MacBook Air :: Reboots Automatically Usually When Using Safari Or Skype
Jun 11, 2012
My new Macbook Air (bought one mounth ago) reboots automaticaly. It happens randomly, usually when I'm using Safari or Skype. It shuts down without any warning and log-out process, and it's keyboard keeps unresponsive about 1-2 minutes and then boots up automatically. I'm not using any "Disk cleaning app". I have reinstalled OS but unexpected reboots keeps happening.

I recently downloaded Skype on my MacBookPro, and it launches automatically every time I turn on the computer. I don't see a way to prevent this in the preferences. Anyone know how I can turn that off?

I have a macbook 2.2GHz Core 2 Due with 4GB of ram...
Skype is the app that keeps crashing the most, Safari and Firefox crash from time to time as well... and Mail.app crashes sometimes when Skype and Safari crash...
I already perform a fresh installation of the OS and no luck. I also kept on doing "repair disk permissions" with Disk Utility but also no luck...
The last time I performed a Tech Deluxe check and all test passed...
I think the problem can be either disk issues or faulty memory... in the worst of the worst motherboard .

On the right hand side of my desktop when I download a program it seems to put an icon or doc on the right hand side. Like right now I have a skype dmg file I can't delete as it says Skype is in use, then right above that is a seperate skype icon that even if I drag to dock it still stays on the right hand side (like a copy), then I downloaded open office again and it put the install icon there (like when you open and you drag your program to teh applications folder)

I have reached this website after scrawling to find a solution on the internet. I hope someone can help me with this problem.I have a 4 years old G4 ibook (OS 10.3.7), and have been using it for internet, skype and foto-storage mainly.Situtation:Yesterday I tried to use the internet (Firefox browser) and skype, but the skype didn't work at all. Since firefox was not working properly either, I did force quit and restarted the computer. I attempted this several times until I could use both applications (never had any problems before). However, Skype didn't work, and in the end, I could not quit firefox at all. At last I did force quit again, and saw white screen with apple icon at the centre when restarting. No time-spinning mark, the apple just sits there.
Troubleshooting that I have done:
I called up support center, and they told me that it's very likey that the computer is stopping at "'carnel" stage (I'm sorry but I don't know what this is). The possibility that it's got something to do with HD is 50/50, so I may have to send it to repairing service in the worst case. They told me to try using Disc Install CD1 to check/repair something wrong in my computer. So I followed the instructions and inserted the install CD and restart the computer with "c" key. The computer read the CD and Installer window showed up. As instructed in a manual, I used First Aid in Disc Utility, and tried "repairing disc". After a while it said "1 HFS has been repaired". It also said that Macintosh HD doesn't seem to have a problem", so I quit the disc utility and restarted the computer.
Against my expectation, the same white screen with apple came up on the screen and sits there with no other movements.I'm afraid of trying somethinig without further so I hope I can get the same story or ideas that someone here might have.

Once i installed the latest safari update and the computer restarted, my date settings were changed to December 31, 2000. Also, random programs popped up, asking if i should allow or deny them. As well, i was disconnected from the internet. I'm not quite sure what has caused this.

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Encountered problems opening a .MOV file attached to a Mail email. The file crashed. Now, none of these files will open: Mail, Safari, itunes, iChat, Google Earth, Skype. The icon bounces ONCE, then...nothing. At first I thought it was only internet-linked applications, but I am able to run Firefox browser, as well as open other applications that don't link to the internet, .I have opened similar MOV files from the same source before, and no problems.

I just recently set up Skype on my G5. I can make calls out and I even have voicemail set up. I bought an online number for people to use to call me. Unfortunately, the ringing sound of a phone does not sound when a person calls me. How do I fix this problem? I am disabled and ill.
You have fixed the problem discussed in the first paragraph. Could you please take a look at the Safari problem mentioned in the second?
The majority of my calls are long-distance or long local ones and this is killer to a Cell phone bill. I have not been able to get "Earthlink Truevoice" or "Vonage" to work because Safari wont open the web page that I need(http://192.168.1.1) or (http://192.168.15.1 to finish the setup for either of those two systems.

I have an old black MB 2.16 ghz C2D. At times, it locks up and randomly reboots. Sometimes, it gets crazy and reboots again after its done booting up. Sometimes, I get this gray screen that says I have to hold the power button as well. I don't really notice the laptop getting warm at all or the fans turning on that much. I just reinstalled the entire OS and Snow Leopard. I just got a new MBP, so I haven't really been using that one as much (or at all). So, it's hard to say if that fixed it. My applecare runs out on 5/29/2010. And if it's a hardware problem, I'd like to get it fixed prior to my warranty expiring.

