Software :: Specs For A Computer Behind The TV?

Jan 26, 2009

We're dropping our Dishnetwork subscription this month in hopes of getting our content from both our AppleTV and also a MacMini, which we hope to purchase soon. I've been looking at a number of MacMini's on EBay and via CraigsList, but I wanted to know what you guys suggest as far as processor and memory for a Mini just to serve video to the TV. My goal is to watch videos from iTunes and Boxee primarily, but also from the web as need be. I'm looking at a number of 1.2Ghz systems with 512 Megs/Ram, and given this computer will only be used for video would this be suffice? I dont' know if we need the 'latest and greatest' or even a dual core system, even though I do want something with OSX 10.5 for sure.

MacBook :: How To Restore Back To Factory Settings

Jun 23, 2014

I have recently purchased a refurbished  macbook (2010). I don't have any software but I need to restore my macbook back to factory settings. I watched a couple videos on how to but there are steps they do that I can't . Like when you shut off your macbook and turn it back on holding the "options" button well I don't have that choice of "recovery hd" There is only 1 icon on my screen when pushing the options button and the only choice I have is the"macintosh hd".There aren't two choices like all the videos show ,the videos show "macintosh hd" and "recovery hd".

I have no idea what's going on with both my Safari and Chrome browsers because I have cable internet and its not slow by any means but my browsers keep crashing (had to force quit out of safari 6 times in 2 minutes) or i see the dreaded beachball for more than five minutes. I don't know what's going on.

OS X :: What Were The Standard Computer Specs From 2000-2009

Nov 7, 2009

standard specs for computers, like for both PC and Mac, like compare a laptop/desktop from 2000 (PC) to a Mac at that time, all the way to 2009, well most of the mac stuff would probably be easy but I want to see compare and contrast stuff sort of thing between the 2, since PC's are admittedly, if you have as much money to buy a mac, have really powerful specs compared to an iMac/Mac Pro, but almost every PC laptop pretty much sucks (except alienware, in terms of power and sexiness macbooks/pro win in every aspect, but are still more expensive).

MacBook Pro :: How To Go Back To 10.5 Without Clean Install

Aug 30, 2009

How can I roll back to 10.5 without having to do a clean install? I ask because SL is truly an "under the hood" update, and until developers take advantage of the improvements, we won't see significant performance improvements. As of right now, plenty of stuff is broken. Cyberduck FTP doesn't work for me. Logitech Control center for my external keyboard/mouse doesn't work. And NTFS-3G is broken because it consumes 30% of CPU unless I eject all NFTS partitions, including the bootcamp partition. I thought I would be fine, I don't have any hacks/customization on my MBP, but those important tools don't work for me yet, so I want to wait a few weeks before I use SL.

PowerPC :: IBook Back To Factory Settings Overnight?

May 24, 2008

I changed the username, passwords, background, settings, name of the harddrive and all that, but left her music and photos on for the time being. Then I turned it off for the night. I remember something popping off before it turned off, and I think it was just saying changes had been made or something like that. And I THOUGHT I had pressed okay to save those was late. But I turn it on this morning and it's practically gone back to basics. EVERYTHING is music, no photos. The settings and background are factory status. iTunes, iPhoto, and iChat are responding like I'd never used them. The only thing that stayed was my user name, the photo, and the name of the hard drive. I've looked through the computer and havent found anything. I couldnt have restored it, could I?

My iTunes music files were stored on an external hard drive. But, unfortunately, the iTunes library file must have been on the laptop hard drive. Now, when I open iTunes music library and playlists are empty, despite my having 120GB of music on the connected hard drive.

Short of dragging and dropping all the music files into the iTunes window, is there any other way of "telling" iTunes where to find my music? I have tried "organize library" and nothing happens.

I want to reinstall OSX for the first time because I mainly want to have a clean system, to get rid of all the files that have not been deleted when I remove some applications. Basically I want all apps removed when reinstalled complete. I've read OSX reinstall its different then windows, but I want to make sure I can do this clean reinstall. I want to know if the other documents and files will remain on my hdd as I don't have an external disc to back up. Also the system/the internet does not run as fast as those in apple store, this may be because of little snitch, hard drive space, or others.
