I got an IR sensor from someone and i know it works, because it turns on I see the light in the front, and it shows up in the System Info. If I go into settings I See it now has the option to pair a remote. The Remote won't pair though.
This is on a early 2014 13" Macbook Pro Retina. So will it not work at all on my macbook.

trying to pair my remote up, ive checked in security and it isnt blocked from accepting remotes,
ive done the hold right and menu buttons for 5 seconds...... but nothing??
i thought the receiver was in the apple logo on the front?
I've recently received my refurbished March 2009 Mac Mini. I want to use it as a media center and have an harmony remote that I would like to use to control it (mostly for boxee). My problem is that I can't seem to find a way to pair my remote with it. Let me explain.
So I launched Logitech Harmony Remote Software and added a new device, the Apple Mac Mini. I then updated my remote and finally updated my remote. Now, I have a macbook pro and a mac mini. Without pairing anything, I can effectively control the sound on my macbook pro, but not on my Mac Mini. Yes I've checked in the system pref in both machines, nothing is paired and I do not have a real apple remote.
If I use the pair function, it does pair with my macbook pro and keep controlling it and still does nothing on the mac mini (expected). If I unpair it then close my macbook pro and use the pair function near my mac mini, it still do not want to pair.My question is, aside from bringing it to the apple store to get it checked, is there a way to test if my IR port is working on my mac mini?
Several months ago, my white Apple Wireless Keyboard began malfunctioning - for example, typing 'a' would result in 'ahz'tu' or something to that effect. I thought perhaps the keyboard needed a thorough cleaning, so I turned off my computer and keyboard, removed all of the keys and brushed it clean with a stiff-bristled brush.
I replaced all of the keys (with the help of a diagram) and turned on my computer. However, my keyboard would not connect, and remained in 'discoverable' mode (the light on the back was blinking three times in succession). I turned it off, unpaired the computer and keyboard and replaced the batteries. Nothing changed.
Using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, I tried to make a new pairing. The Setup Assistant recognised the keyboard as a discoverable device, but when it came to typing in the passcode and hitting Return nothing happened, and the connection timed out. I tried several times to enter the passcode; I closed and reopened the Setup Assistant; I restarted the computer and keyboard; and tried more than one fresh batch of batteries.
Since then, I have tried:
- repairing the keyboard everyday
- deleting all Bluetooth pairings (mouse, mobile phones etc).
- installing the latest Bluetooth firmware update
- deleting Bluetooth preferences in Library > Preferences
- running permissions repair on HD
- pairing with a separate D-Link dongle (tried every USB port, too)
- resetting PRAM
My Apple Wireless Mouse still works (connects and pairs). The keyboard wouldnt pair with another computer (MacBook running OS 10.5).
I just got a new Apple Bluetooth keyboard and it will not pair with my iBook. When I use the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, it sees the keyboard, and then asks me to type the passcode. I type it, hit the Return key, and it just sits there forever. I didn't have an issue pairing the keyboard with my new Mac Pro. What am I doing wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Macbook pro 15 inch retina from 2013 (model number A 1398) and I want to use my apple tv remote on my macbook. But it won't work. When I look on the internet, they say I have to go to system preference -> security and privacy and then you can find your infrared but mine don't show the infrared. Â

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a brand new MBP from the Apple Store today, 17" one. I had an iMac, and did a transfer via Firewire of all my stuff to the new MBP. I then wiped the iMac clean and reinstalled Snow Leopard and moved it to my parents house. However the Apple Remote I had with the iMac, which was paired with the iMac, will not work with the MBP at all. I tried going into System Prefs on the MBP and pairing the remote, no luck. I tried turning off the infrared receiver in the same settings pane, no luck. I tried popping out the battery of the remote and put it back in, no luck. I then tried my girlfriend's Apple Remote (which is paired with her MacBook 13"), no luck. I turned off the infrared receiver in her MacBook to make sure it wasn't interfering or whatever, still no luck. Neither Apple Remote will work with my brand new MBP. Does it have a broken infrared port u think?

