May 9, 2012I just bought a Mac Book pro 13 (last model) and I tried to use assistant migration to migrate everything from my old Mac Book (OS X LIon and updated), by ethernet connexion by cable, but the operation avorted twice. No interesting solution for the moment from the Apple Care telephone ahelp. They seem as bewildered as me.
I am looking for a solution in my old Mac, but before going in the Old Mac to see what's going wrong (I had done, though, the necessary adjustment, like deactivation of all applications opening automatically, never deactivate hard drive, unlink my computer to Dropbox etc..) I want to restore my new Mac Book Pro with its original features (without any trace of the precedent operation, or user accounts etc..)
SO: Is it better to format hard disk and restore original adjustments (as if I had just open the computer) or to use in Disk utilities the command "Reinstall Mac OS X and its application"?
I should think it is the first solution but I liked an advise from more clever folks than me.
Secondary question:Could the problem be because my new Mac Pro had been configured in the Apple Store with the same user account than the one on my old Mac (and same Apple ID)? Or is there other possibilities?

Am i correct in assuming that if I restore it to the origianl factory settings then it will erase his settings. Also will i need anything erlse with the start up like serial numbers, auth codes etc?

Jul 12, 2009My computer HD failed and I cant start my macbook at all. The computer boots and shows a question mark on a folder and the HD clicks so I assume thats the problem. I'm getting ready to order a new one and I can't find my original install disks. Can I do a fresh install of the OS on a new HD with just the Leopard install disk? I have a set of Mac Pro install disks, but don't know if they will work (missing divers?).

Mar 12, 2009So there I was with my dock on the right-hand side in 2D mode, and having now switched it to the bottom I realise I switched in some new dock image files back when Leopard came out, and now I've got a funky multicoloured spectrum dock.
All well and good, but I don't think I have any of the original dock image files anywhere. Short of reinstalling Leopard from scratch, is there any way (or utility) to get my dock back to the default Leopard version?

Apr 5, 2012Early 2011 15" MBP with Lion (purchased new July 22, 2012). I had a two year old MBP running Snow Leopard then upgraded to Lion. The computer got flooded. I took out the hard drive and put it in a portable hard drive case and used it to restore my new MBP running Lion. It seemed to go very smooth and very easy. I am not a very knowledgable computer person, I use the computer for Photoshop, iTunes and email and just barely know not to turn it off with the on/off button! I keep noticing that I have two of many things in the computer, like library, multiple systems and multiple hard drives. I also get conflicting amounts of free hard drive space. I feel that I mistakenly copied too much stuff. I have backed up my files onto a fire wire hard drive. I want to "push a button" and have the computer go back to the way it was the day I bought it. This time, I will take the time and move the files and programs manually (there are not that many). I am affraid a typical restore from Time Machine will only bring back the problems I am trying to get away from.

Jun 26, 2012Is there any way you can reset your MacBook Air to the original settings you first recieved it in? I've noticed I have way to much junk to go through and try to delete it all and when I try to delete something it does the poof thing it's supposed to, but later I notice it has not been deleted. I've tried restarting my computer, and completely turning it off for 24 hours then seeing it its gone, but it never deletes.

Aug 1, 2009Im selling my macbook pro and am trying to restore it to factory settings. I have inserted the "install disc" many times. However, my laptop is never able to start up. It alternates between a black and grey (no apple or wheel) screen. I've tried holding down the "C" key while rebooting..that didnt work. I've tried clicking restart when it instructs me to...that didnt work I've tried going to system preferences --> startup disk --> clicking the install drive and it still didnt work. What can I do? My mac can start up and work perfectly fine without the disk, its just that i need to restore it to factory settings.

Other forums are saying "Use System Restore Disks" I don't have "System Restore Disks" I have 2 disks that came with the computer called "Mac OS X" not called "System Restore". Feb 22, 2012So I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and used Migration Assistant to transfer my files. I realized after that I should have transfered right at the beginning when I had the chance for Setup Assistant, because I have a lot of files that require permission from my other user account on my old MacBook. I went to Disk Utilities, and there were two options to "Erase Free Space", some Toshiba thing and Macintosh HD (I am assuming was the hard drive that was transferred). I pushed "Erase Free Space" and closed down disk utility, but it looks like it didn't delete my hard drive because all the applications and files are still there. I am now reinstalling OS X Lion hoping it will bring me back to that first screen where it askes if i want to transfer from another computer. Am I doing this right? I feel like I'm gonna mess something up and i've already wasted 5 hours already trying to fix my primary mistake of using Migration.

May 7, 2012I have a late 2009 iMac that came with Snow Leopard, but has been upgraded to Lion via the App store, so I have no recovery discs. I tried reinstalling Lion with the built in recovery, but it did not wipe HD clean. I know I need to erase the HD in Disc Utility, but then I won't have a way to reinstall Lion.

I tried Mroogle, but only suggestions I found was to drag stuff to Trash, which doesn't sound like what I'm trying to accomplish.
