OS X :: Linking Keyboard Volume Control To App Volume Controls?

Dec 14, 2008

I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this- it is a pita to adjust separate volume controls on everything. If I adjust the volume on the keyboard, the volume slider in itunes doe snot move. If I set the volume on itunes with a mouse, then come home and use the volume controls on my keyboard, I have to also manually adjust the slider in itunes. Anyway to link the two?

Intel Mac :: Volume Controls Not Working?

Apr 28, 2012

The volume controls are not working correctly. Using the volume key on the keyboard, the volume overlays comes up and goes up/down, however there is no change in volume.

Also when i cick on the volume icon in the bar at the top i can move the slider up/down but no change in volume. The only way I can change the volume is to go into system preferences.

Restarting the iMac temporarily resolves the problem, but it's not usually long before it acts up again.

OS X :: Audio Splitter(speakers And Headphone) With Independent Volume Controls?

Apr 8, 2008

I want to connect speakers and a headphone to my Imac at the same time.Since there is only one audio output in the imac, I need a audio splitter and I think I need a headphone splitter then? Now the problem is there is no volume control on my headphone and I want it at a different volume then my speakers, otherwise when I turn my speakers on and the headphones are still connected and I turn volume up loud it will ruin my headphone ( and I don't want my software volume almost down and my speaker control way up)Now I found this headphone splitter, but my question is, will the sound quality still be the same because I need the same sound quality.
I know it's a difficult story,

My question is, is this a ram thing? Should I buy for ram, will it fix it?

Is this something I should bring into Apple about?

MacBook :: Totally Turn Off Monitor?

Jun 21, 2009

I'm currently working out a plan to use my old Macbook as an AppleTV equivalent- I've found out about atv4mac and it sounds ideal. However, the laptop will spend the whole time running with the lid closed, is there any way to totally turn off the monitor? I can turn the brightness down all the way, but it's still on, seems like a bit of a waste!

MacBook Pro :: I5 - 5400 Totally Silent?

May 10, 2010

I hesitate and I went for the MBP I5 2,4 with 7200 HDD (because of the 100 euros ecology bonus and the education reduction) but now I obviously hear my HDD (wich is like a little fan noise by the way) and I checked from store the 5400 is very silent. I assume it s normal because the noise isn't high but i m really sensitive to it. do you all hear your 7200 HDD ? are the 5400 TOTALLY silent ?

MacBook Pro :: Not Powering Up At All - Totally Dead

Jun 4, 2012

I plugged in a mobile battery power station to charge today, [URL] and my Macbook pro 13 suddenly died. It will not turn on via the power button, there's no lights on the battery indicator on the side of the Macbook and nothing at all on the power adapter. I've checked the fuse in the plug and that's ok. Are there any internal fuses that could have blown in both the macbook and the power supply. I charged it before with no problems. Been through lots of these solution pages, but I'm totally stuck

MacBook :: GUI Totally Unresponsive - Computer Just Freezes

Jun 5, 2009

When I go back on the computer in the morning, the computer seems to choke on everything - anything I do gets me a beachball (click OK on the "you have been disconnected from AIM" dialog? Beachball. Trying to open a window in an app? Beachball. Trying to open a menu? Beachball). After a few minutes, the computer just freezes and so can't do anything about it. I had to hard reboot and the same thing happens after the start up. This happened a few times, but today was the worst - the computer just froze. I can move the mouse, but that's it. The GUI is totally unresponsive. I had to hard reboot to get out.

MacBook :: Aluminum Cover Almost Totally Demagnetized?

May 28, 2010

My macbook's magnet has died, or so it seems. It barely holds the top case and bottom case together, and does not "snap" shut until they are less than 7 mm apart. if i turn it upright the two side pop about 5mm apart and do not close until at less than about a 60 degree angle to the desk. Is there a way to remagnetize them, does this warrant a trip to the apple store, or do i just deal with it? The computer is 14/12 months old, manufacturing/purchase.

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard And Trackpad Freezes - Totally Unresponsive

Apr 19, 2009

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz from last Fall (not the new Unibody) that has a keyboard and trackpad that freezes, meaning it becomes totally unresponsive, with no warning for no reason. Either I carry an external keyboard and mouse, or, my only recourse is to hold the power button down and restart the machine. When it reboots, sometimes the keyboard works and sometimes it does not. If other folks have had or are having this problem, would you please step up and say so? I'm tired of Apple support people telling me they have never seen this problem when there are so many others who have written to the forum with the same or similar issues.

MacBook Pro :: Totally Blank Screen After Sound When Powered On

Dec 12, 2014

When I power on, my macbook pro does nothing (blank screen) after the sound.

System:

-Macbook Pro Retina 13' (Mid 2014) 256GB SSD, i5, 8Gig RAM
-Yosemite (10.10)

I tried to install Windows 8.1 using bootcamp assistant on Yosemite. After installing Windows 8.1, it asked me to restart.

When I restarted it stuck on blank screen. I've heard the startup noise but nothing happened. I tried many startup key combinations such as; Command(Alt), cmd+R,cmd+V,T, but the screen is always blank. Although the screen light is, on the screen is totally blank.

