Mar 19, 2009Okay, I set up Mail 3.5 to use IMAP to get messages from my gmail account. . The downloading went on for several minutes but there are only a few messages in my Inbox. Where are the rest? I don't want them on my computer. I want to access them and get rid of them.
At the bottom of the left hand panel it says USER NAME 905 which I take to mean 905 messages have arrived and are stored somewhere.

Jul 26, 2010I've been using my MacBook Pro for about five months with no problems. It's equiped with VMWare Fusion, and I do most of my work there in windows. Saturday, morning, all of a sudden, I started getting the "application quit unexpectedly message" with nearly every application I tried to open in both platforms (Safari and the entry to VMWare). I haven't added any software/hardware lately, and the computer worked well Friday evening.
Any clues as to how I might resolve the situation from here would be greatly appreciated.

Feb 16, 2012I have a macbook air running OSX Lion 10.7.3. I have installed Messages beta and am using my Apple ID. I also use this apple ID (as well as my mobile number) for iMessages on my iPhone. The app just stays in offline mode, I cannot get it to change to available or any other status. I am therefore unable to send or receive any iMessages on my Mac. I have to uninstall and reinstall the app several times. The status shows as offline in both the menu bar status and the preferences status. All other online service are working.

Jun 30, 2012The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.

Jul 18, 2010I am running mac os X version 10.5.8 and I find that mail will download not all my mail and will not send from any of my mailboxes.
I have set up mail with my googlemail account my mobileme account and my yahoo accounts. all are set up as stp and I have set them up according to all the online help lines. I have had mail set up for many months now, and have been trying to fix this problem for a long time now off and on.
One thing that I have tried is changing the outgoing port number from the default to 587, but still no joy.

Mar 25, 2012After the recent combined update to OS 10.7.3 MAIL does not show images as part of received messages. Instead the messages are littered with square boxes with question marks inside them. This only happens on my MacBook Pro 2.93GHz Intel Core Duo with 4GB ram and not on my iMac running the same system.
I have tried junking preferences etc but no change. I have also made sure that the "Display remote images in HTML messages" is checked in MAIL preferences.

Apr 2, 2012After deleting a message the already read message above becomes selected instead of the unread message below. How do I change this? I have changed the sort by field to assending and decending. I looked at my husbands mail and it does not do this. I do not see any preference options to fix it.To recap, I want to start at the top of my new messages and if I want to keep a message I will go to the next unread one and delete that one without the one I want to keep becomeing the targeted message

Apr 2, 2012I just installed Lion and Mail 5.2. My sent messages aren't showing the addressee or the Cc recipients. I think everything is checked off in View>Message Attributes, although most of the items are grayed out. I tried Classic View from Mail Preferences but it didn't correct this. What setting can I change to be able to see addressees in the Sent Message folder?

Apr 23, 2012Mail is suddenly not displaying certain messages in mailboxes. I can see and select the message in the center pane, but when I click on it to display, I get the "Loading" text and the spinner. This continues without resolution, though sometimes the messages will display after quitting Mail and/or rebuilding the Mailbox.Â
It is not random messages that do this, but always the same ones that refuse to display. But they will display sometimes after a rebuild, so I know they aren't gone. Some have image attachtments, others do not.Â
This just started this morning, following running Disk Utility to repair some HD corruption last night. Prior to that, Mail (and Safari) had been running very slowly for about three weeks. I have already repaired permissions on this drive.

Jun 26, 2012I've been using the Messages Beta for a while now and its been great. I've it installed on two machines. One machine is fine, but on the other it's nearly unusable. The messages window is all over the place. I click on a message in the left hand side and nothing happens. Double click on another and I get a totally different message. I've odd blank messages... And when I quit and reopen different messages show. Now I reinstalled it a few times now, and nothing has any effect... any ideas while I wait until mountain lion?? Ive also ditched all the prefs I can see. Â

Apr 28, 2012I've deleted all the movies from my mac and when I open my system profile it shows I have 42GB of movies somewhere hidden on my macbook. I've tried searching .mov in my spotlight (which yields nothing) and manually searching through the iTunes folder and movies folder (which are empty). Where I can find these hidden movie files -- 42gb is pretty hefty.
