How is the quality of the mic and video cam? When I chat with friend who uses a MacBook, her internal mic is quite bad. I usually have her use an external mic. But since a mic jack isn't included in the MacBook the quality of the internal mic becomes more important. How is it? Also, is the cpu powerful enough to push skype high quality video. (I know about ichat but I need skype).

Alright, this iChat mulitperson videoconferencing has me stumped. The first time I tried it out, I had the video conference running with one person and I just double clicked the video camera icon of another buddy online. The video window changed to both people with my video feed between and below them. I closed the conference, but now when I try it again I just get a message saying one of my buddies can't do multiperson conferencing. What's going on? I would think it was firewall settings or something, but I HAD IT WORKING! I didn't change anything either.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a small business that requires me to communicate frequently with clients in other markets. i would like to use iChat on the AIM network to video conference with these clients. i was hoping to somehow get my wacom taboo tablet set up as well, so i could somehow draw figures and have them appear either real time or in a drag-and-drop fashion to my clients.
thus far, video conferencing works superbly but only with mac users.
video conferencing has been almost impossible with clients using pc's. i often get one of three error messages: either ichat says the client denied my request to video conference (despite their accepting the request), the request times out, or it says an unknown error occured and it asks me to report it to mapple.
in regards to the wacom taboo tablet, i have been using goggle docs as a work around of sorts, where i share permissions to a doc with my client, draw my figures in that document, and the doc refreshes every 3-5 seconds on the client end.
my set up is a macbook air revB/1.86/ssd, 24" cinema display, and a time capsule as my router (i also have a linksys i can switch to if necessary)
1) i have tried skype, and the quality was just terrible. i desperately need a fix to this yesterday, and welcome any advice.
2) any thoughts on a better way to display my tablet-drawn figures real time?
i have family members living all around the usa running on both macs and pc's and im looking for a video conferencing software that would be able to handle at-least 6 webcam conference and is also cross platform (mac & pc).
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I used for the first time the webchat feature in Skype. My laptop is a MacBook Pro i5 with Skype 2.8.0.851, MacOS is 10.6.5. My parents are using a decent Asus laptop running Windows 7 and the latest version of Skype for Windows. My connection is an 8MB via WiFi (n router). Theirs is a bit slower as it's via a dongle. They said that they could see me very well, no issues whatsoever. On my Mac the webchat was of very poor quality, pixelated, constantly freezing, massive delay. It was barely usable. Is anybody aware of any known issues between Skype on a MBP and on a Windows 7?
Pity I can't do this test, but I would like to see how their end of the chat was, I would like to understand if it was really good or just my parents' inexperienced opinion (they just bough a laptop for the first time). Once thing is for sure though, their chat wasn't constantly freezing and they could see my well 'like a tv'. I couldn't. On a slightly different note, just found out that my 'mighty' $1,499 MBP has a VGA webcam. The cheapest laptop you can buy in the UK for $299 has a 1.3MP webcam. Gutted. This clearly means that the quality of my webchat will never be particularly good and that having a grainy picture is considered 'normal' if you factor in the very limited resolution of a VGA camera (Unless you watch a teeny tiny window like a stamp) independently of the connection speed.

I have a new macbook pro 15 inch and I downloaded the newest version of skype and I can't get the video to work every time I get "video in use by another application." My ichat and photobooth both work too. I've tried everything even deleting the camcamx5.component file but I don't have it.

In the past in different programs I have made the movie into an .avi and then imported that file into a DVD program is this the best thing to do? The quality settings on iMovie and iDVD are a little confusing. Also, is there a way that you can fit the finished DVD to disk, im sure I have seen this in the past, this would in some cases achieve the best it can do depending on the disc size. On my finished product, the menus (made in iDVD) are a little jumpy, would burning the disc at a lower speed make it easier for DVD players to handle the DVD. Also, while we are on the menu.... I set music to it, but it would loop acording do the looping on the menus, is there a way to make the audio play through even though the menu/images are looping? I have also mixed video and images in the movie, the photos don't really look great, I made a Ken Burns type slide show which is separate to the movie and that looks not bad, but the actual images that are within the movie pan quite badly and aren't as sharp as I would have hoped. Is there something I need to do differently on this? Just thought also, when importing on iMovie 09 is the quality not so good, I have heard that the best is iMovie 06. Is there any truth in this?

What I want to do is capture both the video feed and Skype audio to archive. At this point it doesn't matter if the audio and video are in true sync. When i import from my camera into fcp the video quality looks fine and it is hd and when i play it frame by frame the video quality looks fine, it's just when i play it, the video suddenly drops in quality and goes slightly pixelated.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a first time iMac and skype user. I downloaded skype 2.7 earlier today and managed to do a video call for 30 minutes without any problems. However, after trying to use it again 3 hours later, my iMac keeps shutting down everytime I make a video call. None of my video calls last more than a minute before my computer shuts down. I tried reinstalling skype from scratch again but t didn't work. Even the beta version failed to solve the problem. I'm new to both iMac and skype.

The skype account works with my first gen black macbook, but on the newer mini I can see myself but the audio does not work. The cam connects to one of the usb ports and I've configured sounds to "unrecognized usb sound device" that came up after I plugged the camera in the mini, but on the "test calls" I still can't hear myself. The skype for mac is a beta, but others seem to do ok.

Like right now I have a skype dmg file I can't delete as it says Skype is in use, then right above that is a seperate skype icon that even if I drag to dock it still stays on the right hand side (like a copy), then I downloaded open office again and it put the install icon there (like when you open and you drag your program to teh applications folder)

The Mini is running Leopard and it's connected to the TV via DVI, 1360x768, millions of colors, the works. Everything's set up with QuickTime + Front Row + iTunes + DivX + AC3 (AC52). I dropped aliases for my Lacie NAS drive in the 'Movies' folder so that I can access my movies via Front Row. So far so good. It's a slick setup and I'm loving it.
There's just one headscratcher (and tentative dealbreaker) that bugs me... why does all video look like crap? The same movies that looked gorgeous when played back on the same TV from my retired WinXP media machine, now look like bad YouTube videos on the Mac. All dark areas are blocky as hell -- what's supposed to be black (or thereabouts) looks more like 'Turd Tetris' (a bunch of huge squares in various flavors of brown)..............
i have a HUGE collection of DVDs and i bought a portable HDD to back them up onto. So i have like 13 done and when i went to try the 14th to make sure video quality was there, there was no video quality. There was no audio and the picture looked like an itunes visualizer. I was wondering if this was a handbreak issue or because it was a newer DVD with some sort of protection on it. It was I AM LEGEND and the other movies i ripped were like John Wayne classics and movies from the 90s.

The file looks fine (other than the fact that, when I watch it in QT, the aspect ratio is wrong). When I put it into iDVD and let it burn, the video just looks... weird. I'm not sure how to describe it, exactly, but it's just weird. I can't figure out what's wrong. Is it possible it's something in iDVDs conversion to MPEG-2?

I finally got a .AVI file of a video I have been looking made back in the late 90s. However, the video quality is choppy, but the audio is great. Is there a way to improve the quality of the video so that the pixels are not looking blocky and moves according to the audio?

I edit my video, but i dont know where to go from here! What is the best way to export this video without loss of quality? These videos would mainly go onto youtube, iDVD, or a memory drive. I do not have quicktime pro, so any modifications would have to be within FCE4.
