MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Dynamic DHCP Not Working On Mid-2010 With 10.7.3

May 14, 2012

Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.3, my mid-2010 cannot connect to to internet via Ethernet any more (wireless works fine).

Basically, the Network utility GUI shows that a correct IP address has been assigned via DHCP, but I get no internet.

If I now check the output of 'ifconfig', I see 'en0' having a local IP address assigned, i.e. 192.168.1.1 or similar.

Seems like a software bug of some sort. Is it getting fixed in 10.7.4?

I bought the USB Ethernet Adapter for MacBook Air, and it's plugged in, but still the ethernet wire doesn't seem to get any contact.I can see the USB adapter in setting for network, so it seems to to be connecter with my Air.THe other thing is that my friend bought himself a Laptop PC, and he used the SAME ethernet wire, and it worked right away.

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Is Not Working?

Aug 29, 2014

Im in my college dorm room and instead of wifi you're able to connect by using an ethernet cable.

Now the problem is when i open safari, the type in a website and it only loads about 20% of the way and then stops.

The ethernet usually works but for some reason today it doesn't work.

Its funny because my room mate on the other side of the room is using his ethernet no problem

MacBook Pro :: Internet Over Ethernet Is Not Working

Jun 6, 2012

I usually have all my computers, mac or pc, connected over Ethernet and only use Wifi for phones and guests. A while ago i started not to be able to connect to the internet anymore, although i hadn't changed anything on the mac or my router. I tired all possible troubleshooting routines to get to the bottom of it but with no success. Reset network ports in System prefs, Cocktail maintenance, Repairing disk and permissions booted from recovery partition, deleted SystemConfig files, reset the router to factory settings and reconfiguring, checked DHCP settings for ip conflicts, just nothing works.

I can connect to the internet over wifi without problems on the Macbook Pro.I can connect over ethernet to all other shared devices and computers on my network. When i run the Network Diagnostics with Ethernet as primary interface all lights are green and it says my connections are working but i cannot connect to any internet address, all pings time out with any port or protocol (ftp, mail, http, ssh)Other PC's and Macs can connect over ethernet to the internet without problems using the same cable.

MacBook Pro :: Dynamic Switching Broken After EFI Update

Sep 17, 2010

So I did the EFI firmware update and now my dynamic switching is broken. I cannot watch any video on the internet in fullscreen that has a 480p or lower resolution. Whenever I switch to fullscreen, the video becomes extremely choppy. This, of course, happens because the graphics card does not switch from Intel to nVidia. I'm on a 17'' Core i7 Macbook Pro.

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Port Broken - Safari / Chrome Not Working?

Sep 4, 2010

I just got to college and discovered that wifi didnt work (now I've learned that it only works with Firefox for whatever reason) so I just plugged into the ethernet port at my desk and it worked for a week or so and then it wouldn't work and I checked Network settings and it couldn't detect an ethernet cable. So I reset the PRAM and it worked... for a few hours, and now it doesn't. I don't want to have to do that every time I come back to my desk. What should I do about this? (and any suggestions on safari/chrome not working? I posted it in another subforum on here but I got nowhere)

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Port Stops Working On Location Change?

Apr 11, 2012

I seem to have a problem with my ethernet port not working after a specific location change...I have three locations I used frequently. Let's call them:

1) HomeWireless

2) WorkWireless (used when I'm in meetings)

3) WorkEthernet (used when I'm at my desk)

My general practice is to change locations just before putting my MacBook Pro to sleep, and then it is happily ready for the desired network when it is awoken.I'm not sure what this change in behavior coincided with, but as of ~1 month ago, I am finding that going from WorkWireless to WorkEthernet, my ethernet port appears to be completely dead and I have to reboot the computer to reactivate it (yes, I've checked the cable itself and the wall port at they're OK). I've tried a couple ways of disabling & re-enabling it in software, but I don't get the impression anything actually resets this interface - suggestions are welcome as perhaps I just didn't try the right thing. I couldn't find anything quite the same as "networksetup -setairportpower" for the ethernet port.Oddly, this is not an issue with going from HomeWireless to WorkEthernet. Both HomeWirelss and WorkWireless have the ethernet interface deactivated in the Network pref pane, and perhaps the only notable difference between HomeWirelss and WorkWireless is that I use a static IP on the former and dynamic on the latter.

MacBook Air :: Unable To Get IP Address From DHCP Server

Jan 9, 2011

I've recently purchased my first Mac (the new 13.3 inch air model). I seem to be having a bit of a problem with wireless networking, though. It seems that my Mac will reconnect to my wireless network perfectly after resuming from sleep mode just fine for a few days, but after those few days, it will mysteriously stop being able to get an IP address from the DHCP server (my wireless router). My PC is able to connect to the network just fine and always seems to be able to get a new address, but the Mac just loses the ability. I have found that the only way I can get the Mac to start grabbing an IP address from the router is by going into the router settings and changing the RIP mode to a value other than what it currently shows. I generally try to stay in RIP_2B mode, but I change it to some other random value whenever it stops connecting.

MacBook :: Using Wireless Shenanigans - Changing Back To Dhcp?

