I have a 21" iMac and a Mac Mini, both of which I upgraded to Maverick a week ago. Since then, I have not been able to get Time Machine to backup. I can connect to the disk through my network, but Time Machine does not recognize it exists. I have gone through User and Groups, I have checked everything I can think of through System Preferences, and nothing has worked, including Sharing. I have another computer and am able to backup it, after programming the mini.

If I perform a time machine restore can I select the date I want to fully restore to?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTime Machine no longer works for me. Apparently the volume of stuff it wants to back up is too large for the partition devoted to it (on an external hard drive). But I can't choose the exclude anything because the Options button in Time Machine Prefs is greyed out. I've deleted the TimeMachine .plist file, and restarted, but no go. And I haven't found anything to help either here or on the larger web

I have recently upgraded to 10.10 (fresh install and only migrated network settings and documents). I was setting up my Time Machine and choosing which folders to exclude from the backup when suddenly when I clicked on the plus button to add another directory the finder window shows all the folders as greyed out and unable to be selected. This applies to ALL files on the hard drive. Screen shot attached. I have performed a repair permissions and still a problem. Also performed a repair on the disk to and no change. Needless to say I have performed a reboot as well.Â

Is there an option for Time Capsule to back itself up to another disk? Is this automatic? It just seems dumb to store everything on Time Capsule if it has the same failure rate as a hard drive with no redundancy even though apple says its server grade.

What not sure what exact term is for the question box... but I'm trying to find out the keyboard shortcut to select the second option in a question box. [URL]. What's the keyboard shortcut to select "Add" rather than the highlighted "Don't Add?" Right arrow doesn't work, pressing "a" doesn't work, Tab doesn't work. What is it?

Now which options do I select to tether it? Unfortunately I don't see my phone model there, does that mean somethings wrong?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for recommendations for reliable brands of USB exteral drives for use with Time Machine back-up. I have a Western Digital Passport drive that used to work ok, but now randomly ejects when I try to run a TM back-up, or even when trying to use Disk Utility on the drive. The Passport drive seems to be failing, so, what is a good (better) brand external drive?

I'm upgrading my MBP hard drive - I currently have it partitioned into two 120GB drives (Mac/Bootcamp). My new hard drive will be a bigger size - can I boot off the install CD and restore to a new sized partition? Or does the partition need to be the same size?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2009 MBP 13 and I upgraded it to Snow Leopard. I was going to restore it to an earlier date with Time Machine. I tried to use the original disk with leopard but it said it could not do it due to the fact that I ow have SL. My assumption is that I would use the SL disk to restore?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I was trying to install windows on my Imac using bootcamp, and everything seemed to be working fine. I put in my Windows CD and pressed continue, it then loaded me up to the windows installation page and it told me that I could not use the Bootcamp partition to put my windows OP on, because the partition needed to be NSF or something like that, so I highlighted the Bootcamp partition from the menu, and then clicked the partition button, after I had done that, it was then able to install windows on that partition. After the installation was complete, my Imac now only boots up the windows operating system without any option to what operating system to be booted. What do I do?

So I bought a brand new WD 1TB Elements (USB) to use with Time Machine. I've never used a Time Machine before. I have a MBP13 with a 250GB disk, using the latest Snow Leopard, all updates installed. Formatted the drive to Mac OS Journaled (extended) and set it to use with Time Machine. Works until about 15-17GBs is copied over, than it fails:
1. If I start over it fails very soon after, no matter how many times I retry
2. No matter how many times I reformat it, it always fails
3. I tried one trick I googled - deleting the "inprogress" file - does NOT help
4. SMART status is verified
5. There are no problems if I verify/repair the disk.
I see a lot of info about problems with various external drives working with Time Machine. I have Lion 10.7.3 and find that my old external drive that worked with PCs doesn't work. So, does Apples have a list of recommended esternal drives or at least a list of ones Apple knows are compatible?

When I try to archive my files with Time Machine I get an error message "error disk not available". The external disk is a 1 TB Iomega EGO Portable Hard Drive Mac Edition connected with 2 USB connection to my Mac Book Air with MacOS 10.7.4. I have format the disk in MacOS extended. I have tried to copy file from my internal disk to the external disk & it works correctly.

I have this issue in both macs I own, a 2010 MBP, and a 2012 Mac mini. After I upgraded to yosemite, Time Machine will not find my backup disk. I have been using the same network attached storage drive for 4 years for time machine backups. I has worked fine with all the macs I've owned until now. I can see the disk in Finder, I can go to disk utility and mount the Time Machine disk, but when I go to Time Machine preferences and try to select the list, the disk is not listed there, even though is mounted.

I have a 2006 macbook 2 GHz, upgraded to 4 gb ram and 160 HDD. I don't feel like i have enough space so i decided to purchase a new harddrive and decided a 500 GB would do me just fine Though, i have all my data on this harddrive. I was thinking on making a full disk Time Machine copy of my disk and then restoring the new harddisk with that copy. But i don't know where to place that copy, since it is like 130 GB which is quite a big archive.

whenever I run Time Machine on my PowerBook G4 (1.5 Ghz / 1Gb RAM / OSX 10.5.8) it will eat up GB's of hard disk space while 'preparing the backup'. After that it finishes the backup, but I don't get the space back. I'm talking about the internal HD, not the external target disk of course. Does Time Machine use the space to generate some temporary files? Any ideas how I can get my disk space back
I'm trying to format my disk due to an error with boot camp. However, I cannot push the erase button as shown below.
