Nov 4, 2007I just got leopard with my friend and for some reason, iChat wont let us do video chat or screen sharing. I keep getting the message that i didn't respond or that he didn't respond. Sep 7, 2009Using a mid-2009 15" MBP, 3.06 GHz. iChat has been using significantly more CPU during a video chat than before the upgrade. Anyone else seeing this? I'm currently using the 9400M and not the 9600GT, but I don't think it would have any effect on this. Specifically, it uses about 100% (out of 200). Screen shot of the activity monitor is attached.
I do notice, however, that during the video chat, it is not using the iChat process AND the vcencoder process that is also used in leopard. It just uses the iChat process. I still don't think it should be using so much CPU to video chat.

Sep 27, 2009When trying to do a video chat, a friend of mine continues to get the same error message with anyone who he tries to video chat with. The computer is a July 2009 MBP 15in running Leopard. The only thought is that it is wirelessly connected to the internet but with speeds around 10Mbits so that shouldn't be a problem.

Mar 24, 2009I went to iChat with my girlfriend tonight, and for some strange reason she can see me on her computer but I can't see her. All I can see in the video box is the moving image of myself. May 11, 2010My iMac C2Duo 20" gets error messages when attempting a Video Chat in 10.5.8 with iChat 4.0.8. If I boot up from FW drive using 10.4.11 everything works.
When I initiate a Video Chat, after a while I get a pop up "There was a communication error during your chat. (recipient) cancelled the connection."
When I ACCEPT a Video Chat invite, I get a pop up "There was a communication error during your chat. Did not receive a response from (initiator)."
I should mention that there is also a networking problem in 10.5.8 that disappears if I boot up from the FW drive with 10.4.11. The Internet Sharing will randomly stop working for no apparent reason. I'll be connected to interenet using iPhone 3GS or old iBook G4 running 10.5.8 and suddenly I'm "no longer connected to the internet". Sometimes stopping and restarting Internet Sharing solves it for a while, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it will work for days, other times for minutes or quit overnight.

Mar 8, 2009I am studying for a year in South Africa and using internet behind a college proxy. Beyond the annoyances of only having 300 MB/month of internet, I am especially frustrated because I can't use skype, ichat, or google talk to stay in touch with people back home. I've tried everything; With skype, i downloaded authoxy, which corrects for the fact that skype takes its proxy settings from the network settings (I'm not a computer expert so I may have that wrong, but regardless, I followed the directions and tinkered with it some more and it failed). Then I downloaded the beta version of the latest skype, per customer support directions, and still no luck--i can't even sign on.
The same goes for iChat. Even google talk, which operates within the browser, will only allow text chat. When I try voice or video, it fails. None of this happens to students with a pc.

Feb 25, 2009I'm attempting to use a Canon Optura 300 MiniDV camcorder as a webcam for Skype on a current-generation Intel Mac Mini, running Mac OS X 10.5.6 Server with the latest release of Skype.
Connected via Firewire (1394a 6 to 4 pin) Skype recognizes the camera without any problems and the image is crystal clear, but it does not recognize the camera's built-in microphone as a sound input option. Testing with iChat, Apple's software does recognize the on-camera mic as sound input (and passes-through fine), but it never actually appears as an input option in the System Preferences' Audio panel, which I think is the root of Skype's problem.
The Optura, with a wide-angle lens attached, gives us a wider field of view than our external iSight, making it more useful for showing off our newborn, from the comfort of our living room (without having to huddle around the MBP), to friends and family currently far afield. (Plus, since the Mini in question is our media server, we can Skype via our HDTV.)
