I just recently submitted a service request for my Apple Mighty Mouse, which despite all attempts at cleaning still refuses to scroll down. A hold was put on my account in the amount of $69 for the new mouse, until I return the old of course. Does this mean that Apple is going to replace my mighty wireless mouse with a Magic Mouse? The Mighty "Mice" are no longer available for purchase in the Apple store, not even in the refurbished section. I sure hope that they do...but I was wondering if anyone else has recently sent in their old mouse and what you got back.

Does anyone know of cases that will allow AAA batteries to be the correct size to fit in and be charged in the Apple Battery Charger? I'm thinking something along a case that just extends the metal contacts so it can be charged and then taken out to be used after charging is done. Didn't have any luck doing google searches.

I've got a Macbook Unibody which is still covered under AppleCare, and I discovered that the battery has swollen and became slightly bigger, enough for the battery cover not to close properly. The battery has only 200 cycles and is still on 84% capacity, and I have AppleCare until November 2011, so I thought it was a battery defect and took it to my local Apple reseller. (no Apple stores here yet )
So, after two days I was told that they had checked my Macbook and found the cause for the battery to swell up: there was a lot of dust on what seems the output of the processor disippator (a place I wouldn't be able to reach myself to clean, as I would have to disassemble it), and that dust caused the processor to become hotter (even though I hadn't noticed it) and that too much heat caused the battery to swell up.
But the funny thing is: Apple won't authorize the battery replacement, because they say it is not a battery defect, as it was caused by the processor heating because of the dust that got there by "normal usage" and I couldn't clean by myself. They told me I should have got there by the time I noticed my laptop becoming hotter than before so they could have cleaned it, but now it was just too late.
So I was left with the laptop and the swollen battery again, after I refused for them to charge me for the battery a little bit more than the price that I could get it from the online Apple Store.
any experience with swollen after normal usage batteries? Will the battery swell up more if I keep using it? Do you have any idea on how to convince Apple to give me a new battery? (after all, batteries aren't supposed to swell up, aren't they?)
My mom noticed the other day that the battery on her MacBook (purchased May 2008) was swollen (pics below). Due to this, the battery will no longer lock in place. The trackpad button will also no longer click, as the battery is pushing it up from the inside.
The one year warranty expired 4 months ago, but I was fairly certain that Apple replaced/fixed things that were widespread issues (I know, I know, I told my dad to buy the AppleCare but he never did). Swollen batteries in MacBooks were recently recalled, but apparently this MacBook was not one of the ones recalled.
The folks at Apple told me that it was an old battery issue, meaning the battery was at the end of its life. Normal. That it was simply time to buy a new battery. Now, I don't know much about laptop batteries, but I know for a fact that the swelling isn't due to a dying battery. My mom keeps the laptop plugged into an external monitor nearly all the time, and rarely takes it anywhere. The battery has had 31 total load cycles, standing at 98% of original capacity.
They refused to replace it because the computer is out of warranty.
They recommended buying a new battery before it swells more and causes any more damage. I expressed my concern over the possibility that the battery might explode (an issue common with other swollen batteries). I was told "it is a possibility".
Here's my question. If products produced between months C-D warrant a recall due to a certain issue, and a product produced in month E has the exact same issue, shouldn't it be replaced as well?
I just bought a Macbook pro last october, my battery life was able to last me 7 hours or so for normal usage, with playing movies and games will last 3 to 5 hours. now the batt life have depleted by half the timing? why is that so?
i have charged it full before using ytd, and the laptop subsequently reduced the batt life to 1hr26mins when its still at 97% just because im importing photos from my SD memory card. the battery life continue to deplete massively from 97% to a drop of 65% after using for one hour or so.Can i do an exchange of battery with apple service? is that within warranty?

This is all very well, but opening the cover to get the batteries out again is a complete nightmare. I sometime resort to just dropping the thing until it falls apart!

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

Then recently after replacing the failed HD and re-installing Snow Leopard on my 2007 MBP, the battery panel is telling me "Service Battery"; it's battery health according to coconutBattery is fair for it's age (50%).
the unit (battery) has been replaced previously due to being considered 'under performing'. Is Snow Leopard trying to encurate it's users to replace the battery more frequently? If not, does anyone know why this appears? I'm at lost, since it appears to work fine, if not charging completely.
I'm not sure if this is SL related, but I get the service battery warning when I click on the battery status. iStat reports it at 62% health. Rev B 1.6 just 6months old. Should I bring it to apple or is it just a bug of SL?