I've been digging around for a couple weeks now for information on what may be happening to my MBP. I've tried numerous solutions, but don't seem to be able to get the computer to STAY ON. Here's my story:
A couple weeks ago, my room mate was using the computer. She closed it to put it to sleep, and left it on my bed. When I went to turn it on, the screen was completely black and the indicator light on the open button was a steady grey. The computer was so hot it was painful to the touch. I unplugged it, hard powered it off, and let it sit, thinking it was an overheating issue.
Since then, the damn thing won't stay on. Initially, it would intermittently just shut off. When that happened, sometimes I could boot it back up, and other times it would sound like something was whirring in the background, but the screen stayed black and the indicator light stayed solid grey. I installed SMCFan and istat to monitor/control the temp and fans.
I noticed somewhere along the way that there seemed to be some connection between episodes of shutting down and the power cord (as in, if it was jostled, the computer shut off)(I should note that my battery is at about 15% health with a full charge). Then, that power cord died (no green/amber indicator light and no connection detected). So I bought a new cable, and set about trying to fix the problem again.
Next phase, it seemed that if I moved the computer, it shut down. So I did some of the recommended fixes. I deleted the power management plist, I changed the settings to never put the computer or the display to sleep, and I turned off the quick-motion sensor that stops the hard drive. I also reset the SMC settings.
This seemed to improve the situation a little bit, insofar as now instead of getting a shut down, I am now getting complete reboots that only *sometimes* lead to the blank screen and steady grey indicator light. This does happen more frequently if I move the computer, but it can also happen if I simply leave it to run. In fact, if I send the computer into sleep-mode, and close the lid, I'm practically guaranteed a reboot.
So, then I reset the PRAM and did the hard-reboot (ctrl+opt+power) and reset the PRAM again. I am currently running Rember to test the RAM, but I'm not sure what to look out for when it finishes, or what I should do about it.

First couple of times this has taken place I thought I was making a mistake or possible a power setting somewhere but finally yesterday I realised after checking all settings that my MacBook is actually rebooting and closing all apps for some reason.
Typically occurs when left alone for a hour - not every time - but at least 5 times so far this month. Has anyone else experienced this or do I just have a defect problem with the hardware? What can I do to troubleshoot this? Are there any system logs in this OS that would give me some clues if this is applicaton or hardware related?

Last week I bought a new model 15" MBP which spontaneous reboots every hour or so. Yesterday I returned it and received a new one (including new power supply etc). This one however does the same. Yesterday evening I started a Time Machine restore which was stopped in the middle because of a spontaneous reboot.
I resetted everything (SMC, PRAM, etc.) and tried again. Still reboots after apprx an hour. It doesn't run too hot (67C, 2100RPM). What can be wrong?

I just bought my new 2012 macbook pro a couple weeks ago, and so far it has crashed and rebooted by itself four times. Three of those four times, I had only been running a couple programs, such as Chrome and Mail, while all others were closed. the entire computer will freeze for about 6-7 seconds (no response to mouse movement/keyboard) and then shut down and reboot.
Is this a bug with OS X Lion? or the new macbook Pro? or my macbook pro specifically indicating there's some sort of defect?

Whenever my Macbook powers down to 0 battery life and reboots from a new charge, I loose all my software settings, including browser cache, adobe settings etc. It's really annoying. I have a brand new MacBook Pro 15" 2.2Ghz i7.I'm running OSX 10.6.8 on it (I reverted because I didn't like Lion).

I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro with a 2.53 GHz Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM, running OS X 10.10.1. For the last few weeks, at apparently-random intervals, the machine has been rebooting while I've been using it. I can't tie this to anything in particular that I'm doing. It may go a couple of days before a restart, or it could be like today, where it's happened five times in the last four hours. I've tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC without apparent effect.
When the reboot happens, the system first freezes for roughly 30 seconds--the mouse pointer won't move, it's unresponsive to keyboard input, etc. The system then appears to power down--the screen and external monitor go dark, fans stop, keyboard backlight goes out. A few seconds later, it powers up, gives the boot chime, and goes through the normal boot sequence. At no point does it give the "your computer was restarted because of a problem" message, and I don't see anything in the Console app that looks like a kernel panic.
About two years ago, the logic board was replaced to address a somewhat-similar issue--the system had been freezing and could only be recovered by a hard power off (holding down the power button for several seconds).
I'm not sure where to start looking for the cause of this problem, since I can't figure out anything in common with the circumstances surrounding the reboots.

When I open safari and go to the address bar to type a url address for a web site I used to just type the name and hit enter and safari would add the www & the .com at the end of the address.now when I type it and hit enter it adds the new url that I just typed to the end of the url for my home page website and it comes up saying site cannot be found. For some reason the address bar is remembering the address of my home page web site even though I highlight it and erase it before I type the new address I want to goto. I even went into preferences and changed it so that when I open a new window in safari it open blank instead of my home page but it didnt help.I am running mac osx leopard.

I need the thoughts and advice from your seasoned Mac people - I have 2 MBP's - 1 15" aluminum, one last years model 17" Unibody (with Black around screen). The 15 has run great since day one. The 17" was ok, but now is locking up and causing me to reboot, fans seem to run on high all the time, and it is very slow to react while using the OS, it gets worse until it locks up. I have upgrade to Snow Leopard thinking that that might fix it, but it has not.
When I got it, I restored from the back up of my 15" using carbon copy cloner. I only imported users and data such as pictures and music. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or a or should I back all my stuff up and then blow everything away and reinstall from the ground up with a fresh SL install?
When I called apple they tried to sell me apple care and told me that it was out of the full warranty and if I send it I would to pay for what was not under warranty. SO I am hoping that someone has seen this and has a fix that I can do without having to take it in.
