Sep 9, 2014I use messages a lot with chat rooms for work. In the example shown below, I used to see the Chat Room name in bold on the left side like Drew DuP... and
I used to have the green dot with available in the bottom left corner with my status. Now all I see on the left hand side is a picture box with no name and the green dot/available is not there. When I have several different chat rooms going at one time, it's hard to quickly select the one I want. I have checked through all the preferences I can imagine and nothing has worked.

Jan 19, 2010I'm afraid I'm having a Windows user moment. Sometimes I still fail to do things the easy, intuitive way, even after roughly 4 years in OS X. I have 5 hard drives in my Mac Pro, one of them is my boot Intel SSD. I want that icon to be distinct from the others (another is a Time Machine drive). I've downloaded two files that would work for me, one was a png and the other a .ico file, but when I copy the icon from the top left corner of the 'get info' pane on the desired file, and then paste it int he correlating top left corner of the SSD 'get info' pane, it pastes the generic PNG or ICO icon, not the actual icon image I desire.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail Icon Shows Unread Messages That Are Not There
May 23, 2012My Mail Icon shows 3 unread messages. When I open Mail, my iCloud account icon shows only 1 unread message which I cannot find. When I check iCloud.com, there are no unread messages. I have multiple accounts to access and multiple within each account. I have searched all accounts and files; I have checked "Mark all as Unread", then checked "Mark all as Read", but same reaction.

Feb 7, 2009I just noticed a small but very annoying change. I have the energy saver pane appear in the menu bar on my iBook. It used to be when I clicked the battery icon I could select Better Battery Life, Better Performance, or Normal from the drop down menu. I don't when this change happened, but I am now no longer able to select those from the icon, I have to open System Preference to change it. [URL]

OS X Yosemite :: Can't Change Icon Of Hard Drive On MacBook Pro
Dec 5, 2014I changed the icon of my 2TB Toshiba hard drive when I still had Mavericks on my Macbook Pro 13-inch (Mid-2012). I tried changing the icon on the same hard drive on Yosemite and change it to my new icon (and it changed to the new one), however, as soon as I ejected my hard drive and accessed it again, it was still using the same previous icon, and not the new one.
I've tried different methods such as deleting the icon then ejecting the hard drive and when I re-accessed it, it would have the default folder icon for when it doesn't have a custom icon. I would then change the default folder icon to the new icon that I wanted to use (and it would change to the new icon), ejected the hard drive and then accessed it again, however when I did, it would still use the previous icon that I originally used! I've also I tried restarting the laptop while the hard drive was connected and it still wouldn't change. Restarting the laptop while the hard drive was ejected also did not work.
I'm not sure if it's something related to the OS change or some permissions on the hard drive itself.

Mar 16, 2012For some reason, my mail icon is no longer showing my badge icon displaying the number of unread emails I have. Within mail, next to my mailbox, it no longer shows the number of unread emails either even though there are clearly email messages with the blue dot indicating they're unread.

Mar 20, 2012I am trying to use iCloud calendar services for collaboration with my wife, and my secretary (I actually even bought a mac for my wife so that we could do this). However every time either of them change anything in their respective calendars I get an e-mail from iCloud saying an event has been created. This only started about a week ago. I have checked to see if some of my settings in iCloud have changed, and they haven't (the box in iCloud that says: "E-mail me when this calendar changes" is not ticked). Why I am suddenly getting all these e-mails which are quite irritating.

Aug 29, 2014I use a few chat message programs on Mavericks but the Messages app is the only that doesn't use Shift+Enter for a new line and sends the half written message instead. Enter & Shift+Enter in messages does the same thing. Is there a way to change the keyboard shortcut so that Shift+Enter gives a newline instead of sending the message?

Jul 1, 2010Today, I changed the password of my Gmail account on a PC computer in a public library. Afterwards, I was/am unable to log into my Gmail account to check the messages via SL 10.6.4's Mail client. I have an April 2010 13" MBP. Similarly, I was/am unable to log into my Gmail account via the Mail client on my 16 GB, 3G iPad, or the 32 GB, 3rd Gen iPod Touch. I keep getting the error message that either the user name or the password is wrong! I checked and re-checked, but I did NOT see anything wrong? The funny thing is that I could log into my Gmail account via Safari on ALL three devices, but NOT via the Mail client on the three device!

Most of them have a folder as the first item, so unless I mouse over them, I don't know which one is which. I know the method of using "Get Info", copy, paste is standard, but recently when I hit "Get Info" for the icon I want to use it only gives me the the file type icon, such as PNG, rather than the icon that I want to use. I know it's tough to explain so I can take a screen cap if you don't quite understand. I tried using CandyBar but even then it wouldn't give me the option to change the icons I wanted to, which are only the MS Office icons (Nothing fancy.)
