View 5 RepliesId like to know if there is a web page that i can print off a list of keyboard shortcuts and commands.
My first mac was the last version of Powerbooks that were made in 2005. On it, I was able to set a phrase that whispered "Sharina, you are now running on reserve battery power." I absolutely loved it and it always freaked people out. I have read that other people were setting custom phrases like this as well.I was wondering if my brand spanking shiny new Macbook Pro i7 purchased in last month can do the same thing.. New macbook is Snow Leopard while old powerbook was probably Tiger.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI really want to ditch this PC laptop and dive headfirst into the mac world. I've been flip flopping between wanting a macbook/macbook pro/powerbook for a while now and I'm getting seriously feed up with myself. The problem is that i cant really justify spending upwards of $1000 for a new computer when my current one works fairly well (for windows). So I think an old school powerbook might be the answer I'm looking for. I've seen them go for $300-400 on ebay and just want a confirmation that this will be fast enough. I only plan to use it for internet, music, the iLife package type things, no games, no photoshop. But I want to make sure that it'll do these good enough to leave me with a good impression of OSX.

Are there other, less expensive options out there that are plug-n-play with PPC Macs?
Also, can anybody recommend a good quality ethernet surge suppressor for a router?

I know it's a strange questions but my mother's powerbook G4 1.5ghz just suffered from the infamous lower ram slot failure and does not fall within the warranty extension program. However, she has VISA performance guarantee and if the repair is going to cost too much, they will most likely offer to replace the computer with a new equivalent one.
This particular issue, apparently, is not really fixable and people who have their logic boards replaced often experience the same problem again later down the road. Since VISA has a no lemon policy and will replace automatically after three repairs, I figure it's better to save my mother the considerable hassle of having to send it in on multiple occasions...
So: I'm I want to find the most expensive authorized apple repair shop. Any 'good' suggestions?
So, for the last week or so I'm been experiencing very strange symptoms, which I think are probably all connected:
1) My MBP (running 10.5.8 bought in August 2008) has from time to time just been turning itself off. Like, I'm just working on something and then it suddenly turns off.
2) My mouse from time to time stops responding to input, sometimes the keyboard does the same thing
3) When I restart after 1 or 2 occurs, it doesn't work. The computer turns on, I get to the screen with the apple on it (there's a chime all of that), then it goes to a plain blue screen and just stays there - the log in box never comes up.
4) In what I think may be related, my computer seems to be running extremely "hot" right now. After just normal use, I'm reaching GPU temperatures as high as 75 degrees according to iStat and CPU temps around 70.
I have used a Macbook Pro from 2007 and have now recently bought the all new 17 inch Macbook Pro.
Something that really annoys me (and my ears) in the new MBP is the crystal clear sound of the Macbook pro speakers when i hit the Volume up or down key on my keyboard. The sound is just too treble and so loud and it gets even worse when i put headphones on and turn down the volume its even more deafening.
Anyone think the same?
Is there a way to solve this problem?
Sometimes, while watching a streaming video on my Macbook, the audio begins stuttering and tearing (that's the best way I think to describe it). Pausing and refreshing the tab is useless, and, usually, closing and reopening the browser is equally useless. This problem is not limited to just one steaming site -- issues occur on Youtube, Hulu, Megavideo etc... For about ten minutes (though sometimes longer), the audio across all programs on my Macbook does not work properly until the problem mysteriously solves itself.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI know that the base 2.0GHz MacBooks do not feature the backlit keyboards of the higher-end models, but I was wondering if the actual backlight is physically in these lower-end models and just disabled in firmware or software? Or is it missing entirely?

I have experience with Chiclet keyboards with the first generation MacBook I used from 2006 to 2007 and the HP DM3z I am currently using since I bought it in October 2009, and am really satisfied with it, but also was really satsifed with my MacBook Pro "classic" keyboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf a MacBook Pro 15 is your only computer, can it use a remote keyboard? I find that I would rather use the ergonomic keyboards as opposed to the keyboard that is found on the laptop itself. I can type considerably faster with more accuracy and getting to the mouse rather than using the touch pad is also quicker and less time consuming.

I work at our university support desk, and the other day we had a girl bring her macbook pro in. The twist is that she did not shut her mbp off and carried it over open in a downpour. Needless to say it was absolutely drenched. Fortunately the computer suffered no side affects. I personally have spilled a drink on mine (I proceeded to turn it off and remove the battery) but I suffered no side affects. So out of curiosity, do MBs/MBPs have sealed keyboards to prevent against liquid damage?

I can view the partition and it says that windows 7 is installed but I dont know how to get the windows 7. Every tutorial I see windows automatically boots up. I might just be missing something really simple, but its frustrating and I want to solve the issue

Last week I put an extra hard drive into a powermac G4 - i didnt know if the hardrive was working or not, and I was asked to put both Harddrives in the one machine to find out if it was working. I did this and nothing happened. I changed the jumpers and still nothing happened.
the existing hardrive was being read but not the new one that I had put in, so I went to start up disk and changed the disk that I was starting up from to the other hardrive. It wouldnt boot, i took the hardrive out and tried to put the computer back to its original state and nothing happened. just a blank screen. I have tried pressing OPT and the hardrive appears but after this screen nothing happens. if I were to use the install disc, would this wipe the hard-drive at all?
I have a G5. It started whining loudly and now it has a black sceen. Can't find old discs to reboot.

Since I updated to 10.6.6 I can no longer open my mail application. I get a message stating that "You have version 4.3 (1081/1082) of mail. It can not be used with the Mac OS X Version 10.6.6."
When I was updating my mail was not in the application folder but within a separate folder in the app folder, so it may not have been updated.
Now my question is how do I solve this, I can't work properly without the mail application!
Got an error on this Macbook, running 10.4.9 I believe, which I hope you guys can give a hand on.

The error repeats. What is statd, and why is it locking up the startup?

it seems that both Time Capsule and Leopard Server both use port 548 for file sharing. So if I have both the server and Time Capsule with File Sharing turned on, any attempt to login will go to the Time Capsule and not to the server.
If I turn File Sharing OFF in Time Capsule, I can than map port 548 to the IP of the server machine and users can properly login into the server again.
Before I go to sleep, I always put my Mac in sleep mode. But about 90% of the time it wakes up about 2 or 3 seconds later, and I have to put it back to sleep again.
Why is this happening and how can I resolve the issue?
After installing 10.6.1 I am facing a problem with part of the keyboard shortcuts(the part I have checked).
In the application part I found the shortcuts I have configured in 10.5. But, now they are not functional.
I have tried to assigned this commands other shortcuts but they won't work.
I suppose there is something to configure to make these shorts cut to work.
