I have a problem with my MacBook Pro, it won't start-up and I don't have a original install disc. I have a Timemachine Back-up on a external HD drive. Starting with the Shift, rebooting Pram or Shift+ctrl+alt, don't work eighter.

I did a clean install of Snow leopard on my MBP, everything works fine...Except for the fact that the thing keeps telling me that I cant the bundled software from the disc (Ilife) because it's supposedly the wrong version...
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I wonder if anyone can give me the basic steps to setting up a RAID array on a Powermac G4 (I think I mean a Raid 0 ie one extra hard drive).I have looked up a couple of articles but they advise to use the original install disc during the set up process. Unfortunately I don't have the original install disc. I have available one extra internal hard drive and one external hard drive.

I am trying to load a clean valid copy of OSX on my older clamshell. It will take up to 10.3 and that is what I'm using. I keep getting this error " Startup Disc was unable to select the install CD as the startup disc" error (-2). This occurs after the software requests restart to start the process.

I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

I have got my first mac (imac) so sorry if this is a really simple question. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard but I am having bits of trouble with printing. As I have not yet got much data on my Mac I am thinking of going back to my original installation that came with the imac. I have backed up my data I want keep photos, music etc; onto DVD. When I put the installation disc in what is the best option to pick ? I do appreciate that I will have to re-install photoshop and other apps; I have installed. Will I have to re-configure my internet again? Basically I want to re-install the operating system I am also thinking of buying Superdupper any thoughts on this product.

I didn't have the install disc and used the restore option in disk utility to copy files to the new drive before inserting it. It now works, but it's slow to load-up. How do I reinstall my OS, to optimise it? I've lost my original install disc and have since upgraded to Lion 10.7.4 BTW - my new drive also has some strange noises and I'd like to replace this with a new one ASAP.

I was seeking a job for the past 6 months. I finally got a call for an interview at 3 places. I am in big trouble now. I was having major problems with my computer constantly crashing, and I was advised to re-install my MAC OS 10.5 original disc to get a new system. I forgot to backup my important files and folders. Now I need to print my resume that I saved, it has been deleted completely. I do not even have a hard copy to refer to. I cannot remember what was on it in order to make another one. Problem is, my CD drive doesn't work, so I can't just install from a disc. I had installed Mountain Lion on my old hard drive, but the original OS was Snow Leopard. View 7 Replies View RelatedPlease take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

So I tried to restore my MacBook Pro from the Disc Utility and now that it had completed restoring and erasing the old data opff the HDD, my MBP doesnt even recognize that there is a HD in it! I tried to select the HDD using the "hold OPTION key at startup" ordeal and shows absolutely no drive what so ever, even though I restored it from a backup HDD. Before it would show just a loading Apple gray screen and go nowhere, but i was still able to 'see' the drive with the OPTIONS key startup. Now when I do the selectable drive startup it shows NOTHING but a blank folder, with a question mar, flashing on the screen.

2 days back I started getting this message "startup disc is full" I have aperture for my photos and deleted all the duplicates which should have freed up a lot of space.After deleting files when I go back and check it is still full.I have deleted files from Aperture trash and the trash on the toolbar also.Is this a virus? I personally dont think I have enough files to fill up 500GB, probably around 200 GB.

I'm not sure if it's an image or if it's the OS install DVD. I bought a Mac Pro, quad Xeon 64 bit monster. The guy I bought it from had to retain the HDD for legal reasons. There's a flashing folder at startup and won't boot. I've tried the disk utility on the install cd but it cannot be repaired. It repaired it once, but when restarted it happened again. Ive also tried to reset the pram (not ire if thats what its called) and tried recovery hd, but those didnt work either. I want to backup my files, mainly pictures, but don't know how or if it's even possible through disc utility.

I just experienced the 8600m GT video failure and am bringing the computer to Apple tomorrow. Over a year ago I replaced my stock drive with a WD scorpio black drive 320gb over a year ago. Do I need to swap out my WD for the original HD? I have a recent time machine back up of my data, but I'm more concerned about someone denying warranty service because I swapped out my drive. What have you guys been doing when bringing your machine in for service? Does it matter that my original drive has not been updated for over a year?

One for Lion OS X, another for Documents and another for Movies and Downloads. When I run disk utility and verify other two partitions(documents and movies/downloads), they appear to be okay but when I do the same with Lion OS X then it says:
The volume Lion OS X was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.Error: This disk needs to be repaired....then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. Is my hard drive gonna die soon? Or will it be okay if I just format my 500gb hard drive completely and install the fresh copy of Lion OS X again? I don't have a recovery disc or what so ever provided by Apple anymore. I have a DMG installation file of Lion OS X and a USB flash drive(4 GB approx). How can I repair the disk partition without the recovery start up disc?

Trying to install OS in my macbook pro. DVD/CD drive is not letting or accepting the cd.I could put it in 1/3, but the macbook does not take it in. It seems something is stuck.I checked to see if any cd is in there and even tried rebooting and holding down the trackpad to see if something ejects.

I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.
