OS X V10.7 Lion :: Newly Purchased Kingston 19-in-1 Card Reader Is Not Recognized By The Mac?
May 30, 2012I just received my Kingston 19-in-1 card reader and connected it directly to the back of my iMac (iintel) running on OS X Lion 10.7. It did not show up. I checked Disk Utility and it shows the following:

I am positive the problem is due to the MS-DOS (FAT 32) file system (my other laptop is a PC running on Windows Vista), but I don't know how to fix this. Since i did not want to lose any files on my CF card, I took a blank formatted card (formatted in camera) and took 2 photos. When connecting the reader to the Mac it did not register.
I have a Sandisk 8-in-1 card reader which worked just fine on the PC, and the Kingston reader also works on the PC (after i tried all the above ). I have read other forum discussions whee people say that the Kingston card reader works on their Mac By the way, I checked on two Apple Stores to try and get tech support and got "voice mail jail" which is most disappointing. I suspect this is Apple company policy forcing me to make an appointment (which I am willing to do, but for heavens sake, don't cut me off on the phone!)

MacBook :: Newly Installed HDD Not Recognized
Aug 5, 2009I have the 13" MacBook Unibody with the 250 GB HDD. I wanted to replace that with my Seagate Freeagent Go 500 GB external HDD. I took off the enclosure and replaced the 250 gb with the 500 gb but the computer won't recognize the new 500gb HDD. All I get is a blinking question mark during start up which I know stands for HDD issues. The 500 gb HDD is working fine btw, I tested it after I took it out of the enclosure.It is a Serial ATA 2,5" and works just fine. Is the Macbook 13" Unibody not supporting 500 gb HDDs maybe? I checked the specs for the MacBook Pro 13" which is supposed to be the same as the one I have and it does say that it supports 500gb HDD.

Apr 8, 2012I have just erased my hard drive (after backing up) and installed Mac OS X Snow leopard from my install disk, I then copied all my files over from the backup (using time machine) and it said everything was successful and that i should login with my password.
However, the password i had previously used did not work and neither did leaving it blank or anything else i could think of so i booted using the install disk and reset my password. I restarted and couldn't get past either a blank blue screen or more often a grey screen with a small wheel on it. I tried logging in with safe mode and got to the login screen but my keyboard didn't work (despite being able to hold shift to boot in safe mode) and though i could move my mouse, i couldn't click on anything.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, Repairing the disk and its disk permissions but nothing changes.

Jun 24, 2009So, I have a 13" white MacBook that is about three years old. Recently, the Combo Drive stopped reading CD-Rs (possibly all discs in general, but I only ever use it to burn CDs, so I wouldn't have ever known), so I decided to try to install a new Super Drive myself.
Following a guide on [URL], I installed the new drive, but when I turned my computer back on, it was not recognizing the drive at all. System Profiler was saying "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, check that they are connected and powered on." I was then able to reinstall my old Combo Drive, which my computer recognized immediately. Thinking that I may have just not connected something tightly the first time, I tried a second time. Same thing happened.
So, my question is, is there anything I may be missing or does this definitely mean the drive is defective? I just want to make sure I'm not sending back a functional drive before I go ahead and do so.

May 4, 2012I have installed 4GB of extra ram to my MBP 13" (late 2010) to increase the performance of virtual machines. Though the VirtualBox doesn't recognize the 8GB of ram when i try to create a new machine for Windows XP 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't tried it with other operating systems. I have also reinsalled the VirtualBox but it didn't work.

May 20, 2012Refurbished MacBook Air. Three attempts to use migration assistant to move files from MacBook to my newly acquired Air. Migration Assistant works fine until minutes to go and then "hangs" have left it connected for hours with "less than "X" minutes to go" and no files get transferred. On my third attempt this time without transferring applicaitons.

Is this something I should be worried about? I thought that SSDs isn't mechanical as a traditional HDD so I reckon the sound must be something else but I cannot pinpoint what it is.

Nov 15, 2008The 160GB HD on my 2x2GB G5 has only got 7.9GB left due to memory intensive software: FCP, Logic 8 etc. I therefore installed a 2nd drive, a 500GB HD, bought from an Apple store. Its icon sits on the desktop, so everything is fine.
I am self-taught with everything computer and usually find answers in my computer books, but not this time.
How can I now utilize the new 500GB disk as my working disc?/Startup disc? I believe, the OS + other software must be installed on the new drive, or can it be transferred from the nearly depleted 160GB drive. I do not have much content in photos or other files on this drive, its mainly software.
I edit FCP on external LaCie drives (300+500GB)The newly installed disc does not show up on in preferences/startup disc panel, probably because it does not contain the OS.
Mac Pro :: Using Newly Installed Radeon 4870
Jun 10, 2009I bought the PC version of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and flashed it with the mac ROM. Everything went fine. I then moved the original card to slot 2 and put the new ATI card into slot one. I connected the monitor to the new ATI card and booted up. I get the apple logo, but after that, my monitor loses signal. If i plug the monitor into the original card (which is now in slot 2), it works fine. The desktop shows up. Any ideas on what is going on here? Is there anyway to check what hardware is installed in the computer? Any utilities?

