View 24 RepliesI run a UMBP @ home and also have a work laptop connected to my LAN. I want to remote into my work laptop from my UMBP, but I am having trouble doing so. My work laptop has joint to the company domain and has Group Policy applied. However I made sure all the remote desktop firewall rules are open and I still can't remote into it. Work laptop is running Win7. My dad's pc is also a Win7 and I can remote into just fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the current model 15" MBP. I'm just wondering if there is a specific remote you need since they don't come with remotes any more I didn't know if Apple changed it or if they were only being cheap (which we know they are!). I need to use it for some Keynote presentations and I saw these on eBay and figured it wouldn't hurt to save $10 if they worked with my machine.

I have the new 2012 Macbook Air 13''. I had heard there would be an infrared port so I can use my Mac remote control. I cannot confirm. Is this part of the 2012 Macbook Air?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook that is about 3 years old now. It came with an Apple Remote (the little white one). If I were to buy a new Mac Mini would I have to buy a new Apple Remote, or would the remote that came with the MacBook also work with the Mini?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been thinking of using an iMac as a video player in my workout room. I'd like it to be able to grab videos (tv shows) from my main iMac. I'd also use it to play dvd's.
I was thinking of buying a used G4 iMac to do this, but would like to be able to use a remote control to use Front Row.
First, can I use Front Row on iMac #2 to get videos from iMac #1?
Secondly, does the Apple Remote Controller work with a ppc G4 iMac?
I purchased a 13" MacBook Pro in late December of 2011. After working with it for 6 months I've realized I should have bought the 15" model instead. Does Apple accept "trade-ins" if a customer chooses to upgrade?

So I have a MacBook Pro, and my Dad has a MacBook Air. I was wandering if I needed Wi-Fi to access the optical drive on my MBP through the MBA using remote disk
Will they find each-other without Wi-Fi?
I need to remote into my office (PC) from my mac pro at home.

I was wondering if I would be able to remote access my lost laptop if the administrator account has been deleted. Being absent minded I left my bag at the bus station and I figure who ever has found it is keeping it by now since I haven't gotten a phone call yet and it's been over a week.
I have an Macbook pro 15 inch retina from 2013 (model number A 1398) and I want to use my apple tv remote on my macbook. But it won't work. When I look on the internet, they say I have to go to system preference -> security and privacy and then you can find your infrared but mine don't show the infrared.
use my remote on my macbook?

Where are the settings in Snow Leopard to control the Apple Remote? I have an Apple TV, and I'd like to stop the remote from communicating with my Macbook and the Apple TV at the same time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a brand new MBP from the Apple Store today, 17" one. I had an iMac, and did a transfer via Firewire of all my stuff to the new MBP. I then wiped the iMac clean and reinstalled Snow Leopard and moved it to my parents house. However the Apple Remote I had with the iMac, which was paired with the iMac, will not work with the MBP at all. I tried going into System Prefs on the MBP and pairing the remote, no luck. I tried turning off the infrared receiver in the same settings pane, no luck. I tried popping out the battery of the remote and put it back in, no luck. I then tried my girlfriend's Apple Remote (which is paired with her MacBook 13"), no luck. I turned off the infrared receiver in her MacBook to make sure it wasn't interfering or whatever, still no luck. Neither Apple Remote will work with my brand new MBP. Does it have a broken infrared port u think?

I know this is kind of off topic and the logo does not make the product any different but I found it a little odd that Apple decided to not to put their logo on the remote. It's made out of aluminum and has enough space on the back for a logo to be present. Apple put's their logo on everything that has enough space for one. The old remote had it, mouse, keyboard, MacBook/MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, iPod's, iPhone, docks, and gift cards all have it. Their earphones don't have it because they are to small to put a logo without making them look stupid. I wonder what Jonathan Ive and Jobs were thinking when they decided to not put the logo. The back of the remote almost seems bare without it.
View 2 Replies View Relatedso when I try to use remote disc, on top of taking like 5 minutes to connect, when I try to open the audio CD in my PC laptop's disc drive, it doesn't work. It will just sit there for like 3-4 minutes and then tell me something about it not being found. I attached a picture of the message I get. What should I do?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm considering a MBA (not sure on the size yet), but need to know if I can use the built in Remote File Access to grab files from my PC or if I would need to buy the Airport Extreme as well.
I'm also curious if anyone has used GarageBand on the MBA and if it runs smoothly. I'm considering the 4 GB MBA primarily for this purpose.

if anyone has written anything to make it work with other Macs yet? Anyone figure out what restricts it from working with other machines? I would love to replace the beast of an external drive I have with this beautiful piece of work. I don't use the external a lot but enough I want one around. At the same time anyone figure out how to make the GUI interface of remote disk work with other machines? I know there is way to remote disk anything and have done it before but the GUI they added to this service is beatiful for the MBA. I would love to be able to use either of these things with out the MBA.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI want to do a power point presentation for class and I was wondering if the apple remote would control my slides and stuff.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't have an iPod. Yet. Often when I'm biking and have to carry my computer, I simply put it in my backpack and connect my headphones to the computer through the gap between the zippers. This allows me to listen to music, which is nice... right? Anyways, the problem is, or perhaps it's not a problem but entirely normal, that I can't control iTunes with the remote on the headphones.
I'm currently running Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4.11. It's a black Macbook, bought around 2006 - 2007.
My question is, is there anyway to make the remote on the headphones work with iTunes? Do I need a plugin of some sort? Skipping/pausing songs, changing volume, all that jazz. It's not a necessity, but it would definitely be preferred.
Ive accidently gotten to it a few times and I am not sure how I did it. The Video mode is when instead of your desktop you see a black screen that says Imovie, Idvd. Itunes, Iphoto and you can play movies you put in the drive or play youtube or anything that was in your movie file. It is this that apple gives the remote for with some laptops. I lost the remote and remember accidently switching to this mode by hitting certain keys that I do not remember the combo. how to get back to the mode with and what button combo does it?

I am looking for a replacement for my gf's - now dead - laptop (non-Apple). My preference would lean towards the MBP 13" over the 'new' MB, don't particularly like how the plastic unibody turned out and I heard about cracks and the aluminum model being superior. On the other hand, the buyer's guide states that it is due for an update (but no known refresh date yet and immediate replacement is required). However, she is currently used to Windows and is content about it - then again, she doesn't know Macs. Therefore, I am curious about possible alternatives, the laptop does not have to pack a lot of power (she would just use it for the casual things, no game or anything; office, mail, IM's, internet). I want her laptop to be of proper build-quality though and not too heavy (she's a slender girl ). So I was Interested in Lenovo too, but don't know their range of product at all. So, any suggestions? Not looking for hate on wintels here (is this the wrong forum to ask? :P), just some honest advice on good quality laptops that are not overspecced, preferably under the $1,000 mark (I know the 13" MBP surpasses that).
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy Apple remote won't pair with my iMac (Lion) or my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard). It works with iTunes and VLC Media Player on both without being paired, but pairing is supposed to work isn't it?I've used the iMac's camera to check that the remote's battery is OK. When I press any one button, the live camera picture shows a blinking light. However, if I press two buttons (Menu and Next, as is required for pairing) there is no blinking light. Is it possible that the Apple remote's battery is good enough to create a blinking light when one button is pressed, but not when two are pressed? I've hardly used it, so I'd be surprised if the battery was low already.
Also, I'm not sure that when I click on Pair... in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, whether the pressing of two buttons for pairing has to be done while the OK popup is present or not. It doesn't matter when I try it, I never see a paired-remote graphic.