I did resetting SMC, and also I did cmd+alt+P+R (I've heard 4 times startup sound) but the screen is always blank. Nothing happens. I can only shut down by pressing the power button for 4 seconds. As a result when I power on, I hear the sound but nothing happens. Nothing on the screen.

What I did before was: The system is a brand new mac. I bought it 1 week ago.

1- I tried to install windows 8.1 using bootcamp. But failed. Because windows installer gave me an error that windows can not be installed on GPT partition.(I have also MacBook Air and MacMini with bootcamp Windows 8.1 working fine.)
2- Then I rebooted using Alt key then booted to MacOSX and deleted the windows part and many combinations. But failed. The error was always the same GPT error.
3- I reinstalled Yosemite tried all the steps but failed with the same error (GPT error)
4- We had another same macbook pro. And we could install windows 8.1 easily.
5- I compared the two machines in windows setup. The problematic mac had first partition labelled EFI.
6- Then after a few hours. I tried to install again. And saw that the EFI label was gone!. But I don't know how this is happened.
7- I was happy and started to install windows. After installing the system gone!!.

MacBook :: Reboots Again After Its Done Booting Up?

May 19, 2010

I have an old black MB 2.16 ghz C2D. At times, it locks up and randomly reboots. Sometimes, it gets crazy and reboots again after its done booting up. Sometimes, I get this gray screen that says I have to hold the power button as well. I don't really notice the laptop getting warm at all or the fans turning on that much. I just reinstalled the entire OS and Snow Leopard. I just got a new MBP, so I haven't really been using that one as much (or at all). So, it's hard to say if that fixed it. My applecare runs out on 5/29/2010. And if it's a hardware problem, I'd like to get it fixed prior to my warranty expiring.

MacBook Pro :: Core Duo Turns Itself Off/reboots On Its Own?

Oct 4, 2009

I've been digging around for a couple weeks now for information on what may be happening to my MBP. I've tried numerous solutions, but don't seem to be able to get the computer to STAY ON. Here's my story:

A couple weeks ago, my room mate was using the computer. She closed it to put it to sleep, and left it on my bed. When I went to turn it on, the screen was completely black and the indicator light on the open button was a steady grey. The computer was so hot it was painful to the touch. I unplugged it, hard powered it off, and let it sit, thinking it was an overheating issue.

Since then, the damn thing won't stay on. Initially, it would intermittently just shut off. When that happened, sometimes I could boot it back up, and other times it would sound like something was whirring in the background, but the screen stayed black and the indicator light stayed solid grey. I installed SMCFan and istat to monitor/control the temp and fans.

I noticed somewhere along the way that there seemed to be some connection between episodes of shutting down and the power cord (as in, if it was jostled, the computer shut off)(I should note that my battery is at about 15% health with a full charge). Then, that power cord died (no green/amber indicator light and no connection detected). So I bought a new cable, and set about trying to fix the problem again.

Next phase, it seemed that if I moved the computer, it shut down. So I did some of the recommended fixes. I deleted the power management plist, I changed the settings to never put the computer or the display to sleep, and I turned off the quick-motion sensor that stops the hard drive. I also reset the SMC settings.

This seemed to improve the situation a little bit, insofar as now instead of getting a shut down, I am now getting complete reboots that only *sometimes* lead to the blank screen and steady grey indicator light. This does happen more frequently if I move the computer, but it can also happen if I simply leave it to run. In fact, if I send the computer into sleep-mode, and close the lid, I'm practically guaranteed a reboot.

So, then I reset the PRAM and did the hard-reboot (ctrl+opt+power) and reset the PRAM again. I am currently running Rember to test the RAM, but I'm not sure what to look out for when it finishes, or what I should do about it.

Laptops :: MacBook With OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Reboots When Left Alone?

Sep 7, 2009

First couple of times this has taken place I thought I was making a mistake or possible a power setting somewhere but finally yesterday I realised after checking all settings that my MacBook is actually rebooting and closing all apps for some reason.

Typically occurs when left alone for a hour - not every time - but at least 5 times so far this month. Has anyone else experienced this or do I just have a defect problem with the hardware? What can I do to troubleshoot this? Are there any system logs in this OS that would give me some clues if this is applicaton or hardware related?

Yesterday evening I started a Time Machine restore which was stopped in the middle because of a spontaneous reboot.

I resetted everything (SMC, PRAM, etc.) and tried again. Still reboots after apprx an hour. It doesn't run too hot (67C, 2100RPM). What can be wrong?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: 2012 Macbook Pro Crashes And Reboots Randomly?

Jun 21, 2012

I just bought my new 2012 macbook pro a couple weeks ago, and so far it has crashed and rebooted by itself four times. Three of those four times, I had only been running  a couple programs, such as Chrome and Mail, while all others were closed. the entire computer will freeze for about 6-7 seconds (no response to mouse movement/keyboard) and then shut down and reboot.

Is this a bug with OS X Lion? or the new macbook Pro? or my macbook pro specifically indicating there's some sort of defect?
