So I was cleaning off my new Macbook Pro (a month old) the other day and noticed one spot wouldn't clean, I figured it may have been something stuck on there so I tried a little harder with no luck. I must of missed it, but there's a little piece of white dust (about 1px or so in size) behind the glass . I'm going to try to ignore it, but it's a little hard when you're as OCD about your electronics as I am, whenever I turn on my Mac it seems that my eyes drift over there. It isn't even that bad in my opinion, when I sit at a normal distance it's nearly unnoticeable, it's only when I look for it that I can see it.
I want to produce a logo for a piece of coursework so it doesn't need to be to professional or anything, but does anyone know of any free software or apps I could use?
I'm sure you've all experienced this (if not then you don't have a unibody macbook pro, lol). I've had about 8 unibodies both 15" and 13" and the light grease fro the keys occasionally gets transfered to the screen in the shape of keys, and I've seen many people talk about a little piece of fabric (looks just like the screen cloth) they place over the keyboard to prevent this from happening. Anyone have an eBay or another online link to something like this? I think keyboard covers are silly, so just looking for the fabric solution.
Any way to get rid of it. I know its a far fetched thing to ask, but I figured I would give it a shot. I noticed it a few days ago and now I cant stop seeing it. Also, do any of you guys know of a non matte fingerprint resistant screen protector? I looked into it a little bit more. Turns out it might be a dead pixel. I have applecare. I was wondering what they will do. Will they replace my screen, give me a refurbished 09 model, or give me a brand new computer?
I just got the new incase hardshell for my 13 MBP, but the bottom piece doesn't clip on properly. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm following the installation instructions, but am I doing it wrong?
I have bitdefender for mac and it has found tp pieces of mail in my saved mail boxes and it won't let me delete it. It says I don't have permission to delete or move this mail. I have reindexed the box but it did not work.

My macbook is from 2009 and now a piece from his screen doesnt show any pictures anymore. I went to a shop from Apple and they told me that its a contact problem and to solve this it will cost about U$700, thats almost the price from a new mac!
I wanted to see if there were any alternatives to the $100 superdrive that seems pretty fragile and some people suggested this Fastmac [URL] for $110, which can ready Bluray discs.
I did a little diging on this forum and found this tread [URL], which basically says it's a Panasonic (Matshita) UJ-120 drive in an external enclosure and an IDE-to-USB bridge.
Then I went on eBay to see if they sell the UJ-120 and found this seller ([URL]) selling it for $80.
I took the plunge and bought it, and it works fine. When I plugged it in, nothing happen, but when I inserted a DVD it played it and when I inserted a blank disk, it let me burn it with itunes.
Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know that this is a great alternative for $80. I haven't tried the bluray yet, but I got what I wanted.
The little white plastic doohickey that opens the battery compartment on my laptop (powerbook g4, I thinks) has broken off and now I can't open the battery compartment.I'm trying to find out if my battery has the appropriate serial number for the recall, but I can't open the battery compartment. Plus, the battery no longer works at all, so I have to use the AC adapter if I want to use the laptop at all--NOT GOOD!Does anyone know if this dumb little piece of plastic can be replaced, and if so how? (I'm sure it costs something like .000000003 cents to manufacture......)
Is it possible to upgrade the SSD from 64gb to 128gb on the MacBook Air (mid-2011) on the basic configuration? I've ran out far too quickly on the 64gb and would really love for the extra storage space. Could I also get this upgrade via Apple if doing it myself would void the warranty?
My 2008 2.4ghz Intel MacBook is getting slower and slower at running basic operations. I have tried to free up my hard drive as it was very full. I free up 40 GB+ of space, but something is still filling it back up? Here is what my profile looks like:
How do I figure out what all this "other" material is? I thought it was due to a lack of memory after upgrading to Lion, but it has been getting dramatically worse, which doesn't seem like a memory issue to me.
I've been lookin online for a few weeks now but haven't had much success - so I'm asking the MR small business owners out there what they use to run their business. I don't know if there is a software piece out there, but I want to do the following:
- keep a record of customers - track income/expenses - create invoices - track billable hours - track mileage
Right now I'm using a combo of Pages/Numbers to do all this, but with a growing customer base I'd like a more all in one solution that doesn't cost the earth. I'm starting to get files all over the place, and tryingto remember which invoice number I used last so I can type it into a new invoice is getting annoying.
