MacBook Pro :: EMAIL STEVE - Lucidlogix Chip - Use Sandybridge / Discrete GPU Together

Jan 1, 2011

Lucidlogix have a real time GPU balancing solution that can render scenes in real time using BOTH the integrated sandybridge GPU and an ATI or NVidia GPU. If used in the next gen macbook pro it could make the macbook pro a real gaming machine. One little chip on the motherboard could change everything. Everyone email Steve Jobs. Seriously this could be awesome, Alienware performance on a thin Macbook Pro. Make noise bang the internet drum, he may listen. [URL]

Software :: Steve Jobs Says No To Google's VP8 Web Code?

May 20, 2010

In reply to a email asking his thoughts on Google's announcement of the royalty-free WebM video codec, Steve Jobs reportedly simply forwarded back the critical expose profiled yesterday by AppleInsider. Jobs' terse reply to the question "What did you make of the recent VP8 announcement?" left little doubt about Apple's views on the matter, because the linked report Jobs returned, written by x264 developer Jason Garrett-Glaser, castigated the new specification for video compression as being weak, incomplete, and undoubtedly encumbered by patent issues.

MacBook Pro :: Way To Force Discrete Graphics On Or Off?

May 9, 2010

Apparently there's a utility called gfxCardStatus that shows you if your 2010 i5/i7 MBP is using integrated graphics or discrete graphics and now allows you to switch between them at will. The feature is experimental, as the site stresses, but it seems stable enough if you only wish to use it once in a while as I did. (I tested a game that didn't trigger the discrete graphics with the discrete graphics forced on) If you can't wait for Apple to get their game on I suggest using it.

MacBook Pro :: Stop Use Of Discrete Graphics?

I researched on the internet on how to stop the discrete graphics from unnecessarily being switched into use.

From this site [url]... i found that if i typed in the key in the info.plist in the package contents of the application, the application would stop switching the discrete graphics on.

MacBook Pro :: Not Switching To Discrete (AMD) Graphics

Jun 25, 2014

MPBr, 15", Early 2013 with dual graphics (Intel HD Graphics and AMD Radeon)

Running Maverics 10.9.3

What is happening:

1. Machine doesn't switch to AMD graphics no matter whatever app is running. In activity monitor even if some apps say "Requires High Perf GPU", the graphics card being used is still "Integrated".

2. Connecting to an external display via thunderbolt or HDMI doesn't work (external display doesn't turn on) either as it required discrete graphics too.

3. After a reboot (at what time I believe machine tries to use discrete graphics card), the display is always blank. Even the Apple logo on back of lid is turned off. Only way to get the display back is to close the lid and open it after 10 ~ 15 seconds at which time it probably switch back to integrated and comes alive.

What I have tried:

1. Reset PRAM.
2. Reset SMC.
3. Tried gfxCardStatus [URL] to no avail. If I manually switch to discrete card, gfxCardStatus checkmark say it has switched, but it doesn't.
4. Tried booting into hardware diagnosis (pressing D while booting) but was unable to get the screen turned on to proceed.

MacBook Pro :: 13" MBP Update With Discrete Graphics?

Sep 19, 2009

What's the likelihood that Apple could update the 13" Pro with a more powerful discrete graphics card like the 9800 GT or 260M GTX? That would enough for me to buy the 13" MBP!

MacBook Pro :: Is 13" Going To Get Matte Screen/discrete Video?

Oct 3, 2009

The usual dilemma: to buy or to wait? Currently have a MacBook Alu and the LCD on this machine is simply horrible + I the glossy screen turned out to be pretty annoying (although I did like it initially).

I am thinking of getting a 15" with discrete graphics & matte screen (compared it side-by-side with a glossy @ AppleStore - the difference is HUGE)... but I could wait for a couple of months only if I knew that there was a 13" with a good screen/discrete graphics in development since I don't like the size of the 15" (weight is not an issue, it is mostly the ability to use it everywhere). I also compared the 13" MBP screen with a 15" (both glossy) and the 13" just sucks! Why can't they make the 13" a bit more expensive but give it a decent LCD? Even as an option? I have a Sony VAIO Z with a great matte 13" display, wish I could just transplant it into the the Mac

An ideal configuration for me would be a 13" with a decent matte screen and powerful graphics. But then, I'm a bit reluctant to wait as Apple may actually make matters worse by having worse graphics on new-gen MBP and perhaps no matte option whatsoever. I really don't care about the Arrandale vs Penryn, dual-core vs triple-core... whatever. The only part of the computer that I look @ all day long is the display, so it has to be a good one.

