OS X V10.7 Lion :: Free Upgrade With Recently Bought MacBook?
Jun 11, 2012
I was wondering, with the new announcements, will there be a free upgrade for people who just bought a mac recently to Mountain Lion? I thought this was the case when Lion came out...
i recently bought 8gb of ram and installed it in my mid 2010 13' macbook pro, but whenever i start my computer it freezes at the apple sign in the startup. I just put back my default 4gb of ram back into my computer and it runs fine. Any suggestions?
just recieved my refurbished macbook air (2011) 2 weeks ago.Does it qualify for free upgrade to mountain lion ? The website only talked about "qualifying new mac system set..."
i bought a macbook pro on 16 june 2012 in india. There is this free upgrade program for people buying mac on or after 11 june. should i apply for it now or after mountain lion is released...??
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), mountain lion
I wanted to download iBook Author. But it forces me to upgrade to Lion. If I update now, will I get the next OS i.e Mountain Lion for free, in view of the near release of Mountain Lion?
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I have a 2009 imac running intel core duo 2.66ghz processor, 4gb ram and 256mb graphics. It currently runs os x 10.5.8 and I wish to upgrade it to the latest operating system (lion?) I recently purchased a macbook pro 3 inch running lion. A friend told me I'd be able to upgrade my imac too as 'apple doesn't charge people twice.'
1) Is this true? and if so, how do I obtain the free upgrade? 2) should I wait until mountain lion is available? 3) Is the computer going to be capable of running the latest OS or will it need a ram upgrade?
I bought my Mid-2011 iMac a few weeks before Lion came out...so I was eligible for a free upgrade. Now, unfortunately, I am having problems with my iMac so I want to reinstall the OS. However, I only have the Snow Leopard disc to reinstall. Can I still upgrade to Lion for free? Would it be in my App Store as I already upgraded so I can just re-upgrade?
I think i got pretty luck here but you guys let me know. Bought a Rev A macbook air on craigslist for like 900 a few months back, machine came with apple care and a few extras.
Then the enter key was sticking up slightly more on one side so i figured i have the support might as well take it in. The key was sticking up from a pervious repair. So the took it and fixed it. when i got it back the keys didn't light up and the sound was gone. I called and when i bought it back they gave me a new Rev B macbook air with an extra power adapter. Needless to say i was very happy.
I have heard of this happening to other people is it starting to become common?
I've decided to switch my current HDD with a bigger one. I currently got 160gb wich is a little bit tight. I also have a WD Passport 160gb but I use it as a TM Backup. I don't really know if I need 7400 RPM. I use frequently Adobe PS CS3 and MSN, iTunes, Firefox... I also plan on getting some games like COD4 and things like that. So far here are the drives I've been looking:
5400RPM 320GB WesternDigital @ OWC for approx. 75.99$CA: [URL]
7200RPM 320GB WesternDigital @ NewEgg.ca for 84.99$CA: [URL]
5400RPM 500GB WesternDigital @ OWC for approx. 112.62$CA: [URL]
Right now, my 160gb contains 148gb of stuff and I've got some movies on my brother's external HDD. I don't know if 320gb would be enough or if I'm gonna be tempt in 6 months-1 year on getting more space?
So thanks to the info on this forum, I think I'm going to take the plunge with a new internal HD. My question: what do you use for a static free surface when you actually open the thing up and do the upgrade? I'd hate to zap my machine in the process of improving it. I've upgraded the RAM with no problem just on a table top and I've also upgraded the hell out of an old G5, but this is the first time I'm really going inside the notebook.
I have read on apple news that apple is offering free software upgrade for leopard to snow leopard.. is that true? I followed their link and nothing is available?
It has been wiped clean, back to OS 9, Power Mac AGP Graphics, firewire slot.
I want to give it to my bro for net use, itunes, word processing and basic stuff.
what would be the best way to go about upgrading? Should i do leopard or and older os X? will I need more ram (256) and i believe it is 500 mhz, would that be good?
like I said, it's just for basic stuff but I was wondering if these machines still work good.
Recently I upgraded Lion to 10.7.3. Since that time I have been having a lot of trouble with my internet connection. I keep losing the connect and have to go to diagnostics and turn it back on. Is anyone else having this problem?Â
I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7.4 from 10.7.3 recently. Around the same time (shortly afterward, anyway), I started having a new problem. As of a few days ago, one of my Gmail accounts has stopped downloading the Inbox. I can log into the Gmail web site with that Gmail account and it shows the latest mail, but it does not show up in Apple Mail. I have done these steps:Â
1. Get New Mail
2. Synchronize account
3. Disable and re-enable the account in Preferences
4. Checked the account shows up in the Activity window when I do these things
5. Quit and restarted mail
6. Took the account offline and online
7. Checked Connection Doctor
8. One other thing I can't remember what it's called, but it opens another window with a selector for all the accounts at the top and lets you look at various things
9. I can send mail successfully with that Gmail accountÂ
All my other Gmail accounts (3-4 others) seem to be working fine, but of course the one that's broken is the one I use most often. The mail is showing up fine on my iPad and iPhone as well, so it's just Apple Mail that is "messing up."Â
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.3), Aperture 3.2.3
I recently did a clean install of OS X Lion 10.7 on my Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook (13" Late 2006 model). Since then I have experiencing significant instability with the OS. It has crashed several times now, and crashes every time I try to update the OS software or use Time Machine. Also, the fan is running at a high speed at all times. I've read that there is some preliminary stuff the OS has to do once installed that may take a while. Could this be the source of this instability? I'm confident that updating the OS would be beneficial, but it crashes every time I try to do so.Â
I get the following message when I use syncmate & Finder to transfer files from my MacBook to my Samsung Omnia. I actually have 7gb of storage left when I get this message. It has only been a problem since the SL upgrade.
The item ClearTemp-v1.2.1.CAB cant be copied because there isnt enough free space.
So I insert the disc on my mac...nothing happens. So I go into the disc click on the adobe LR 4 .pkg...and it asks to pick a program to "open it with"!what do I do? I don't know what to pick...never had to before. I picked Adobe reader...and ofcourse that didn't work.
I bought my mbp last summer. Like the first month, it started freezing. when it freeze, I can't do anything but turn it off and on again. Now, I took my laptop to the store about five times for same problem-could have been more if I had time to go to apple store. They reset the computer at first, did many disk repairing, replaced with new hard drive, replaced with new hard drive cable, and did 24 hour diagnose. Still cannot figure out what is causing the problem.Since I've took my laptop so many times, I asked for replacement with new laptop. They told me that they cannot do anything unless I contact apple care and have evidences. But even if I have evidences, apple store have to able to duplicate the problem. Another problem is that it happens so randomly. I could be using just textedit, itunes, or nothing.
