Intel Mac :: Camera Won't Work In Skype
Upgraded to Lion and now Skype won't recognise the imac camera. "Built in isight" is listed in the video prefrences but the test screen is blank. The Skype calls show a video icon with a cross through it and when I click it it blinks, then stays crossed off.

Camera works in facetime and photobooth (both apps closed down). Have restarted Skype but no change. Skype ok with Macbook Air, iPhone and iPad.

MacBook Air :: Camera Does Not Work On Latest Version Of Skype
I have a new air book with Lion version 10.7. 3. Skype was working fine but when I called yesterday my camera is not working. I can hear and see my caller and he can hear me but no picture of me.

When I check Skype preferences there is no picture from the camera, yet the little green light is on by the camera. I have reloaded the latest version of skype but still no visuals.

Software :: Tried To Use The Internet And Skype, But The Skype Didn't Work At All?
I have reached this website after scrawling to find a solution on the internet. I hope someone can help me with this problem.I have a 4 years old G4 ibook (OS 10.3.7), and have been using it for internet, skype and foto-storage mainly.Situtation:Yesterday I tried to use the internet (Firefox browser) and skype, but the skype didn't work at all. Since firefox was not working properly either, I did force quit and restarted the computer. I attempted this several times until I could use both applications (never had any problems before). However, Skype didn't work, and in the end, I could not quit firefox at all. At last I did force quit again, and saw white screen with apple icon at the centre when restarting. No time-spinning mark, the apple just sits there.

Troubleshooting that I have done:
I called up support center, and they told me that it's very likey that the computer is stopping at "'carnel" stage (I'm sorry but I don't know what this is). The possibility that it's got something to do with HD is 50/50, so I may have to send it to repairing service in the worst case. They told me to try using Disc Install CD1 to check/repair something wrong in my computer. So I followed the instructions and inserted the install CD and restart the computer with "c" key. The computer read the CD and Installer window showed up. As instructed in a manual, I used First Aid in Disc Utility, and tried "repairing disc". After a while it said "1 HFS has been repaired". It also said that Macintosh HD doesn't seem to have a problem", so I quit the disc utility and restarted the computer.

Against my expectation, the same white screen with apple came up on the screen and sits there with no other movements.I'm afraid of trying somethinig without further so I hope I can get the same story or ideas that someone here might have.

OS X :: Won't Work With Camera / Only Recognized In Safe Boot Mode
Samsung TL350
OS X 10.5.8, MacBook

I cannot get my camera to be recognized by my computer when I plug it in and the computer is normally booted.

* If plug the camera into my MacBook, Image Capture and iPhoto will not recognize it.
* If I plug the SD card into my computer with a card reader, the card will be read just fine.
* The camera works on two other MacBook Pros
* The camera will be found on my MacBook if I boot into Safe Mode
* The camera is found in System Profiler when the computer is normally booted, however, the information provided is limited.
* The camera is found in System Profiler when the computer is Safe Booted, and the camera shows the full amount of information about the camera

When I open the system log and then plug the camera in, I receive the following:

Sep 6 11:46:14 JoAlDe kernel[0]: USBF: 958.769 AppleUSBEHCI0x27b8800::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0xfd, timing out! (Addr: 3, EP: 0)
Sep 6 11:46:19 JoAlDe kernel[0]: USBF: 963.770 AppleUSBEHCI0x27b8800::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 0xfd, timing out! (Addr: 3, EP: 1)

From what I understand, this means that the computer is unable to see that the camera is a Mass Storage Device, thus it times out and is unable to boot it as such.

So I set up my system with the USB Prober and the associated logging file.

I ran the USB Prober on level 7 while I connected the camera.

I know zilch about reading and comprehending any of the results except this snippet really stuck out to me:

It occurred twice more:

3635.575 [5] Finding driver for interface #0 of Samsung Digital Camera, matching personality using com.apple.iokit.IOUSBUserClient, score: 104999, wildCard = 5
3635.575 [6] Matched: idVendor (8107) idProduct (4152) bcdDevice (256) bConfigurationValue (1) bInterfaceNumber (0)
3635.575 [6] Didn't Match: nothing

Just looking at this particular result, it looks like the computer is unable to identify what exactly USB device is being plugged in.

MacBook Pro :: Isight Camera - Used It For Skype And Noticed It Just Showed A Black Screen?
I have a 15'' 2010 macbook pro that I've only owned for about a month and a half. At first the isight camera worked great,I used it multiple times for photobooth. But a few weeks ago I tried to used it for skype and noticed it just showed a black screen. I thought maybe the problem was just with skype, but I started checking other programs and it's the same in all of them. The green light is on and it's recognized in system profiler, but the screen is black.

A few days after this happened, the problem seemed to fix itself, but then it went right back to the black screen 2 days later, and had been that way ever since.

