Windows On Mac :: Getting Hard Drive Space Back - After Deleting Boot Camp Partition

I recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? I really need to free up space on the windows partition of my Mac so that I can install certain software I need in order to complete a project due really soon. What would be the best way to accomplish this (I'd rather not increase the partition w/ a third party app)? I was thinking the best is to eliminate unnecessary files that I am pretty certain were installed as part of the Vista install so that I can recover as much HDD space on the windows partition as possible, but don't know what I can eliminate safely? Can someone please offer some ideas and very basic steps of where to find any of the items you reference?

I'm thinking about installing Windows 7 on my hard drive using Bootcamp. I'd like to know if in the future I decide to remove windows, am I able to remove the partition and revert back to the full hard drive space or not?

I have on my hard drive a Leopard partition and a Windows 7 partition. I am looking to delete the Windows partition and then have the full hard drive as one Leopard partition, hopefully without any reformatting. Firstly when I installed the Windows partition I did so through bootcamp. I also have parallels 4.0 and so I was able to set up a virtual machine (VM) of this bootcamp partition. I want to now completely get rid of windows on my machine though I am not sure of the best way to do so. I guess working backwards is best: delete the parallels VM then delete the bootcamp partition? Is this the best way to do it? Will the deleted space on my hard drive be converted to space on my Leopard partition?
(I wish to get rid of windows because I am having problems with my mac sleeping. I just want to see if windows is the culprit. Hopefully it is as I have tried everything else including an SMC reset, short of reformatting and installing.) I have backups of everything btw.

After deleting windows 7, I went back into boot camp to merge partitions and after that operation completed, the 32gb of space that was used for the partition was gone. I tried using the disk utility to find second partition but can't, it only recognizes the partition that mac osx is on and says it is 120gb capacity when hard drive is 150 gb. I would like to format the entire hard drive and have it as one partition again

not luck finding an answer with search function or google. just covering my bases here. I'm running a Macbook Pro 13" with Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I made my partition 30GB when installing Windows, thinking it would be more than enough for what I needed, especially after reading this. Quote: I opted for 20GB, which left me with just a bit over 16GB to use after installing Windows 7. from: [URL:...] So I figured 30GB would mean I would have up to 26 GB of free space to play with after install. My problem is, I only have 12.5GB free space left over to play with and seemingly my Windows 7 installation is what, 17GB? I'm sort of thinking maybe for whatever reason there's a copy of my Windows 7 installation files somewhere on the partition that didn't get deleted, or all the expanded files used for installation are still sitting somewhere. Before I go ahead and delete the partition and reinstall Windows 7 again, I'd like to know if Windows7 is actually that bloody big and why on the guide I read it says it's only 4GB?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 and can't get the boot camp assistant to partition my drive. The drive in question is 500GB with over 200GB free space. I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

Sorry I know there are ways like using mac drive to do tis but it wouldn't work on my windows. I want to be able to browse my Mac hard drive while using Boot Camp, I have Windows 7 installed on Boot Camp.

I'm building a custom computer that I would like to run both OSX and Windows 7 on. At the moment I am trying to decide between installing 1 2TB hard drive or 2 1TB hard drives. I would preferably do the latter since I would like each OS to be on its own drive. OSX will be my primary OS. If I go for the 2 drive option they will be 2 seperate drives, not in a RAID config. Getting OSX onto the machine is simple enough for me if not a little roundabout. My main concern is Windows 7. Will bootcamp allow me to install Windows to it's own dedicated drive without having to partition the OSX drive? In my case would I even need to use bootcamp? Would holding down the "alt" key as done with bootcamp detect a second bootable disk even if Windows was not installed through bootcamp?

I partitioned my hard drive to install windows. I rebooted, loaded up the windows disc. And then realized my disc only had one partition. I quit the windows installer without installing windows, went into boot mode and I can only see my bootcamp partition. Is there any way to get my osx partition back?

Running a 2010 MBP Core i5 2.4GHz. I had Windows 7 originally installed. Gave me wireless problems and I gave up. Erased the partition. Installed Windows XP and everything was fine.
I got a new copy of W7 Professional x64. I installed it "over" the existing XP, though it erased the partition anyways (I don't care about that).The new 7 install has been giving me the same wireless problems. I downloaded and installed the Broadcom driver. Gave me a BSOD and restarted the computer. Now I have a BSOD on start up, too. On the OSX side of things, it no longer shows any Boot Camp hard drive. It doesn't recognize it at all. Though when I hold the option key on boot, it still shows the Windows install.
1. How do I fix the BSOD problem? (All caused by installing the driver)
2. Where the heck is the Boot Camp hard drive/partition?

