I was recently anxious to buy a game from the Mac App Store, being 40 gigabytes in size. The only problem is my free space. Having a 128 GB SSD, I have 36 gigabytes not in use. I have a Seagate 1 TB Backup Plus Drive which was working perfectly fine until I plugged it into a USB hub. It detected it while in the hub and I was able to get files off of it, but when I ejected it from the hub and put it back into the USB slot on the computer it was not detected by finder. It shows up in the disk utility and I clicked verify and repair and it says:

Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
Is there any way to get this to work properly again? Or if not is there a way for me to recover my files on the external hard drive?

I have an old Macbook via 2007 and I'm trying to update my operating system (currently OS 10.5.8) to Snow Leopard, but the disk is not reading in the disk drive. And unfortunately, Snow Leopard is only on a DVD, it can't be downloaded.I figure I have 2 choices:
1) take it in and spend $49 to have them do diagnostics and then tell me they probably need to replace the superdrive
2) I could buy an external optical drive. But I would need to know which one would be compatable with my old *** Macbook.

Since I planned to upgrade the stock disk on my macbook pro I created a USB stick backup of the Lion OS using Lion recovery disk assistant. It built a bootable copy of my Lion OS. I replaced the drive, booted from the USB stick Lion, formatted the new drive with disk utility with one OSX partition, and bunch of Linux partitions for the planned dual/triple/etc. boot. I then used the recovery disk menu to reinstall OSX on the new disk. It took off and started the download just like while booting with R key or from the recovery partition AGAIN!. This is a 2 hour proposition and is totally ridiculous. I need to be able to reinstall without downloading Lion every time. how to stop this new Apple invention from doing this download?

I just bought a 640gig Samsung 2.5 inch / 5400rpm drive and threw it in a FW800 case from Other world computing. Running some test using the QuickBench 4 and AJA system test shows me that this little bugger is almost as quick as my internal drive on my MacBook Pro (Model number: WDC WD6400BEVT-00A0RT0). How can this be???? I did a varity of test with different file sizes and the Samsung get 70 MB/s vs about 84 MB/s for the internal drive.
My internal drive is pretty full vs this external drive that is currently empty. I do a lot of video work / large gigabyte files on the drive so perhaps I have a defrag problem? I really expected my internal drive to blow the FW800 connected Samsung out the water?
Could any readers recommend an affordable basic external hard drive for a macbook air, which would also serve as a back-up for my old pc laptop? I don't need it to be portable, just to serve as back-up at home, though if it doesn't escalate the price too much wireless would be a bonus. I see there is a vast range of products available at a vast range of prices