Jul 28, 2009

I recently got a white macbook while i am deployed in iraq, and our wireless signal here kinda blows, but at least it works. The only issue i have, seems to be that when i am connected to an access point, my macbook will randomly loose signal, and i end up having to go into the airport preferences, change from DHCP to BOOTp, and it will refresh, then come back on. If it looses signal again, i just change it back to DHCP, and then it works again.

OS X :: Possible To Create Dynamic Background?

If anyone has a Playstation 3, you'll know what I'm talking about. I think they're mostly made in Java Applet. Slow moving backgrounds that can change color by the time of day or year. Hardware :: AirPort And Ethernet Not Working Together Anymore?

I have shared my internet connection to my PC via ethernet many times (so my PC get the internet connection from a ethernet cable plugged into my MacBook which shares it's connection via AirPort).

Now suddenly it doesn't work, when I plug in the ethernet cable to my MacBook the internet connection dies whenever the ethernet connection starts working... I'm still connected to the wireless network, but can't use internet...

So the connection to internet dies whenever I try to share it to my PC from my Mac... Anybody know how to fix this?

Mac Mini :: Ethernet Port Seems To Have Stopped Working?

Apr 16, 2010

I've been having an annoying problem lately. The ethernet port on my Mac Mini seems to have stopped working. It happened when I was switching routers. Most likely I just unplugged it from the old router, and into the new one. After that, no more connection, nothing changes when I plug something in.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I've plugged it into other ports, and into my MacBook Air (Just to get a Self assigned IP) and nothing works. I know these ports work with my other computers. I've reset the SMC and PRAM.It works in bootcamp so this makes me think it's not hardware. Any other suggestions?

IMac PPC :: Ethernet Is Not Working / Safari Will Not Connect

Apr 7, 2012

On April 2nd I downloaded mail from my ISP mail server using Mac Mail. A couple of days later while downloading mail in Mac Mail all I get are the circles with the triangle. Safari will not connect. I worked with my ISP yesterday, and they think I have a bad cable(s). Today I connected a known good Ethernet cable from the computer to the DSL modem with the same results of no connection with Safari. I am therefore thinking something is wrong with the built in Ethernet. In an iMac PPC G4 flat screen, is Ethernet on a card or part of a chip? Any idea on the cost to fix the problem? There is an Apple Store close to where I live. Once all the cables are reconnected Wi-Fi does work. This leads me to believe that the problem is in the computer, and not the cables.

MacBook Air :: 2010 From 13" 2010 And IPad Owner's Point Of View

Oct 26, 2010

I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.

If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.

PowerPC :: One Ethernet Port / Internet Sharing Not Working

I'm renting a house for the week with several friends, and there's only one ethernet port. I figured I could plug one friend's Powerbook G4 into the ethernet, go into Sharing, turn on Internet Sharing, and then nearby computers could borrow the connection - this isn't working. The network doesn't even display on my other friend's powerbook. The little upwards arrow does not display ontop of the airport icon in the menubar, which I think it's supposed to, what's going wrong? MacBook Pro :: Worth Buying 13" 2010 Or MB 2010 Better?

Apr 15, 2010

I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.

It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?

PowerPC :: Ethernet Not Working Properly - Randomly Connects / Disconnects

Oct 11, 2006

I've been having problems staying connected on my Powerbook G4. The wireless works perfectly but the ethernet does not. I've been using the dorm ethernet jack to connect. The problem is that my computer can't maintain a consistent connection through ethernet so it randomly connects and disconnects. I called my campus' IT department and they told me that it must be my computer because they're system said that it didn't detect my computers IP address. I called Applecare and the person told me that it must be something wrong with either the network card or the ethernet port. Anyway, he gives me a case number so I can go get a repair. Unfortunately an Apple Store is far away from where my school is so I went to my school's bookstore instead.

The bookstore is an authorized service place. I drop the computer off to them and they sent it to Apple. I got a call today from the bookstore guy saying that the Apple technicians discovered that "liquid" had gotten into the motherboard and refused to service my computer. I was really angry when I heard this because I keep absolute care of my laptop. I know for a fact that no water has ever been around my laptop. I'm guessing it must have been negligence on the bookstore's part. I declined the $1300+ repair estimate so now its on its way back to me. I have a brother that works at the Apple Store and he just suggested going directly to an Apple Store this time. Will they just refuse warranty repair again?

Since the OSX 10.7.3 upgrade from February 3rd 2012, they all have the same problem. Mac Pro :: Vista Business Not Installing On Dynamic (RAID0) Drive Volume

Aug 11, 2009

I have successfully striped two SSDs in Vista Business-64 on my MacPro1,1. I have used Vista's data carrier administration program for this. As expected the array isn't recognized in OS X. So I cannot just dump a Winclone image on the array. That would have been much to nice!

My next strategy was a total backup with Vista's own backup program on another HDD. That went without a hitch. I then hoped that booting the Vista install DVD with the backup drive present and the RAID0 array would allow me to restore the backup on the RAID array. Unfortunately Vista will not recognize the array running of the install DVD. Loading AHCI or IMSM drivers will not change this situation.

It appears that you have to make the dynamic data carrier active if you want to install Vista on it. Unfortunately the data carrier admin program will not let me do this. I would do it in DISKPART if I knew it was possible and how to do it.

So the question is does anybody know how to install Vista Business to a dynamic data carrier? If I cannot figure out this soft RAID0 I will ave to buy a RAID controller which I thought I might avoid at this point.
