Apr 30, 2007My iBook will not display anything on its screen. Rather, it just remains black. One time, the screen did come on, but then shortly after booting, it flickered a lot and then went black again. A year ago, something similiar happened and when I took it to be serviced (when I had AppleCare), they had to send it away and have a new logic board installed. Now this machine is out of warrenty and and I am not sure what to do, or even if it is the same problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Jun 1, 2009Ever since the 10.5.7 update I've been getting issues with my macbook, this a new one. I've looked around google for any other similar incidents and there have been but none with a solution so I figured I would ask here. At random times my screen starts making noise, I say my screen because if I dim the brightness to zero it stops, and the brighter I get the higher the pitch, the lower brightness - lower pitch.

Jun 10, 201024" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.

Apr 5, 2007My brother's iBook G4 (I think it's a 2003 model) has a problem with the screen. When the computer is turned on, the screen stays black, although the backlight is on (the apple glows). Sometimes, on start up, the screen works normally for a random amount of time before going fuzzy and then black again.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it likely to be a problem with the hardware in the actual computer, or just the screen? Or is it a software thing?

May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

Sep 16, 2009So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

Jan 4, 2010I have a problem with my screen - when there is something black on, I can see a faint mark of a lighter colour. I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?

May 5, 2012I've had my mac for about three years now and everything was working fine. After I installed lion, I notice that this started to happen. Jun 2, 2012When my MacBook Pro 13" i5 goes into screen saver mode, which is black, it won't return to normal mode. Tried all keys, trac pad, closing the lip and re-opening it, and it won't respond. The only thing that works is holding down power button for hard shutdown, then restarting it. It has happened 8 times in the last 2 weeks.

I do like it a lot, but I have one big problem (its big to me!) and question -- about 3 times per week since purchasing the MacBook Air while working / typing on the MacBook Air, the screen just goes black fir NO apparent reason!! It is like the battery is suddenly totally OUT of any power! But, the battery has plenty of charge, and no command or other key stroke nor any other activity that should cause this black screen has been done.

MacBook Pro :: Monitor Display Not Working Fine / Horizontal Scan Lines And Black Out Occasionally
Jul 9, 2009So I had a recently purchased 17" BTO with the 7200RPM drive that worked great, but with one issue - the display would have horizontal scan lines and black out occasionally. So I called up Apple and eventually managed to get a cross-ship set up(they let me hold on to my current unit, charge my credit card and send me a second brand new 17" unit as a replacement,and then refund me for the second 17" after I send back the defective unit).
Anyway, the replacement unit looks great, but with one issue - there's a very small light dent on the bottom panel(maybe about the size of a dime). I was annoyed but don't think this is worth having to exchange, since I could probably just unscrew the panel and pop it back into place.
However, what really got to me was the fact that my replacement unit was slightly louder than my original - my original is so silent that I can't even tell it's on. However, with my replacement unit, I can hear the hard drive spinning, which is slightly annoying.
Anyway, I proceeded to restore from a time machine backup and test my replacement unit when I noticed that it would occasionally get the hard drive click + beep + freeze issue that many others who have the 7200 RPM drive seem to be facing. It's extremely annoying, and more importantly I miss the complete silence of my older unit.
My question is, while I'm still in possession of both units(which both have the exact same specs, same 7200 RPM drive, etc.), should I simply just open both up and take the silent(good) hard drive from my old unit and put it into my new one?
The click+beep freeze issue is really pissing me off, and my old unit didn't suffer from it - it's just this replacement one(doesn't make any sense).Anyway, would notice if I switched the hard drive? Would I get screwed somehow? Do they keep track of the hard drive serials or something?
I really don't want to go through the pain of sending this back, especially considering that a LOT of people are suffering from this issue, and I don't want to end up with another defective drive. I'm sick and tired of games and just want a computer that WORKS.
OS X :: Macbook Pro Gets Black Screen While Using Word And Msn?
Oct 17, 2010Just yesterday I was using my Macbook Pro - with Word and MSN in use - until it gave me a black screen. (Good thing Word auto-saved.)
The screen wasn't dimmed and the fan (or whatever was running) was still running. So I held down the power button to shut it down. When I turned it on again - and everything was okay - I thought it might have been the battery but yeah, it doesn't explain why the fan was still running.
It's fairly new. I don't play games and I rarely watch anything on it. I'm also very protective of it and don't download much... Which confuses/worries me on why a black screen would appear.
So does anyone want to share some insight on why this happened? Is it some 'normal' thing that eventually happens, because I've been looking around and found information with regards to this black screen problem and the Macbooks of those people seemed fine..

BTW, the Mac air comes with a power supply only. There is no DVD drive or thing like that. How do I re-install OS if I need to?

Apr 25, 2009I have a black macbook that I got in Dec 2007. While I am using it, the screen will randomly going completely black and I have to move towards being closed until the screen works again. I think it is a short in the screen but I am not sure.
I was hoping someone else has had a similar problem and figured out how to fix it. I was also thinking about taking it into Apple or an Apple reseller to get it looked at but I am not sure how expensive it would be.
MacBook Pro :: Getting Black Screen Upon Startup?
Oct 19, 2009Last night I was using my computer all fine. However this morning I turn it up, the white light where you push to open the lid, is on without flashing, and there is a black screen.
Please note that I have not installed any new hardware devices i.e. hard drive, ram, etc.
I tried to push the power button for like 10 seconds straight when I turned on to see if that would fix the problem but no. I can hear the hard drive starting up when I push the power button but black screen.
Could this perhaps be one of those faulty 8800 M GT nvidia gfx?
But I'm scared to take it to Apple because earlier this year, I took it apart and redid the thermal pasting and I kind of have screw drive marks on my keyboard aluminum part... It's like so obvious I opened it before. But, my 1 year coverage is already over so hope that doesn't eliminate me from getting that nvidia service in the case that it is the gfx card hardware problem?

The computer doesn't actually turn off, but when I try to get it back with my mouse it goes black. I can usually still slightly see my applications and stuff, and the fan still runs. Jul 13, 2010I have a Sylvania TV (model number SRT2420p) and a Macbook Pro. I bought a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter, DVI to RCA, and connected the yellow RCA cord to the tv. In the "game" mode where the RCA cable should be recognized, nothing is happening. I changed the display to all the different display options, and still nothing is popping up on the tv. I changed the display to 1024x640, and restarted the mbp, nothing. The mac realizes it's plugged in because it flashes the blue screen when I put it in or out, and the mouse can go off of the screen.
Is one of my adapters broken?