So, I randomly clicked on my battery and noticed this "Service Battery" message. I had never seen it before. Obviously, this isn't a good thing. My Mac is 3 and a half years old so I'm not surprised this message poped up. So, I opened Coconut Battery and noticed my current battery capacity is at 65%. Even though charger says it's green, my battery isn't even charging. Should I make an appointment with Apple? My AppleCare expired so i'll have to buy a new battery when the time comes. I'm sure they're not cheap, either.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm sure there are many people who use spare batteries like me. but how do you manage them though? i find it very annoying having to charge them one by one. charging 1 battery takes a few hours, which is almost fine. but when you have a spare battery, it takes twice as much longer to charge them both. not fun. a separate battery charger will help greatly reducing charging time

Anyone know what this means? I haven't noticed anything wrong with the battery (other than gradual decline in capacity). When I click on the message its opens a Mac Help window and says this "Service Battery: The battery isnt functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behavior or the amount of charge it holds. Have your computer checked by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). You can continue to use your battery before it�s checked without harming your computer."
Why has Apple not recalled the batteries in the white macbooks(early 2009) when it is very evident that these batteries have a manufacturing fault? Mine has swollen after 112 recharges but should have lasted 300 recharges before only having 80% capacity after which it will still work, just not as many hours. Because of the excessive cost of Apple batteries and Apple's releuctance to recall defective products my next laptop will be a windows8 machine.

I live about halfway up an extinct volcano about 12 miles north of San Jose Costa Rica. Some months ago, we had a thunderstorm and as I reached to unplug my computers lightening struck about 50 meters from my house. I had an iMac with a 3-Tb external backup drive, a PC laptop and a laser printer on the same power strip.There was a definite surge and the light brighten and then power was lost for a few minutes.When power was restored, the PC and the laser printer seemed to work fine but the iMac was cold.Is is possible that the power supply was fried and not other essential parts? Would it be worthwhile to replace the power supply? Can I, with limited experience and tools do it or need I take it to a technician? My concern is that if the hard-drive is good, there is personal information on it that I don't want to risk.Do I need to replace the hard-drive before taking it for service? How hard is that, can I do it? I have seen videos of the drive replacement on-line.If there is a saving grace with this it is that the Time-Machine backup seems fine although I have only accessed the data through Finder.I replaced the iMac with a Macbook Air with significantly less mass storage and I can't just move files to the Macbook. My problem is that I have an iTunes library of some 10,000 songs on the backup and until recently on a 160 Gb iPod which was old and it crashed.I have replaced the iPod but have not tried to restore the iTunes library to it because of my confusion about how to do that.Can anyone tell me how I might do that or give me any insight into the process?

my battery is no longer keeping a charge and says "need service". It never went through the other stages of battery digression (replace soon, replace now) just straight to service asap with no charge.I had gone away for the weekend and this is all i did the last session i had my computer on.I installed the java update from April 3-4 2012 in the software update and also ran a script search for trojans that i got off a cnn article. Usually i am not a sucker for these scare articles but something urged me to believe in it so i downloaded the two files (looking now they are mac applications) named trojan check 1 and 2. The search cam up null, i sighed relief patted my mac and shut it down. I disconnected the power because i was going to be away. When i cam back last night, a 2 hr charge was burnt up in about 20 mins. I thought maybe it was just running out from the weekend so i powered down charged over night. Still no charge. I did the sleep,reset,power off cycle then reset the smc. Still no charge. Here is my battery info. [code] I am almost positive i am under warranty still. It is a little confusing, basically my credit card doubles any warranty i receive. So my 2 year apple care turnedinto a 4 year. I think. Anyway i need to look into that before i can bring it into a store. But i wanted to get as much info as i could before i take it to a genius.

I bought the 3 year coverage for the Macbook pro.. would it cover the battery being replaced or no? When i read service battery it says the battery isn't functioning normally - it doesn't say replace son or replace now, so im assuming theres something defective with the battery?

A few weeks ago it began randomly turning off. Like I will be doing stuff, have plenty of battery left according to both the software meter and the green lights on the side, then it will click, the screen will turn black and I won't be able to turn it back on.

This morning, I got a "Service Battery" warning with a "Check Battery" message in the Power section of About This Mac. Took my machine to the Genius Bar this evening and it passed the battery diagnostic with 81.1% health.
90 minutes later, I'm sitting outside at Barnes & Noble next to the Apple Store and I get another Service Battery warning. My full capacity charge is down to 3928 from the 4258 mah observed while at the Genius Bar. I carried the machine back to the Genius Bar but it was, unfortunately, closed. They made note of the warning and set an appointment for me to come back tomorrow.
Now (a few hours after my last Genius Bar visit), my charge capacity is 4210 - very slightly above the 80% capacity level needed for the tech to replace my battery. Why is my machine so schizo? Any chance there's a relationship between the machine's temperature and reported charge capacity?
