My MacBook 13", mid 2011, started to slow down, freeze. Tried to start up in safe mode, after that it just won't boot at all. Tried with the original DVD holding down "C" but no disk boot.

I have a 20" Intel based iMac (model A1224) running Snow Leopard. It is just over a year old and only had the original Apple keyboard and mouse plugged into it. Today when I tried to start it I got only a blank gray screen. I tried all the keyboard combo start-up suggestions in the Apple help screens, unplugging/replugging everything, and booting with the Original disk and the Snow Leopard disk. A couple of those attempts produced a minute of the gray apple logo screen, then back to blank. While the disks were in it did sound like it was trying to read them, but spit out the disks after about 5 minutes.

I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.

Then tonight it just shut off instead of sleeping and now it won't start. All I can get if I'm lucky is the start up chime and a super quick flash of a white screen.

My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

Whenever I take the hard drive out my laptop just stops working and it's back to normal when I put the hard drive in, is there a way for me to use my laptop without having to physically have my start up disk (hard drive) plugged into my laptop?
Macbook Pro can't start up beyond the grey start up screen. There's a spinning wheel and bar that moves to 1/4 before Macbook Pro shuts down automatically.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy macbook is a few months old and fell. It happened so fast, I'm not even sure what happened. I picked it up, lost my balance, and... After I stopped screaming, I realized that it still turns on and seems to work fine.. For that I am grateful. However, because of how it has dented, the upper left corner grinds upon closing and opening. It is dented in three places, evidently, 'hopped' when I dropped it. If the lid is closed, its dented on the upper left hand corner which luckily didn't break the screen but did affect how the lid opens and closes. It dented slightly on the other side as well but not enough to grate on that side when it closes. Any way to bend these dents out so that it won't 'grate' when closing and opening?

I just bought a Mac Book pro 13 (last model) and I tried to use assistant migration to migrate everything from my old Mac Book (OS X LIon and updated), by ethernet connexion by cable, but the operation avorted twice. No interesting solution for the moment from the Apple Care telephone ahelp. They seem as bewildered as me.
I am looking for a solution in my old Mac, but before going in the Old Mac to see what's going wrong (I had done, though, the necessary adjustment, like deactivation of all applications opening automatically, never deactivate hard drive, unlink my computer to Dropbox etc..) I want to restore my new Mac Book Pro with its original features (without any trace of the precedent operation, or user accounts etc..)
SO: Is it better to format hard disk and restore original adjustments (as if I had just open the computer) or to use in Disk utilities the command "Reinstall Mac OS X and its application"?
I should think it is the first solution but I liked an advise from more clever folks than me.
Secondary question:Could the problem be because my new Mac Pro had been configured in the Apple Store with the same user account than the one on my old Mac (and same Apple ID)? Or is there other possibilities?
