MacBook Air :: Does Google Drive On Finder Use Laptop Storage?
Aug 30, 2014
I am not clear on whether my data on the Google Drive shown in Finder is taking up storage space. Â
I understand that it is used to sync, but is my data off of my computer or not? How is using the Google Drive shown in Finder different than using Google Drive via the web?  Â
I would like to access my documents, photos, and music from an external storage source, either Google Drive, Dropbox, or my own external HD. Â
Info:
MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
The ScreeniPad could communicate with the storage on the laptop via bluetooth and work as a standalone iPad as well. At times the full notebook is not needed while at other times it is. An advanced iPad screen that is detachable form the main body of the notebook fits a lot of needs.I think it advances the iPad to a next level IE: who wouldn't buy the iPad screen model over a standard perm-attached screen model? By incorporating the two, it eliminates the choice between one or the other making it easy on the buyer to have both. And it slams the door on design from the competition for a while for sure.
(I think) but here we have a NAS (Network Access Storage) that everyone can access. Anyways, on a PC you go to network under my computer (or just computer or 7 now) and in there it is listed along with the other computers on the network. That's all good. On the Mac side you can see it as well, and that's all good. Here is what I am trying to figure out; on a pc in the computer navigation bar you can type addresses. For example the drive was not popping up earlier under the "network", so I just type "//DriveName" into the bar and it opened it up as if I had clicked it.
my friend has a mac and she said i should download google chrome and i did but i think there is a virus possibly.there are plenty of pop ups of something called "safe finder" when i first open google chrome and i want to get rid of the pop ups but i don't know how to get rid of them?
Occurring starting about last month, this has gone from a seldom, to all the time situation. plugging in any USB memory device either directly to the computer, or with cables, will allow the files to be accessed/changed/deleted by programs, but the device with it's files will not show in finder. The device shows in System information. I have set Finder to show everything, but they no longer apear. Before failing entirely, I would sometimes have the device show for a short time, then get an "Improper removal" error, without touching the device, after a few moments. All these memory devices still function properly when used in external devices and when direcly accesed by software. Not being able to use finder to modify content is a significant problem.
I have a MacBook with a storage drive connected via firewire. All was fine but now suddenly it won't show the contents of the folders and it won't eject. I tried dragging it to the trash, and I also tried the eject arrow in the list of drives. I tried to open Disk Utility, but it just spins. I also tried to throw something else away in the trash, and the trash folder will not take it.
Normally if something like this happened, I would just restart and hope it rights itself, but I don't know if I can do that with a storage drive still attached. (On another occasion, the storage drive got pulled out improperly and luckily I was able to repair it with Disk Utility.)
I just purchased a used mid 2012 macbook pro and one of the features that made me buy it was a 1 terabyte storage space. determine if it is actually 1 TB because the first screenshot showing the disk space does not update. Also each time I download a huge file, it's shows I have a specified amount of space out of a total of 499 GBÂ
i saw it yesterday on geekbeat.tv , watching one of my favorite podcasts. Its an app that brings the simplicity of tabs to your Finder! (and alot more, including a static Finder hotkey that slides a maximized finder window from the bottom)
I'm going for a second drive in place of the DVD bay with a caddy. Can you partition the second drive and run Windows 7 via Boot Camp and boot from it ?
how to use SSD as boot drive and have HDD in optical bay as storage on a Macbook pro 13. I mean in that both drives work as one . by formatting using mac software . I would like to run all programs and OS but would love to have my downloads and useless data on run on my 1tb 5400rpm hdd without me have to manual send it there..

I backed up my hard drive to an external drive. I now want to free up my hard drive storage space. How do I do that. I deleted several GB of iTunes but the free file space did not increase. How can I free up disk space?
I have the Seagate Backup Plus Drive 2TB. When I go to plug it in and I look at my Storage it says 272 GBs of Other, I know it's all movies and some back ups, So is the a way I can get it to sort my storage like it does with the internal HD ?
