I'm looking to pimp up my newly bought 2.66 13"mbp. My budget goes up to around $200, so I can either choose 8GB RAM or 80GB SSD. Which do you think is better? And, which brand should I get for the RAM

I just bought a slightly used 2011 MBP MD313LL/A that has Lion installed. This is my first macbook (I have an iMac) I need to take Lion off and install Snow Leopard to be compatible with my current software. Any suggestions to the safest way to do this? I will be installing VmFusion 4 to run my Windows XP.

It's been a while since I've been to these forums but I've come across another issue.
I bought this refurbished Macbook from Apple on November 26, 2008 (model MB061LL/B).
I would like to set up a mac pro using Slots 1 & 2 for RME ADAT digital audio cards and move the graphics card (geforce GT 120 512mb) to slot 3 or 4 so that I can maximize slot speeds for multiple audio playback via logic. Is this possible?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the 13" MacBook Unibody with the 250 GB HDD. I wanted to replace that with my Seagate Freeagent Go 500 GB external HDD. I took off the enclosure and replaced the 250 gb with the 500 gb but the computer won't recognize the new 500gb HDD. All I get is a blinking question mark during start up which I know stands for HDD issues. The 500 gb HDD is working fine btw, I tested it after I took it out of the enclosure. It is a Serial ATA 2,5" and works just fine. Is the Macbook 13" Unibody not supporting 500 gb HDDs maybe? I checked the specs for the MacBook Pro 13" which is supposed to be the same as the one I have and it does say that it supports 500gb HDD.

I have just erased my hard drive (after backing up) and installed Mac OS X Snow leopard from my install disk, I then copied all my files over from the backup (using time machine) and it said everything was successful and that i should login with my password.
However, the password i had previously used did not work and neither did leaving it blank or anything else i could think of so i booted using the install disk and reset my password. I restarted and couldn't get past either a blank blue screen or more often a grey screen with a small wheel on it. I tried logging in with safe mode and got to the login screen but my keyboard didn't work (despite being able to hold shift to boot in safe mode) and though i could move my mouse, i couldn't click on anything.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, Repairing the disk and its disk permissions but nothing changes.

My hard drive crashed after about a year and a half. So I bought a new one and installed it myself. When I turn on my mac now and hold C with the install disk in the drive it just spins for a while below the apple and then goes to the gray please restart your computer screen.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a 13" white MacBook that is about three years old. Recently, the Combo Drive stopped reading CD-Rs (possibly all discs in general, but I only ever use it to burn CDs, so I wouldn't have ever known), so I decided to try to install a new Super Drive myself.
Following a guide on [URL], I installed the new drive, but when I turned my computer back on, it was not recognizing the drive at all. System Profiler was saying "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, check that they are connected and powered on." I was then able to reinstall my old Combo Drive, which my computer recognized immediately. Thinking that I may have just not connected something tightly the first time, I tried a second time. Same thing happened.
So, my question is, is there anything I may be missing or does this definitely mean the drive is defective? I just want to make sure I'm not sending back a functional drive before I go ahead and do so.
I have installed 4GB of extra ram to my MBP 13" (late 2010) to increase the performance of virtual machines. Though the VirtualBox doesn't recognize the 8GB of ram when i try to create a new machine for Windows XP 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't tried it with other operating systems. I have also reinsalled the VirtualBox but it didn't work.

Migration Assistant works fine until minutes to go and then "hangs" have left it connected for hours with "less than "X" minutes to go" and no files get transferred. On my third attempt this time without transferring applicaitons.

Is this something I should be worried about? I thought that SSDs isn't mechanical as a traditional HDD so I reckon the sound must be something else but I cannot pinpoint what it is.

my 2009 13" MBP (OS X 10.6.8, Optiarc DVD RW AD-5960S) won't accept some purchased/rented DVDs. The drive makes funny noises (mrrrrrp-mrrrrp....) for 1-2 minutes and then ejects the DVD. The DVD cannot be ejected manually during that time.OS and software are up to date, lens is clean, hardware has been checked, same DVDs will play on my linux box, on stand-alone players and on several win boxes. The problem occurs with some DVDs only (1/3 of all rented/purhased DVDs). Some won't play in 9 out of 10 tries and then suddenly will.Is there a solution for this?

I bought a 13" 2.53 GHz Macbook Pro on June 15. I exchanged it for a new one on June 25th because the graphics would randomly distort. I didn't have the box for the first one so I did a laptop for laptop direct exchange.I noticed two small dents on the bottom right corner on the bottom case a few days ago and took it to the Apple Store to exchange again (still within 14 days) because I am certain that I did not cause them. The laptop has been sitting on my desk or in a padded sleeve in a padded laptop compartment. he store manager at the Apple store was incredibly rude. He kept stating that the laptop could not have left the box with the two dents. I mentioned getting a laptop for laptop exchange and he again said there was no way it would've left the box like that. He was also incredibly surprised that I just noticed the dents. I don't do anything that needs the laptop to have the bottom case facing up.
