View 6 RepliesI know there are a ton of products out there which help to 'increase' your download speed. I am looking for an application that can control the download/upload speed.. slow it down or increase it.
Also, is it possible to slow down the download rate.. but keep the upload rate the same? Tried looking for products which can achieve this but can't seem to find any.
I have a MacPro and a newer iMac in my office. When I do speedtest.net from my MacPro, I get 3-4Mbs download usually, sometimes <1Mb download and sometimes 10-20 Mbs download. My wifes iMac consistently gets 15-25Mbs download and faster uploads. It doesn't matter what browser I use to test the computers speeds, she has a consistently blazing fast and mine sucks.
Of course, she doesn't have a lot of applications on hers, because the bulk of the work is done on my MacPro. Is there some pref files that I can delete or other resolutions?
I'm downloading a movie on iTunes... and it's taking forever. Is this normal? I mean I may not have the fastest connection, but it's still DSL. experienced some slow downloads?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just started to use 10mbps instead of my old 1mbps. But it looks like I'm having some issues. First of all I'm using the port 27960 for bitTorrent and it is properly forwarded. (I have a Tilgin modem, it was really hard to forward). I was using uTorrent app with my 1mbps internet and it was doing fine. I was able to download at full speed (100kB/s). But when I changed my ISP things started to change.
The Test:
-I'm downloading 5 of the most popular torrent files. My friends with the same ISP as me can download these torrents 2MB/s at their homes.
-I'm using Vuze, uTorrent and Transmission as the torrent app.
On all applications my Port seems to be open. I have green light.
On Vuze;
-It is a little complicated for me. And it hangs usually. So I'm not using it.
On uTorrent;
-My download speeds up to max 250-300kB/s (Total download, not per torrent.)
On Transmission;
-Well, this is the strangest. My download speed goes up to 700kB/s. But it goes like 5kB/s, 15kB/s, 3kB/s, 1kB/s, 400kB/s, 600kB/s, 3kB/s. Slowest speed for a second and highest for another. It doesn't stand still. It goes up and down continuously.
So I had a phone call to my ISP and they said there is no problem with the lines. Than, I tested with "speedtest.net" and "speakeasy.net/speedtest/". All turned out perfect! (9.7mbps to 10.1mbps) Than I tested real download speed with Firefox.[URL] It is downloading with 980kB/s. Perfect again. But when it comes to torrents, something goes wrong. I'm not using any antivirus or firewall.
Im here on a mission to find out why my macbook running snow leopard will only give me bang on 20mb download when every other windows machine in my house is giving me 50mb. I have tried to do a bit of google searching but don't seem to be getting anywhere. I assume it must be the macbook and not any router settings etc?

I'm beginning to wonder if Apple put a lousy Airport card in the new MBA. No matter what the wifi hotspot, I get downloads of 2MB. I just bought a new Airport Extreme at home and I really thought the MBA would be faster.
Am I missing something here? Do I have to "match up" the MBA with my Extreme to use the fast "N" connection? Or is there some network setting to tweak on the new MBA?
I have the 27" inch quad core i7 imac I just got a few days ago. Some reason for certain things like d/ling the vlc players its taking a few minutes to d/l a 24 meg file. With this type of computer, it should take like 3 seconds to d/l a small file like that. I have a fast internet connection, don't understand why that's happening.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have verizon dsl and live out about as far as you can and still get dsl.
the problem im having has just been since i got my new imac. it will start downloading around 85-90 kb then just slows and slows consistently and gets around 10 kb. sometimes if i stop then resume the download it will start back up at the faster speed but then slows again. sometimes if i stop it, it cant resume for some reason.
is this my isp problem or is it something with my computer or settings?
I download a lot of things and like high speeds, especially when I should be getting them.
The majority of the time my MacBook Pro downloads at about 1.7-1.8mb/s (as I have a 15MB/s internet service) which is terrific! I sit up in my room, a floor higher than the router and download away at great speeds.
But, if I go to download something on the Mini (and this only seems to be happening lately, oddly enough) it barely ever hits 1mb/s, is normally at 400-500kb/s and drops to as low as 90kb/s sometimes!
What can be done about this?
i have newish MBP and iMac. I also run several windows 7 based pc's. Over the last couple of weeks the download speed on both mac's has declined badly. Trying to download drivers for an HP printer yesterday and was downloading at around 25kbps on both macs, ended up downloading on windows pc at around 800kbps instead, same with any other downloads, was getting over 1.2mbps on windows last night whilst my macs struggle toexceed 30kbps making them almost unusale. I am a relative newcomer to apple, love build quality and feel but am nor too happy with this situation, have tried using different internet connections too - tethering to my cell, same result - 2 different machines so it seems to me the issue sits somewhere within Lion.Â

I have a Samsung external drive from which I can play and view these small discs that are not compatable with iMac. I need to upload from these discs to a New Project or a New Event in iMovie. I cannot figure a way to upload for editing and produce a finished movie. My iMac forced me to get a Canon HF-R100 camcorder with an SD card for the iMac SD slot.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!
View 4 Replies View RelatedOut of no where, I can no longer download or upload anything utilizing Transmission or BitTorrent clients. Also, I decided to try the mail.app and it will not connect to either of my email servers (which are fine, setup just fine on other computers). Also, I tried thunderbird thinking it was a mail.app problem, but won't work there either. I thought perhaps I needed to check my airport extreme, but the utility app can not find it? Something surely is odd. I do have little snitch installed, but looks to be OK, but perhaps I'm missing a setting. Leopard 10.5.8.

I have around 10 RSS feeds, and have NewsFire set to update every 5 minutes, and it didn't seem to want to update all the RSS feeds. So I just cut it back to like every 30 minutes, and it still doesn't seem like it updates. Like it'll alert me with one update in about 2 hours, and then when I manually update it, like 20 things pop up!
I checked each site and they are all updating on the same time slot, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Is just 10 RSS feeds too many? That would seem weird to me...
After searching around on these forums, google and versiontracker, I still cannot find what I'm looking for. I found many network monitoring tools, but none of them did what I wanted it to do. I would like to find a program that simply shows how many MB/GB of upload/download I have used. The programs I was finding showed me the current amount of data being transferred and other information that is useless to me.

I find it slow to edit data in iTunes (e.g., changing to last name first, filling in data when missing from old CDs). This would be very easy to type, copy/paste, copy down, etc. in Excel. Is there a fast way to edit data in iTunes? (faster than clicking on a song, waiting for it to know you're changing data, typing the data and not being able to copy/paste)

The popular ones now (as i noticed) are :-
Xtorrent

Looking to encode all my video DVDs etc, for my library. I have an Apple TV, PS3, iMac (2Ghz Core 2 Duo) and iPhone. I have been using Handbrake which is great, use the Apple TV preset which plays on all the devices listed I have. However I'm just wondering if there is a paid for, or free program that is faster or better in any respect for converting? I know H264 is CPU intensive, so is Handbrake going to be the best and fastest anyway?

My nephew once told me he puts his PC off when he goes to school for example, because it would be better for his pc.
Does this count for...
- My PowerBook, running on cable (not battery, whatever)?
- My (to buy) 24'' iMac?
Reason is I sometimes want to leave my stuff on to upload or download stuff...
Does anyone know any really good Facebook photo upload applications? Perhaps something similar to the Flickr photo upload application?