I just don't want to waste too much of my 1TB storage; that my iMac 24" will have - for Windows Boot Camp.
I guess I'll run Vista 32-bit and plan to install three to five games, maybe Unreal Tournament III, Bioshock.. Bioshock 2 when it's released.
So it's basically a Windows Boot Camp for gaming and I plan to uninstall games after I've finished with them.

I just purchased a new iMac (2.66 c2d & 4gb of ram), Parallels 4, and Windows XP. I would like to get great performance whenever I use Windows XP and would like to know which installation procedure would help accomplish that.
Would Parallels provide me with a better user experience by installing Windows directly via Parallels OR by having Parallels utilizing a Boot Camp Partition? Which is better and why? Also, how much memory should I allocate to Parallels/Windows XP?

I plan to copy my entire Windows partition from my Mac, delete old partition, make a new Windows partition (~500GB), copy it over onto that partition, and go!Do I have that right? All I need to know is what I should use to do the copying? Or cloning I should say.

About a month ago I partitioned my HDD, installed XP and then found no need for it and then erased the partition using boot camp.
I decided to install XP again, so I opened Boot Camp, and partitioned the HDD 69GB for MAC and 70GB for Windows. I clicked partition and then it was partitioning and then I got a message saying to restart my MAC. I held the button down restarted the mac, and then went to boot camp again to join up the partitions, but there is no option for that, I can only partition the HDD again. The thing is that the partition is created I had like 140 free and now I have 60...which means the 70GB is partitioned but nothing is on it.

I've been trying to run boot camp on my black Macbok and have been halted with a Boot camp error message: "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It then tells me to back up my disk and boot up from my Leopard DVD, and restore to a "journaled" volume. Now, I've checked, and my HDD is already journaled. I've run "verify disk" and everything seems to be working okay. I've read that sometimes having things related to Parallels on the computer can create this error, and so I've deleted all things Parallells and am still getting the same error. I do, however, have Fusion (though I've deleted that Windows partition.)
I'm hesitant to follow the directions further, for I have nothing to back my disk up to and my Leopard DVD has gone MIA.
Can anybody give me a hand?

After letting Windows 7 install (with empty, unpartitioned space) it created a 100MB recovery partition (WinRE) which seemed okay. But I can't mount the NTFS partition in OS X now. It fails to recognize it. It sees the unrecognizable WinRE partition and seems to not look any further (that's my guess, at least).
Picture attached from Disk Utility of the space that SHOULD contain TWO separate partitions. One for WinRE, the other an NTFS partition for Windows 7.

I used Boot Camp to setup a partition for installing Windows. I no longer need the partition nor Windows. How can I delete that partition and make it useful for my laptop?
I'd like to have it as just one big hard drive rather than it showing up as 2 separate hard drives. I believe it's called extend the hard drive if I'm correct.

I used Boot Camp to install Win 7 x64 on a partition, and I got the OS and the drivers to work just fine. (I also have it installed on a Parallels Virutal machine, but I needed the dedicated partition for work.)
My only problem is that when I boot into Win 7, I get a screen that has a cursor flashing for about 2 and a half minutes. After that time, the Windows logo appears and it boots just fine. Is this common, or am I missing something here? It behooves me that it takes around 3 to 3 and a half minutes for Win 7 to boot up after hitting the power button.

I need to use some software for my course at university and typically it's windows only so I created a boot camp partition and after what's weeks and weeks of trouble getting it to work properly, which I decided was down to Windows 7 I deleted the partition and now I want to create another for XP but I get the error:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"
I've been searching Google for a while and had a suggestion that I defrag my HD so I have done but it hasn't helped. I really don't want to wipe my Hard Drive to get this to work.

Summary: Can't mount Win7 partition in OSX. NTFS-3G installed.
So I finally got around to installing Win 7 on my iMac through boot camp. During the install I deleted the partition BC created and reformatted. (I've now learned this is a bad way to do things and I should have just hit 'format' - as I understand that would have left me with the Boot Camp configuration all OK on the Mac end of things). I did the whole delete-the-ati-drivers nonsense and it's installed & running well on Win7. What I can't do now is mount my windows 7 partition in Disk Util so I can write some files to the partition in Snow Leopard (or mount the disk for VM/Parallels). NTFS-3G is installed. Is there a way to get this fixed so that I can accomplish without reinstalling Win7 (again)?

I have a new MPB 15" i5 High-Res. I have VMWare fusion running a vm that I use for work. However, I would like to create a boot camp partition for just gaming.
I am looking to upgrade my hard drive to 500GB. The question is: If I create my boot camp partition now, can I just clone it to the new hard drive, or will I have to start over?
Is it as simple as just copying everything over, or should I just wait a few months until I get a new hard drive?