I've noticed this on my MacBook Air and also on a friends MacBook so it is in no way unique to this model. In Photo Booth both models seem unable to render the effects at a moderately respectable FPS and fluidity is severely impinged. This is especially noticed when keying the background out and recording video from that. It seems to bring the MBA to it's knees! How can such a novelty application have such a drain on system resources? You would think Apple would have designed the application in mind of the constraints of these models. The MBA isn't especially cheap and if potential customers are seeing it failing to render a novelty webcam application properly I don't think they are going to be particularly impressed.
I'm not particularly impressed and I've bought one. Performance in Photoshop and Illustrator is exquisite, I haven't had any problems and filters etc can be applied quickly. Photo Booth is the one application that I have noticed the MBA struggle to perform in the past week I have been using it. The iSight camera seems to be of a lower quality than for instance the MacBook due to apparent high levels of noise. iSight camera live footage appears to lag behind by about 1 second in Photo Booth and by about 3 seconds in iMovie. The Intel GMA X3100 has proved to be great in rendering streaming Quicktime H.264 720p media from the Quicktime HD Gallery but unable to work Photo Booth properly?
I have a PDF document with 33 pages. I need to print this out, but what I want to do is have two pages print next to each other on one piece of paper. I tried looking around in Preview, but didn't find anything that would let me do this. Is there any way?
I'm looking into purchasing a new wireless router for our home. Basically used for basic Internet and video streaming. We are an apple family, No PC. Looked into the airport extreme but seems kinda pricey for what we need it for. Since we won't ever be gaming or running a server. Which wireless router do you use and how do you like it?
I've just got a new macbook and it's awesome, really feels like a well built notebook. I have 3-4 specs under my screen, there not dead pixels so I'm 99% sure there specs of dust. Now I'm curious, are all the new Macbooks gonna have a few specs or not? I don't know whether to take it back for a new one or live with it. If most Macbooks are going to have the odd spec I will just hang on to it and get over it. But if most of the owners on here have 100% perfect screens, I'll get it exchanged.
Picked up a G3 the blue one piece at a garage sale, Had 9.01 on it......just got it up to 9.2.2 it only has 128mb of ram and I found another 128mb stick laying around from an old pc I had. how many memory slots this thing has? The picture tube is so darn big, I can't see the guts of the G3. Guess I'll have to open it to see.Â
I was out at the Apple store this weekend and got a chance to play around with the new MBA air. My favourite part had to be the new 13.3" high resolution screen. I especially liked the silver bezel and the fact that it didn't have that annoying (imo) glass covering.
I think a resolution bump is a given for the 13" 2011 MBP but what about the other features of the MBA's screen such as Silver bezel and losing the glass. Ditching the glass would also help lighten the machine.
I've decided I'm going to get a MacBook Air for college, but I want to make sure it's the best possible for my four years as an undergraduate so I don't have to get a new one over this time period. For the processor: how much of a speed difference will there be between the i5 and i7? I'm thinking the i7 will be a better choice, but I really don't know what the difference will be. For RAM: 4gb should be plenty for four years, right? Right now I have a late 2008 aluminum MacBook with only 2gb of RAM and only recently did I notice it to start getting slow. Storage: My biggest concern. Will 256gb last me four years? I will be bringing an external hard drive, but I plan on only really using that for Time Machine backups and storage for photos. Should I make the jump to 512gb?
I need to make a slideshow with a ton of impact, I have about 80 images and and what we have now is very basic, check it out .its way too slow for the amount of pictures takes an eternity to get through.We found this slideshow on the net.its very effective and you can see our pictures in a minimal amount of time. Only problem is i have no idea how to replicate this effect, I was thinking maybe premier pro but have had a look and cant get anywhere close to it.
I know that the iFixIt tear down reveals Toshiba flash chips on the 11" MBA, but I was curious to know the following specs on the 13" MBA.
Does Apple use different suppliers for the different capacities/models (i.e. Samsung, Hynix, etc.)
I could make some guesses from the benchmark tests, but would like to have hard specs.

The specs are fairly low, but they are absolutely quiet, smaller than the Mac Mini, and still does what it was made to do... basic web browsing, HD video streaming, maybe a music server, etc. basic stuff. my Screen Sharing within my LAN isnt verygood. Its very stuttery and screen splintersa lot and doesnt update some things. My router is a 'G' router which should be able to cope with these things.also, the screen res on my Mini is slightly different to my MBP, which i use as the remote screen to control it and therefore the picture isnt as sharp. Can i make it as sharp as if i was looking at MBP stuff?
