until now has worked very well, extremely well really. Alas for some inexplicable reason it has decided to takes it's time coming out of the starting gate. It has gone from around 15 seconds to around 5 minutes. So far I have eliminated apps which I have not been using as well as a few startup items that I didn't really need.I have cleaned up my desktop so that there is only one Icon on it.
I have also de-fragged my startup drive.I have used Disk Utility which tells me that the disc is fine, and it seems to be working just fine when it is up and running. I have also unplugged my firewire and USB connections. I have run my cron scripts deleted all rotated log files and repaired disc permissions. Maybe I didn't need to, but heck, who knows, I am no expert. Maybe a reinstall may solve the problem or resetting the Pram may work. I don't really know for sure but I'll try anything just in case.
Do I need adobe reader & flash player with Lyon?

I'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.
I was looking for a Safari Reader-like add-on for Firefox and finally stumbled on Firefox Reader, which seems to have more customizations, and options. Has anyone else tried it? What are your impressions?

I finally got my graduation money to buy the macbook pro I want. It's the low end pro, 2.3ghz with retina display. ($2200) I checked online and they say there is a 3-4 week before the item even gets shipped. I also tried calling me local apple store twice and got 2 different responses, the first one said they got a shipment earlier today but they quickly sold out nearly an hour later, and the second specialist told me I should just order it online.

I just tried NetNewsWire, and Vienna, NNW is nice but Google Reader has a great feature that these both are without.
In GReader, when I mouse over or scroll down it marks that one article as read. No pushing buttons, clicking next, nothing. Just read.
I want to be able to pre-download all of my current unread items, AND the pictures. Gears for GReader does NOT download the pictures. I have a lot of picture only feeds, like lolcats, that I would like to let build up for a week and then on my long plane ride home, check out.
In NNW I can smash the space bar and get this accomplished, but I'd rather just scroll through, or at least have the option to.
I don't really like the look of Vienna, it's too unpolished, NNW is a tad better and has better options for like the prefs.
It would also be interesting to be able to give specific instructions, or adjust certain settings on a per-feed basis. Such as filter out cartain keywords (Without using a service such as feedrinse).
I hat vienna because once I click on a feed, it marks everything as read. That's bad for me as I sometimes just open a mega feed and read one or two items. I have maby 20 or 30 feeds, but usually get 2-300 new items a day. Most are junk like Joystick, but I like to sit down and go through the important ones while im taking a break or eating lol.
I know you can't but it'd be interesting to allow some feeds to auto queue an embedded movie, let me view it offline (or off my VPN.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am generally unimpressed with iLife 09 and I would like a refund, but I feel I also have to say a bit more. when connecting my Canon 820 IS, the photos get imported however when I select "Do not delete photos" iPhoto ignores this and deletes them from the camera. The database does not auto-compact even after removing imported photos - is of a monolithic size and is sucking the space from my time machine. As for the Places element - My preferences indicate this - we invented history and placenames - why on Earth would I want to see London, Arkansas as the first option - In fact I wager that millions-more people have seen London, England, UK than London, Arkansas. As for entering in the information for non-GPS chipped cameras - well that is simply a massive pain the in the hole. Your concept of event/location is hosed here. I want to mark on the map venues, in fact I can pinpoint on the map where something took place - but unless the god of Google maps has decided it exists, it seems everything taken within 20 miles of London, England, UK is in the same place. Canary Wharf was apparently in Hertfordshire. meh, I thought it's a beta and will oh hang on, no, it's a full product which cost me 85 quid.....

I've seen a single 2.0GHZ g4 updrade but will we ever see a dual 2 GHZ g4? More importantly is freescale or whoever owns the chips now are going to make faster G4s for those still not willing to let go of their g4s (myself included going strong after 4 years) I would like to hold on to my dual 1.25GHZ longer but a 2HZ+ dual G4 seems promising for Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.

I'm on cable and I get around 1.5 MBs/second for Apple downloads, and I usually get around 500kbs-900kbs for everything else. Has anyone else noticed something similar?
