When i strart my macbook up since a week the dvd drive starts running as if there is a dvd in there but there isnt.
This accured after i burned a couple of dvd's
What is the problem?
Why does my computer start running loud at different times of using it? It is random and not always when it is getting hot. Is this normal or do i need to call Apple to replace my computer?

The other night, my MacBook Pro's fans started running at high speed when the computer was asleep. Loud enough to wake me up. And this just kept on going until I finally decided to turn the computer off. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?

I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen. Â
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc driveÂ

I have the 20inch intel imac running leopard. Out of nowhere it started going very slow, spinning wheel every other click. Then just freezes. And now I can't start the computer again. It stops at the grey screen with the apple symbol like its loading but never does. I've tried unplugging the whole thing then again got a blinking question mark folder. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac intel from 2009.. the computer is used only for simple internet exploring, word documents, emails... etc. The hard drive has 140GB of free space, and I have erased the free disk space with 1 pass.The computer runs SO slow to the point where it's almost unusable. To me, it feels like a memory issue, even though the programs that are used require very minimal memory... I tried ejecting the RAM stick blowing on it and popping it back in, but no luck... It has 1GB of ram total. Â

Tried holding down the shift bar and got a loading bar at one attempt then just the same spinning wheel and left if for about 10 minutes but nothing.Â

My 27" iMac, running OS 10.6.8, has started running slowly when loading Apps and when running Safari. Also, when powered, on It has started stopping on the grey screen before the Apple logo displays. To get past this I must turn the Mac off and then back on.

I have a Early 2008 Mac Pro running Lion. Its been running well but then last night it froze while I was on the internet. Pretty rare that this happens so I held the power off button and turned it off. Turned it back on and it made the chime noise, apple logo came up, a grey spinning wheel came up for about 30 seconds and then it stopped spinning and the computer froze there. Â
I tried a bunch of different things. I tried rebooting in safe mode, Recovery mode, From time machine external hard drive, Tried booting in the Windows partition that I have (its on the same as the boot drive I'm trying to boot in Lion off of). Â

When I plug the disk in an USB port in the MBP, the light that indicates operation starts blinking but very lighltly colored and the disk is not recognized by the computer. I have put data on it using iMac Snow Leopard. I have plugged the disk into a MBP running Snow Leopard and it works. I have also tried another Lion (older MBP) and it also works.Â
How come the disk is not mounted or shown in Disk Utility. Can it be a power issue?
I have noticed there a lot of similar posts in the forum and none has been satisfactorily solved. Is this a mayor Lion bug? If yes, how can I downgrade to Snow Leopard?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 15" MB Pro, 2.66, 8gb ram, Intel Core i7 processor, OS 10.6.8, a year or so old. I'm having trouble with a Lacie d2 Quadra v3 7200rpm drive. At first I thot it was the drive but now believe it's something with the mac since when hooked up to my old MB Pro I don't have this problem. When copying from the Lacie to another drive and sometimes when unmounting I get a message saying it can't unmount because it is in use by another application. But I am not running any other application, at least not knowlingly.
I would guess that a program(s) is accessing the drive without my knowledge (and perhaps performing indexing operations?) and I would like to find out which program(s), and how I can stop it. When I go to Preferences>Accounts>Login Items I see VMWare Fusion Helper (unchecked), and iTunesHelper and CNQL2405_Button Manager (both checked). Could any of these be responsible? I wonder if iTunes being used to backup my iPhone has created a problem, or separately if iCloud, Life or iSync or another app that could index might be creating issues.
I am just a new user of macbook air. My macbook don't read the usb neither it's in the disk utility.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running a late 2008 Macbook Pro. I exhausted my efforts to clear up unneeded data on the internal drive and still found I needed more. So, I bought a Hitachi 500gb drive which others had purchased and used in their MBP. The drive installed fine and I was able to restore everything from a Time Machine backup so that the system booted up on the new drive as it would have before.
Trouble is, most applications no longer work. Safari, Mail, iCal, QuickSilver and Onyx I know for sure won't start up. I get this error message:

I tried reinstalling a couple of apps but they all still delivered the same error message. Also, opening the Dashboard crashes Finder and the Dock.
Is there something I did wrong in upgrading the drive? Is there some way I can fix this without having to start everything over? Is there ANY way to transfer all of my data and settings and everything over to the new hard drive? Or will I be forced to do a fresh install of MacOS?
Also, FYI--Google Chrome seems to work fine. Thus my ability to post this question on the forum.
When I start my macbook If I don't hold the options key it goes straight to an apple than circle with line through it. If I hold options key I get two hard drives one that says just hard drive one that says windows. Windows seems to work fine other than the missing drivers for the Ethernet, wireless airport, and a few others. I have tried everything. I for some reason cannot get to the mac side. It doesn't even show up and nothing relating to bootcamp shows up. I split the partitions 35G to windows the rest to "mac" side. I would be just as happy with installing the drivers if I could get them installed I know very little about Mac's and should have left well enough alone.

I'm relatively new to Mac, only had mine for 6 months. Everything's going well and it's working fine, however, on 3 occasions in the last 2 months, when I've turned it on, before it goes to the white screen with the circling loading icon, it's made me click on the 'untitled' icon of my hard drive (at least I think that's what it is). The computer doesn't seem to run slower or encounter any other problems following this, I'm just a bit concerned as there doesn't seem to be any reason for it. I don't have Windows as an optional operating system etc.

What happened is that I had this Hitachi drive in my PC laptop running Windows 7. Last night I got my MBP and decided to put that Hitachi drive in macbook, then format it and install OS X. Once i put the hard drive in and tried to start MBP i kept getting Windows Recovery Screen because MBP was trying to boot from hard drive directly. Since this is my first ever Mac I didn't know what key to press to be able to choose from DVD. On one of the attempts I actually hit "Proceed Windows normally" and it gave me blue fatal screen saying it was not possible...........
I would like to create a start-up disk with disk first aid on a flash drive in case my hard drive fails.

I have been trying to download the new Yosemite update and kept getting an error message regarding the download. When I finally figured out what was going on, it appears that I don't have very much room on my hard drive to allow Yosemite to download. As you can see, the large problem is found in the movies and other categories.This brings me to my question.
1.) How can I clear up the 'other' clutter effectively, despite not knowing what falls into the 'other' category?
2.) Without having an external hard drive, is there a way to transfer movie purchases from iTunes to either USB drives or something simple to free up some more space? I don't want to outright delete anything, as I'm afraid that I'd lose the purchase, and therefore, the money spent. However, I'm not opposed to getting an inexpensive external hard drive.
I don't have a CD drive--just 2 USB ports and 1 for a memory card, so hopefully that won't inhibit storage options.

I replaced my hard drive after it crashed. I formatted the new drive and installed mavericks from a bootable flash drive. I first tried installing lion over the internet, it took over 40 hours to load on an ethernet cable and quit when it was 98% done saying it could not download additional components. I then tried the flash drive thing, which was just as painful as a process. It would not install on my hard drive, saying the partition was damaged and needed to be repaired, however disk utility could not repair it.
I recreated the partition about 50 times and it never worked. Then I erased the hard drive and started over, and mavericks was able to install. I used my computer for about an hour, setting everything up and what not. I then opened my computer for the first time since, and nothing would work. It wouldn't even restart or shut down. So I forced the power off and when I turned it back on I saw the flashing file with a question mark again.

I'm using bootcamp assistant to try and partition my hard drive, but it gives me an error saying it cannot partition it because of unmovable files or something along those lines. Is there any way to get around it, and if I do use my OSX install disk and run disk utility to repair the drive will my files be deleted?