Hardware :: Steve Jobs Appears At Palo Alto Apple Store For IPad Launch

Apr 5, 2010

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs made an appearance Saturday for the iPad launch, talking with customers and even giving a hands-on demo of the device at his company's Palo Alto, Calif., store. As first reported by Cult of Mac, Twitter user Cedric Lignier spotted Jobs at the store wearing blue jeans, sneakers, and a hoodie sweater over his trademark mock turtleneck. Jobs reportedly showed a little girl how to use the iPad, and Lignier said he believed the girl might have been Jobs' daughter. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Jobs arrived at the University Avenue store shortly before noon, causing a great deal of interest among the patrons there.

"Many in the crowd pulled out cameras and iPhones to capture the most magic of Silicon Valley moments," the report said. "Jobs chatted with a handful of other shoppers, but even his 30-minute invasion did not get in the way of their serious business the buying of and playing with new iPads." Jobs has been seen at that location before, which is just 20 minutes from Apple's campus at 1 Infinite Loop. When the iPhone first launched in 2007, Jobs appeared and spoke with programmers Andy Hertzfeld and Bill Atkinson.................

MacBook Pro :: 13" Supports I7 Chip?

Apr 28, 2010

I have an i7 chip and was wondering if the 13" MBP would support it if I popped it in there. Two other questions:

1) Is this release Apple's final update of the MBPs before September (when I go back to school)?
2) Is there a way to get a double or triple external monitor set up with the new MBPs without dropping $200 on a DualHead2Go?

MacBook :: Chip In Inner Border Around Screen

Aug 13, 2010

A tiny piece of the inside border around the screen on my white macbook chipped off. It's on the far right right above the thing I don't know how to describe it but it looks like this: --------. I don't have warranty or apple care or anything like that anymore but i was wondering how much it would cost to repair. Would it be a quick fix that I can just pick up later in the day? I heard that simple repairs like this cost around 40 or 50 dollars but I don't know really.

I bought my Macbook from someone so I don't have the receipt or anything but I do have some papers from when he went to repair cracks before. I don't know I'm really good with my MacBook since I got it used and it was already sort of beat up. I've never slammed it shut so I don't even know how it cracked.

Mac Mini :: Discrete Graphics Cards - How To Know About It

Apr 16, 2007

why can't we have discrete graphics inside the mac mini? Two reasons. There isn't any space, and there's no way to connect it. To the first we could always mount the card outside the enclosure - I'm sure many of us here are able and willing to sacrifice the time needed to make that look pretty (or even the good looks) in order to get some better frame rates.

MacBook :: Late 2006 Chip Missing Out Of Lower Right Corner Of Palmrest

May 18, 2010

my Applecare finally expired in January '10. Just before it expired, I had the palmrest/keyboard/trackpad replaced (among other things) for the THIRD time due to the well-known cracking issue. Now that it's expired, I notice that yet again there's a chip missing out of the lower right corner of the palmrest. I know that the newer palmrest/keyboard/trackpad (with the iTunes controls on the F-keys) from the later Macbooks is backward-compatible with mine. Are they any more or less durable than the palmrest from the late 2006 models?

PowerPC :: IBook G3 Video Chip Not Working?

Apr 18, 2008

I have read about this issue before, and I know it is a major problem with this model iBook. When I turn on my iBook nothing shows on the display, just sound, and when it does work, there is just a fuzzy picture. Pressing on the area where the video chip is(left armrest) fixes the issue, but only if I hold it.

Someone said to put something in the case to apply pressure to the video chip, and this worked, but only for a little while before the same thing started happening again. What I need is some repair place that will fix this for cheap, also maybe "clean up" my iBook a bit, it's kind of dirty, missing the bottom bumpers, and missing some screws. What do you think it would cost to get this fixed and cleaned up?

Mac Pro :: Why Is Northbridge Chip Running At Dangerously High Temperatures

Jun 21, 2012

I noticed my computer was getting hot to the touch, and warming my computer room significantly.. So I checked my temperatures for the system and noticed everything seemed normal except for the Northbridge Chip (127 C) and Northbridge Heat Sink (62 C). I am running no applications, CPUs are basically idle.

I am concerned that this temp is WAY higher than it should be, using Google, I found that many users were concerned that 80 C was too hot for the northbridge when the 2009 Mac Pros came out. What should my course of action be?

Is there a hardware button to reset everything back to factory without reinstalling Mac OS X?