Apr 30, 2012All the iTunes songs that I have purchased in the past 6 months and converted to mp3 will not play in my Harley Davidson radio. I have several mp3 CDs that I have created over the last 2 years that work just fine. The latest discs that I have tried to make (at least 6 times) will not play any new songs. The older songs on the disc play but the radio skips through the recently purchased songs that were converted to mp3 in iTunes. Odd as it only affects the recent purchases. Is there something new happening with the latest update of iTunes or the iTunes Store? BTW I have checked the MP3 button when burning, I have tried three different kinds of CD-Rs and all the usual possible troubles.

Software :: Where Is Newly Installed MS Messenger Hiding?
Feb 22, 2006I just installed Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac on an iBook with a G3, 500 Mz processor and 384 MB RAM running OS 10.3.9. One of the components was MSN Messenger version 4. When I opened it, it said a newer version was available so I downloaded and installed version 5 for Mac. But the icon in the dock continued to be for version 4 and each time I clicked on it I was prompted to once more download the newer version.
I did this several times, then deleted the version four from the applications and from the dock before reinstalling the version five. This time the messenger is on the computer but is not in the applications nor in the dock. Where is it so I can drag its icon to the dock? I know it is on the computer because when I clicked on recent items it opened, and also when I reinstalled again it opened, but I can't find where it is hiding.
Windows On Mac :: Newly Installed 7 Taking Up Too Much Space?
Nov 12, 2010So I just installed windows 7 x64 (bootcamp) on my iMac 27" mid 2010.
It seems to be taking up 11 GB more than there really is on the partition.
Partition size: 33 GB
Used space: 22 GB (in reality 11 GB)
Free space: 11 GB (in reality 22 GB)
I know for a fact that a newly installed windows 7 is not this huge.
Also I selected all the folders and checked the size and it simply doesn't match what the Drive Properties tells me.
OS X :: No Stack Options On Newly Created Alias
Sep 20, 2009I created an alias folder for my Applications. I put the alias on my Dock but when I click on the alias it will open Finder window. I would like it to show my applications in Stack mode. I have copied another folder and put that on Dock and it appears fine with Stack options. I have no idea why my alias of Applications opens Finder.

Jul 2, 2010Whenever I transfer data from my MBP HDD to an External HDD, the folder it creates to copy that data to has a created date of, wait for it.....14th February 1946 at 8:34am. And how to change it so that the dates are correct (i.e. today!) When the folder finishing copying all the dates are fine. It's just that bit in-between whilst it's copying.

Mar 23, 2012I notice that any new apps I try and install aren't launching.I tried to install the 30 day trial of Textmate and when clicking on App in Applications folder the icon just bounces on the dock permenantly.Clicking it again makes it disapear form the dock. I then tried to install BetterTouchTool and when I click on that absolutely nothing happens.Any apps installed prior open up fine.I did a Repair Disk and Disk Permissions, but nothing.I know it may be a loaded question potentially based on other apps I have installed, but hoping someone else has encountered and can at least point me on the right track.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Get Any Newly-installed Application To Launch
Apr 20, 2012So everything installed on my Lion iMac works absolutely fine. However, I recently tried to re-install Appfresh (an application updater), so I used Appcleaner to uninstall it, grabbed a new download, dragged it to Applications as normal, double-clicked it.. nothing. The icon sits in my dock, and the indicator pulses, continuously, but the application never appears. It's not in the Force Quit menu, and Activity Monitor has no trace of it either.
I thought, okay, something up with Appfresh. But I've since tried a couple of other apps, and a game (Botanicula), and the exact same thing happens. I've done nothing new in the way I've installed them, opened their .dmg files, and dragged the application into Applications, completely normally, but they all do the "sit in the dock and nothing else" thing. If I left-click them once in the dock, they vanish, and that's all I hear of them. I've tried Disk Utility to do both verify and repair permissions to both the disk and the partition, but that hasn't solved the problem. I'm running the latest 10.7.3 with all patches to remove Flashback, etc.