I know this is kind of off topic and the logo does not make the product any different but I found it a little odd that Apple decided to not to put their logo on the remote. It's made out of aluminum and has enough space on the back for a logo to be present. Apple put's their logo on everything that has enough space for one. The old remote had it, mouse, keyboard, MacBook/MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, iPod's, iPhone, docks, and gift cards all have it. Their earphones don't have it because they are to small to put a logo without making them look stupid. I wonder what Jonathan Ive and Jobs were thinking when they decided to not put the logo. The back of the remote almost seems bare without it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the current model 15" MBP. I'm just wondering if there is a specific remote you need since they don't come with remotes any more I didn't know if Apple changed it or if they were only being cheap (which we know they are!). I need to use it for some Keynote presentations and I saw these on eBay and figured it wouldn't hurt to save $10 if they worked with my machine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't have an iPod. Yet. Often when I'm biking and have to carry my computer, I simply put it in my backpack and connect my headphones to the computer through the gap between the zippers. This allows me to listen to music, which is nice... right? Anyways, the problem is, or perhaps it's not a problem but entirely normal, that I can't control iTunes with the remote on the headphones.
I'm currently running Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4.11. It's a black Macbook, bought around 2006 - 2007.
My question is, is there anyway to make the remote on the headphones work with iTunes? Do I need a plugin of some sort? Skipping/pausing songs, changing volume, all that jazz. It's not a necessity, but it would definitely be preferred.
Ive accidently gotten to it a few times and I am not sure how I did it. The Video mode is when instead of your desktop you see a black screen that says Imovie, Idvd. Itunes, Iphoto and you can play movies you put in the drive or play youtube or anything that was in your movie file. Â It is this that apple gives the remote for with some laptops. I lost the remote and remember accidently switching to this mode by hitting certain keys that I do not remember the combo. how to get back to the mode with and what button combo does it?

I have the new 2012 Macbook Air 13''. I had heard there would be an infrared port so I can use my Mac remote control. I cannot confirm. Is this part of the 2012 Macbook Air?

I would LOVE to have an Apple screen , but its simply out of my financial league at the moment. So I am currently looking at 2 Dell screens, one 23" and one 24". What I am wanting to know is, does the display port on my MBP (early 2011, bog standard basic 13") carry sound with it if I am not using Thunderbolt, or will I need to plug something into the headphone jack to get sound. Its not something I need *all* the time, just occasionally, so its not a huge deal if it wont do it, I'll simply use a headset for those times. The input options on the Dells are DVI, VGA and Display Port. No HDMI on the models I'm considering (perhaps I should consider one, for this?)Â

My Apple remote won't pair with my iMac (Lion) or my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard). It works with iTunes and VLC Media Player on both without being paired, but pairing is supposed to work isn't it?I've used the iMac's camera to check that the remote's battery is OK. When I press any one button, the live camera picture shows a blinking light. However, if I press two buttons (Menu and Next, as is required for pairing) there is no blinking light. Is it possible that the Apple remote's battery is good enough to create a blinking light when one button is pressed, but not when two are pressed? I've hardly used it, so I'd be surprised if the battery was low already.
Also, I'm not sure that when I click on Pair... in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, whether the pressing of two buttons for pairing has to be done while the OK popup is present or not. It doesn't matter when I try it, I never see a paired-remote graphic.
i have a macbook pro 15" 2011, i would like to change the internal drive with an SSD (OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G), but i have the Apple Care plan active. Does the drive replacement void the Apple Care? or the Apple Warranty in general ?

I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with Lion installed. The Performance is less than I expected if compare with my old Macbook with Snow Leopard installed. Connect to Apple's Thunderbolt Display Performance goes doen to very, very, very, very slow. For Example to load a JPG in Preview it takes more than 30 seconds until 1 min to load. Same to start iWork like Pages or Keynote.Sometimes Safari freeze, loading images or loading plugins like flash animations. Generally Lion works with low performance and I wish Snow Leopard back. But my Mybook Pro late 2011 is not compatible to install Snow Leopard on it.Â

Is there a usb ir port that you can use with the Mac Pro + apple remote?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two MacBook Pros, each about 6 months old. They are both running the latest version of Lion. Neither one will pair with any bluetooth device. I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker. I get the same message every time.