I tried resetting the PRAM, but it didn't help. Is there anything else I can do, or is it time to give in and take my macbook to the Apple store?

MacBook :: Built-in Camera Works On Skype But Not PhotoBooth
I have OSX 10.5.8. In the past, I was able to use PhotoBooth, but now when I open it, all options to take a photo are grayed out. The screen, where, I believe, previously I'd seen whatever was in the built-in camera's lens (generally whatever I put in front of the screen to photograph), I now see all black with a white camera icon crossed out. Skype works fine though. When I try to load iChat, it crashes unexpectedly. For clarification, I'm using the built-in cam and do not have external camera hooked up to it. I don't really care about iChat, which I never use, and am very, very glad that Skype, which I do use, is working.  However, I would very much like to get PhotoBooth working.

Mac :: Safari Won't Play ANY Online Video / Get It To Work?
Whats up guys. So yesterday I was just surfing the web and noticed I couldn't watch ANY kind of online video. Vimeo, YouTube, Hulu, Streetfire...nothing. Just a blank black window where the video usually just pops up and starts to play. I thought it was a flash problem, so I went to the Flash website to download a new version...the Flash website will not load. It says "Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page." So, I am stumped...the only other issue I thought it might have been was that I downloaded "FlipForMac" to watch windows media files on Quicktime. So, I deleted that utility, and nothing changed.

Applications :: Won't Work With Video Quality / Importing QT Into IMovie
I have got a .mov file (1GB) that looks fabulous when I watch it in the Quicktime player. But when I drag it into iMovie, the quality is terrible.

At first I figured this was just because iMovie displays lower quality for editing and that the original quality would be preserved when I bring it back into Quicktime. But the quality is just as bad after compression.

No matter what I do, the final Quicktime video is atrocious. When I compress it from iMovie, Im choosing the highest quality setting to bring it into .dv format. In .dv format, the file is still very heavy, but it looks terrible. If iMovie preserved the quality (whether we see it or not), shouldnt it be visible in .dv?

I also tried exporting the .dv into mpg-4 and plenty other formats (thinking .dv may still be hiding the true quality) but that doesnt work either. Im still on an iBook G4 (PowerPC) running Mac OS X v10.4.11 and QuickTime Pro v7.4.5.

Mac Pro :: Won't Work With Dual 4870's / Can't Work With 2nd Graphic Card
In the last 2 weeks before my MP shipped, I've asked 3 Apple Geniuses at Apple stores and Apple Tech support about running dual DVI 23" Cinema Displays with 4870's. They ALL said I would need a second card. When I attempted the install, there were only 2 power cord clips on the back face of the main board. Both being used by the onboard Radeon 4870. What to do next? Another call to Apple support offered me a nice Indian girl who I could not really understand. Finally, I called a local non-Apple shop that I frequent for hardware and service issues. The very nice service tech told me to take the 2nd card back, since that original 4870 will drive 2 monitors perfectly, in my case, with a simple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor for the 2nd 23" display.

how would you install any 2nd graphics card, if a 4870 takes up both power clips?

Software :: Can't Get Skype To Work
so my colleague's computer, a G5 powermac, had to have the harddrive replaced a month ago. she was in thunderbird, OSX asked her if she wanted to install the usual software updates, she hit yes, and it all went blank and would only restart to a grey screen after. took it in the the store, they replaced the harddrive and migrated everything over to the new one. ever since, she can't get skype to work - no matter how many times we try reinstalling it, it just bounces once in the dock and then quits. there are other quirks too - in word, some of the icons show up as 'quicktime pict'.

we've tried running disk utility, deleting the plist and cache files related to skype, reinstalling quicktime, and nothing helps. any suggestions???

Mac Pro :: Won't Work With 24" ACD To 4870 / Can't Work With Adaptor
I just picked up a second 24" ACD with the mini display port. I already have one, so the mini display port on my 4870 is in use. So I think I need an adaptor to go from the MDP on the second display to the DVI on the 4870.

However, this adaptor has a male MDP and a female DVI. The ACD has a male MDP, so I think I need an adaptor which is a female MDP and a female DVI.

I find it a little strange that it is so difficult to put two identical monitors on the Mac Pro. I did search the forums, but kept getting hits for the above adaptor and I am not sure how it would work.

Mac Pro :: Won't Work With Ram / Can't Work With Setup
I just got my new Mac Pro and installed a second 8800GT which works perfectly fine, and also 8GB (2x4) of OWC RAM. When I boot the system it now says 8GB RAM instead of the 10GB I have installed (8GB from OWC and 2GB default Apple).

I have them installed as:

Riser 1:
2GB | 2GB | 2GB | 2GB

Riser 2:
empty | empty | 1GB | 1GB

The little book that came with the system said if I had 3 pairs to use slots 3&4 which is why I set it up that way. Are there any issues with doing this? Do I have the RAM in the right slots? How can I set this up to see the full 10GB?