I thought I would share a cool realization. I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.
It seems that the writing is on the wall for my macbook pro internal harddrive.... Currently limping along but I need to start in safe mode and occaisonally internet boot and run diskutil, fsck etc etc etc.... I think it's safe to say it's going to die soon! So, looking to buy a replacement internal hard drive for a 2011 15" macbook pro: currently I have the stock 750gb 5000rpm drive.Looking for recommendations: of course a 750gb solid state drive would be ideal but of course not realistic! My main computer is a MPB17 with 256gb SSD and 750gb HD in an optibay. I have huge media libraries and like to have ready access to all my photos and videos. I have a Gen 1 Air that I use at home for mail and surfing and I have been using my iPad for mail and web when out. I have a max spec 11" Air arriving this week. It weighs the same as my iPad with Vaja case so I'm going to take it everywhere and leave the iPad for a reader in bed. Now I'm starting to think I might leave the 17" in my office and sync the 11" Air up and use if when I'm out. Problem is I want a fast, light USB drive to hold my media. Ideally with USB and FW so I can sync it fast with the MBPro.
I'm curious what people use for external storage on their iMacs. I have a Mac Pro which is getting a little long in the tooth. I'm debating whether to get a new Mac Pro or to get an iMac, which would be a pretty good speed bump from my Mac Pro 1,1. I'd get the ssd drive, and the 2TB harddrive and get aftermarket RAM. But what I like about the Mac Pro is the upgrades you can do. And I like the four hard drive bays, for storage and backup. I've got over 3 TB of photos and music/tv/movies, so I'm going to need an external drive. In addition, I'd like to be able to backup everything. Is there an elegant way to do this on an iMac with an external drive that isn't super loud and hot?
I currently own a macbook pro (see below specifications). I would like to know if I could change my current hard drive (Hitachi HTS545050B9SA02 500GB @5400) to an SSD. Here are some concerns
1. Can i copy my exact hard drive with all the programs over without having to reinstall anything
2. What is the best 500gb SSd Harddrive for this laptop?

Yesterday i spilled water all over my 13' macbook pro (oops!). Tomorrow i am going to the macstore to buy a new 13' macbook pro. My current notebook is almost two years old, runs moutian lion and has my very important paper on it. Will i be able to take the hard drive out of that one and put it in my new laptop?
I've just installed Google Drive, but it's created a series of duplicates with a "(1)" inserted in the filename. Quite maddening. Is there any way to quickly search for filenames that contain (1) so I can quickly separate them?
It's running the drive, but nothing happens. Replaced hard drive and laptop will not boot up. I've changed it before so I know I've installed it correctly.
My daughter is away at college and has the Mac laptop with no external drive. I have 1 more license for Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 but don't know how to download it via the cloud
I just bought a 640gig Samsung 2.5 inch / 5400rpm drive and threw it in a FW800 case from Other world computing. Running some test using the QuickBench 4 and AJA system test shows me that this little bugger is almost as quick as my internal drive on my MacBook Pro (Model number: WDC WD6400BEVT-00A0RT0). How can this be???? I did a varity of test with different file sizes and the Samsung get 70 MB/s vs about 84 MB/s for the internal drive.
My internal drive is pretty full vs this external drive that is currently empty. I do a lot of video work / large gigabyte files on the drive so perhaps I have a defrag problem? I really expected my internal drive to blow the FW800 connected Samsung out the water?
Could any readers recommend an affordable basic external hard drive for a macbook air, which would also serve as a back-up for my old pc laptop? I don't need it to be portable, just to serve as back-up at home, though if it doesn't escalate the price too much wireless would be a bonus. I see there is a vast range of products available at a vast range of prices
My Mac book pro got damaged and no longer works properly. I believe that the hard drive is fine. Is there a inexpensive method of extracting the data from my intact hard drive?
