MacBook :: Knowing Video Mode Without Apple Remote?
Feb 1, 2012
Ive accidently gotten to it a few times and I am not sure how I did it. The Video mode is when instead of your desktop you see a black screen that says Imovie, Idvd. Itunes, Iphoto and you can play movies you put in the drive or play youtube or anything that was in your movie file. It is this that apple gives the remote for with some laptops. I lost the remote and remember accidently switching to this mode by hitting certain keys that I do not remember the combo. how to get back to the mode with and what button combo does it?
I have a 2007 macbook pro with a dead video card. Neither the LCD nor the external video port work. The apple store confirmed everything else works fine. I would like to use it in a server-like application, but to set it up I will need some way to get video working temporarily.
When it broke, I had ssh enabled but that's about it. I didn't install remote desktop or anything like that. Is there any way to ssh in and install/set up Remote Desktop or something equivalent? I'm used to doing X11 forwarding over ssh on linux, but I haven't found anything similar for mac.
I have an Macbook pro 15 inch retina from 2013 (model number A 1398) and I want to use my apple tv remote on my macbook. But it won't work. When I look on the internet, they say I have to go to system preference -> security and privacy and then you can find your infrared but mine don't show the infrared.
use my remote on my macbook?
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
i have an apple tv and the universal dock(1st gen), the remote that comes with the apple tv also controls the universal dock, but i want the remote to only control the apple tv not the universal dock, every time i play something in the apple tv my iPhone which is connected to the dock also plays a song.
Where are the settings in Snow Leopard to control the Apple Remote? I have an Apple TV, and I'd like to stop the remote from communicating with my Macbook and the Apple TV at the same time.
I just bought a brand new MBP from the Apple Store today, 17" one. I had an iMac, and did a transfer via Firewire of all my stuff to the new MBP. I then wiped the iMac clean and reinstalled Snow Leopard and moved it to my parents house. However the Apple Remote I had with the iMac, which was paired with the iMac, will not work with the MBP at all. I tried going into System Prefs on the MBP and pairing the remote, no luck. I tried turning off the infrared receiver in the same settings pane, no luck. I tried popping out the battery of the remote and put it back in, no luck. I then tried my girlfriend's Apple Remote (which is paired with her MacBook 13"), no luck. I turned off the infrared receiver in her MacBook to make sure it wasn't interfering or whatever, still no luck. Neither Apple Remote will work with my brand new MBP. Does it have a broken infrared port u think?
As i said, i have a mac early 09 model and it dosent reconize my astro a30 headsets mic or "button". I have tried all the adapters and my mac does not see my mic. The button that is supposed to stop and play music doesnt work either.
Info: MacBook (13-inch Early 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I know this is kind of off topic and the logo does not make the product any different but I found it a little odd that Apple decided to not to put their logo on the remote. It's made out of aluminum and has enough space on the back for a logo to be present. Apple put's their logo on everything that has enough space for one. The old remote had it, mouse, keyboard, MacBook/MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, iPod's, iPhone, docks, and gift cards all have it. Their earphones don't have it because they are to small to put a logo without making them look stupid. I wonder what Jonathan Ive and Jobs were thinking when they decided to not put the logo. The back of the remote almost seems bare without it.
When I boot up the computer,I get a grey screen and what looks like a yellow firewire logo slowly floating around.I don't know much about computers but I was told it had something to do withmy computer waiting to be controlled by another computer.
I have the current model 15" MBP. I'm just wondering if there is a specific remote you need since they don't come with remotes any more I didn't know if Apple changed it or if they were only being cheap (which we know they are!). I need to use it for some Keynote presentations and I saw these on eBay and figured it wouldn't hurt to save $10 if they worked with my machine. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SEALED-APPLE...item58839f2a2c
Some people on the internet say the remote is automatically usuable but when i tryed to use my remote with powerpoint it does not respond. I am using powerpoint 2011 mac and the aluminium remote
I have done this before where I disabled infrared control on the MacBook Pro but for the life of me I cant find the spot where to disable it on the MacBook.
I was just talking to this one guy on Yahoo messenger and he said he knows my IP address and my Main IP provider, that he did DOS Command.. something like that while talking to me. He said he can easily hack my computer and know private things about myself, infos, credit cards etc..Like for example I am shopping online, he said he could easily use the account.
What should I do now ? Should I change all my passwords ? I am scared.I am using Macbook Pro 15inch by the way if you need this info
I don't have an iPod. Yet. Often when I'm biking and have to carry my computer, I simply put it in my backpack and connect my headphones to the computer through the gap between the zippers. This allows me to listen to music, which is nice... right? Anyways, the problem is, or perhaps it's not a problem but entirely normal, that I can't control iTunes with the remote on the headphones.
I'm currently running Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4.11. It's a black Macbook, bought around 2006 - 2007.
My question is, is there anyway to make the remote on the headphones work with iTunes? Do I need a plugin of some sort? Skipping/pausing songs, changing volume, all that jazz. It's not a necessity, but it would definitely be preferred.
I have the new 2012 Macbook Air 13''. I had heard there would be an infrared port so I can use my Mac remote control. I cannot confirm. Is this part of the 2012 Macbook Air?
is it possable to turn the Apple Remote feature off in itunes ( Im using a Macbook pro late 2011 model ) im sick of my mac starting to play music when i am using apple tv.
not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same problems but every 20-30 seconds or so I can hear the hard drive clicking and going away, is this normal ? Its not the mentioned "loud screeches" or other kind of annoying sound, its just like a little click, this is after the 10.5.3 update, just wanting to know if some of you experience the same thing ?
I bought a Macbook air on ebay & I do not have the password for the person listed as administrator. Is there a way to delete that administrator & set up myself as administrator?
My Apple remote won't pair with my iMac (Lion) or my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard). It works with iTunes and VLC Media Player on both without being paired, but pairing is supposed to work isn't it?I've used the iMac's camera to check that the remote's battery is OK. When I press any one button, the live camera picture shows a blinking light. However, if I press two buttons (Menu and Next, as is required for pairing) there is no blinking light. Is it possible that the Apple remote's battery is good enough to create a blinking light when one button is pressed, but not when two are pressed? I've hardly used it, so I'd be surprised if the battery was low already.
Also, I'm not sure that when I click on Pair... in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, whether the pressing of two buttons for pairing has to be done while the OK popup is present or not. It doesn't matter when I try it, I never see a paired-remote graphic.
Am I able to stream video to my xbox in clamshell mode? I don't have an external display, mouse or keyboard connected. Right now I just turn the screen off, but I'd like to close the lid.
Why i cant watch youtube as youtube inform this "This video is unavailable with safety Mode enabled. To view this video, to need to disable safety mode" how can i turn off safety mode

Pretty much what the title states, I have the new alpha numeric wired apple keyboard and I want to use my macbook in clamshell mode without having to open it up to power on, so is there a way to do it?
Any word on a newer version of Apple Remote Desktop? I'm really looking for a new version that fixes some of the outstanding bugs in version 3.2. I am also hoping that Apple has an easier way to share lists. This is a big PITA in my organization, and I have already submitted feedback to Apple for it.
